Out of interest, does the hat disobey something in the HPP?
Apparently the HPP doesnāt allow you to look damn good!
Thatās one of my least favourite maps as well. I accidentally had an alerted showdown on there the other day and I can definitely say it was an absolute nightmare
Todayās hardcore campaign attempt was not generous with prestige objectives for showdowns.
First one in Dubai almost ended in a disaster when a lookout go triggered (presumably) by a random guard I knocked out earlier to reset the timer (didnāt hide him since I was in a hurry plus other guards heard that and were approaching). It was pure luck that the suspect evacuating through penthouse reception was the correct target and that I didnāt get gunned down by all the guards and assassins cramped in there. Even more stress was added by all exits being occupied by guards escorting out the suspects while the clock was ticking down.
Showdown in Sapienza was also very stressful, but didnāt get as chaotic. Ultimately once I was down to 4 suspects that all have been outside, I decided to rush through it by getting onto the mansion roof and just shooting suspects until I get the correct one.
And when it comes to small aha moments that I somehow didnāt figure out until now: this sniping angle to hit a target inside the Block.
And the panic when I realised briefcases can get stuck on this ladder. I did at least manage to get it out with some pistol shots.
And funnily enough the one thing that ended this campaign withing 16 seconds of starting a mission was me forgetting that I didnāt bring a large item with me.
New York, Time Trial PO, garage starting point. My initial plan was to shoot the camera, then shoot one of the guards and at the end knock out the second one so I can have the disguise to smoothly go through rest of the map. First two steps went well, but then I just stood there with my gun holstered and wondering why right click zooms the camera instead of entering aiming mode because I assumed I was carrying a briefcase.
No, I just donāt like it. I know 47 will wear whatever is necessary for his work, and the tactical outfit itself is canonically what he wears in Colorado, but the hat serves no purpose for that other than making him stand out more than being bald would, so I see no reason why 47 would wear it. Itās one of those things where itās up to an individualās interpretation of 47 whether heād wear it, but I personally donāt want to resort to it, but I do want the tactical gear to wear. Iād like IOI to unlock all map default outfits for at least Freelancer, so that I can do that, as well as others like Whittleton Creek and Haven.
Iām rather surprised by that response, honestly. A hat has numerous functions, all of which would be of benefit to someone outside, as Colorado and a good portion of many other locations is.
- protection from sunburn (particularly important if youāre bald)
- avoiding glare from the sun (particularly important if youāre trying to aim a gun)
- sweat avoidance (sweat in your eyes sucks)
- camouflage (you think the sun doesnāt glint off that head?)
- shielding from shrapnel, hot bullet casings and other falling objects
Iād prefer to wear a hat when in the field, personally.
Then again, most players have accepted a world where a hit man runs around in a bright red tie all the time too, a completely impractical outfit for the job. I suppose they also assume heās sun-proof, glint-proof, and doesnāt sweat.
Not a stretch to guess you may be one of the first or maybe even the first in the entire world to do that GOAT challenge, well done man! You must have played so much these past few weeks!
A bit confusing - it took me about five hours to get from 90 to 91, but now Iām halfway through 91 in about 2 hours.
I really hope Hardcore mode just eliminates the Prestige objectives being mandatory. Stakes are already sky high and having to rely on RNG from an objective that might aswell not being possible is a bummer.
Outside that, I really liked the rest of the Hardcore experience. Master difficulty conditions like very fast reaction times from NPCs or bloody kills ruining disguises. Failing a mission itself and with it the whole campaing is fair, just not when depending on the Prestige objectives.
EDIT: Make it so you can choose a Prestige objective if you want. If you fail it, sure. Fail the Campaing lose everything but because it was your idea of taking the risk, not because the game forces you to do so.
It might just be an issue of the challenge not counting properly when I did it then. I have one fewer syndicate leader killed on the challenges than I should have, but on the flipside I have one more campaign counted than I actually have completed so itās not all bad I guess.
Itās completely practical. 47ās not doing some James Bond bullshit where he rappels down and crawls through air vents and such; heās suppose to look like heās just a guy out walking in the city, maybe going to give a speech to a board of directors meeting. Nobody is gonna expect a guy dressed as he is to be a brutal murderer. What exactly would be appropriate to the job? That shit you see in Splinter Cell and Metal Gear Solid? You donāt need all that when youāre just part of the crowd. Real assassins, real ninja, real spies, they all look more like 47 than that Hollywood nonsense.
What was your strategy for reaching 100?
Well if I get rid of the wife and kids I might have time to-
Oh sorry, thought you were asking me.
Whatever.
Iām at a point with Freelancer where Iām starting to have trouble getting a handle on certain objectives. They arenāt hard, mind you, theyāre just ālongā, so to speak. Like taking out some number of syndicate leaders with crafted poisons. I know how to do that, but with challenges that donāt actually recognize, the fact that for every 18 levels thereās only 4 chances, and that challenge becomes sort of long-ranging. Itās do-able, but will take a while, to be sure.
Personally, Iām contemplating deliberately running only to the first showdown and then terminating the campaign straight after.
But, since Iāll lose all my tools, Iām saving that strategy for after Iāve done all the stuff that benefits from having more targets per map
I think its clear that IO intends for people to be playing this mode a lot for a long period time - otherwise challenges like GOAT/Employee of the Year/Top Dog wouldnāt exist which require a lot of playtime to achieve.
Basically rushing through, complete the objectives and then shoot or explode the rest of the targets while hidden and run, I was using alot of time trial prestige objectives, no silent assassin or concern for non target kills from level 90 it takes about 1 campaign per level, so just doing 1-2 a day, I found organ trafficking contracts to be the best
With the showdowns my strategy was get a disguise and take abit of time looking at the suspects, use the fart briefcase or sieker on them and if it wasnāt them, do it to another, but most the time i got posion target as an objective, so that gives it away, mendoza was the one i avoided for showdowns because they just went to puke over the side
I just failed my hardcore campaign on the last showdown , presumably because I picked up an assassinās pistol. I killed the leader and the SA - No Firearms objective was not displayed as failed. But upon exiting the level I got the failed campaign message.
Damn, that really sucks. Some of these Prestige Objectives need to be made MUCH clearer.
That suuuuuuucks.
Picking up a gun shouldnāt affect it. The game already has a way to know if youāve fired a gun. Blog about this, IOI!
In related news, buying a gun from a supplier did not fail this prestige objective for me (in normal mode).
