Freelancer - General Discussion

I believe the box was in the ground floor staff room for me the one time I’ve played it.

In more than a couple ways, it does seem like Hardcore mode was put together by a group of developers who brainstormed the question “How can we make all those elite, suit-only, silent assassin only, no load-out, no restart, git gud players shut up?”

What they ended up with is a very difficult mode that doesn’t even attempt to be “balanced”. It’s like everyone is an enforcer, you’re always trespassing, the stakes are super high all the time, and outside of an achievement or extra bragging rights, is just not worth spending more than one attempt on.

I could see the mode being more worthwhile if the rewards were dramatically higher. If there were special elite weapons, suits, or other rewards only available through the mode, that would maybe make it worth it - but as is, it’s an exercise in frustration more than anything.

Congratz!

Yeah not doing Hardcore mode. I like Challenges but that’s a tad bit to frustrating for my taste.

Pretty good adviceses overall.

I would also like to point out that the objective says that you have to open the save, not open and loot it. So one can put a remote explosive next to the safe and detonate it on the other side of the map far away from any alerted guards.

I just had my most perfect showdown yet. I know I posted a lot those last few days, but I’m legitimately proud of how it went, and wanted to share it.
The proper mix of map knowledge and Freelancer/showdown know how.

Got to love Arms Trafficking syndicate.

(Showdown starts at 02:25)

Payout objectives :

  • Explosive kill - proximity
  • Eliminate 3 guards - Assault Rifle
  • Eliminate 3 guards - Shotguns
  • Prestige : neutralize a lookout

Just running anti clock wise around the map, in 6 minutes. A tour of Vinedo Yates.

It was fun! I think I love this game mode.

It’s also my tenth campaign since launch. I think I will stop for the week.

With my controller acting too buggy (unable or very difficult to run) I think I’ll have to put off playing any part of Freelancer. Mainly due to the potential that I could get compromised and in combat. If I have to run and can’t… That’s gunna be my 1st failed campaign. Or I’ll see if I can get another controller working (that has just 1 thing wrong with it) and maybe use that.

Nope. Not using the keyboard. I’d just get confused and not know what I’m doing.

I really like freelancer so far! Haven’t had the time to play it much yet, but it’s a refreshing change so far!
I am curious tho, the long table at the armoy wouldn’t happen to be for the briefcases you can collect, in different locations and from different vendors, would it?

Finished my second Campaign today completing all Side Objectives for the final Showdown. Ended up pocketing around 69,000 Merces cause the game bugged out and gave me two Campaign Completion Bonuses.

Failed another campaign in the dumbest way possible. Here I was dressed as a gardener in Sapienza identifying suspects. I sneak around the right side (as seen from the backyard) and decide to shoot the camera. Psychic guard entered the chat and starts blasting away from behind. I escape via the old ruin to then shoot and take a delivery bloke’s disguise. Quickly I took a seat at the bench to “blend in”. My mom enters the room and we chat about right as the target suddenly starts their escape, without me noticing. So as 47 sits reading the paper on a bench, the target escapes via boat on the other side of the map. What fun we had

Oh, and I bought this unique little thing from a courier

I was honestly happier when I found ICA19 in crate in Miami than when I found Goldballer in dealer’s inventory. Unlike that, I could bring it anywhere without being too worried about losing it. And it’s a great gun. I remember buying ICA DTI and then losing a showdown because it took forever to took out leader, who was inconveniently vomiting in middle of street.

Apparently someone said that’s located inside the derelict Church? Think it’s mastery level 76 when you can remove the shelving unit to access the Church :open_mouth:

Campaign ended after failing a regular mission. Is this a bug? It was the first mission of the second set.
No missions prior were failed.

Oh wait, hmm. It was an alerted territory. Does that count?

Yep that’s a legit fail.

Yellow alerted missions (and they have a yellow icon in the corner next to the map) are campaign enders if failed.
Don’t leave it until the Showdown Mission either or you’ll have an even worse time there…

I really need to be more careful in this mode. I’ve lost many runs to me stupidly rushing it.

I am glad that this mode confirms my banana supremacy. It makes taking down couriers a piece of cake.

I’ve spent more time reading the forum at work than playing the mode, because life, but I may have missed this info: does not every map have a safe?

I actually got to play a bit the night before last and had to blow up a safe in Dubai, and I could have sworn I went over the whole map twice, to no avail.

I really want to play more.

Not every map has a safe. It will tell you in the mission selection screen if it has one or not.

Oh. Yeah.

Nicely done! :+1: I failed it several more times today, I’ll continue my run with two showdowns done tomorrow. Lost some stuff and got some new stuff along the way. Some timed objectives are horrible indeed, but “hide and seek” is very doable, I’d pick that over the SA objectives any time. I don’t think “silent takedown” is that much worse either but wouldn’t do a showdown with that.

That’s not really a ‘variant’, every map has a pool of random NPCs that spawn during non showdown missions (Except Colorado… unless that’s been updated since CTT). You’re loading the exact same file every time you play New York if you’re playing unmodded

True. Hide and Seek is the most doable of them because we pretty much already know where the closets and boxes are and can plan for that more or less in advance. Plus, you can re-use the same hiding spot over and over if you need where the disguise ones are “one and done”.
