Freelancer - General Discussion

Small maps are a go to get weapons and equipment for how close the crates are to each other. Hokkaido is also a great place to get stuff quickly.

Where did you find them? This definitely sounds like something modded because I don’t believe these have ever been found in vanilla.

…Or IOI have ninja-added them in a recent update.

Bit of a misunderstanding, I think : I didn’t find them in crates that you break or shoot open like in the Sgail warehouse, but in the randomized loot crates that you can find during missions.

It just seemed unlikely to get so many weapons from them in one mission, so I briefly wondered if a mod had increased the chances on Colorado or something like that .

After more than a dozen months, I decided to push from Prestige 6 to 7 in Hardcore mode, thinking it would somehow speed up my progress. After a few attempts, I concluded it makes absolutely no sense. Even though I previously completed the campaign on Hardcore twice and have enough skill and knowledge to do it again, it’s completely pointless and a waste of time.

With the massively increased difficulty, there is no proportional reward. I would understand a high-risk, high-reward structure, but this feels like content designed for masochists who just want to feel they’ve achieved something by making their lives harder.

Even though:

  • running creates noise

  • there are 2x more cameras

  • every fifth NPC is an Enforcer

  • all Showdown targets are Enforcers

  • a Prestige Objective is mandatory

  • everything is in Alerted Territory

  • any failure wipes the entire campaign along with all funds

  • bullets kill in 2–3 shots, almost like Assassin-level lethality

And yet:

  • you earn the same amount of money

  • cash rewards are identical

  • there’s no increased chance of getting gear from crates

  • essentially, there’s no meaningful reward for the extra effort

There is absolutely no reason - none whatsoever - to play on Hardcore unless you want to waste your time and inflate your ego. The mode is badly designed and, after all these years, clearly needs some kind of overhaul. Progressing through Prestige levels is tedious, adds nothing new, and turns into a pointless grind that doesn’t properly reward the effort invested.

Instead of developing a meaningless co-op mode that nobody really asked for, they could have created a “Freelancer 2.0” - expanding the system with new mechanics, more variability, and meaningful changes to keep the mode engaging over time instead of letting it grow stale.

This is some of mine ideas which could be add some freshnes to this mode:

Freelancer mode needs to get some fresh updates!

Loving the healing herbs a la Resident Evil in the garden!

Don’t think that bookcase in the kitchen makes much sense though. Kinda seems more likely to hold a hidden switch than a wine cooler right next to the refrigerator, in the kitchen, where such things belong.

can you harvest anything from them though? The benefit of the grapes is that you get an item from it.

the last of the 4 new safehouse decorations / customizations is the new OST. It also introduces a new feature where you can skip tracks, although I think it’s only for Patient Zero. I prefer the OST from the Infiltrator (Bruce Lee)

unfortunately they’re just for decoration

Some pretty cool stuff I think!! Love the stuff for the garden area

What does everyone think to the moveable weapon wall? Does everyone prefer it, or would you prefer to have three separate DLC weapon walls to fill in the wall space? :slightly_smiling_face:

The only thing I don’t like about it is literally only the items move - the back of the case doesn’t move to give the illusion that the whole thing is moving up/down. Just feels a little too game-y for my liking. But I’ll cope.

The new Freelance cosmetic from the Patient Zero DLC is its soundtrack is also unlocked for the safe house. I really enjoyed finding the new cosmetics.. I’ve been dying for a new car unlock and thought the staircase was pretty cool too.

I haven’t had a chance to pick up the new items from the Harbinger here. Can someone tell me what the new pistol is: rare, epic or legendary? Where it ranks will determine its usage the next time I play and try it out for the first time.

It’s a Silenced Bartoli that looks like the Samurai Edge do with that information as you please, ultimately the versatility of the pistols depends on the traits that are tied to them which is why Ballers are are always the go to.

you can test it out in the ET cause the Target drops it.

Haven’t bought it in Freelancer yet, but it’s labelled as legendary:

The sickle is epic and the manypass is rare.

Excellent. Exactly what I needed.

By adding a new garden to the Safehouse, I understand it as an expansion of its functionality, not a degradation!!!

It should include three types of herbs:

  • red - for crafting poison

  • blue - for crafting a sedative

  • green - for crafting an emetic

FFS, pointless cosmetic addition

Yeah, would have been a relief to not have to wait for a fish to make sedatives, or look all over the growable areas for where the mushroom is each time, and decide if it’s single usage should go toward an emetic or converted to lethal. This garden could have been a prize. Hell, I’d have even grinded further to unlock it for the convenience of an entire growable poison stash. But nooo.

It would be nice to have, but if an unlock added functionality/convenience, it should not be part of a paid DLC.
