Except the full thing isn’t the codename for it, only the “Rocky Dugong” part is.
What part was labeled “codename”, and what part was labeled “actual name?” Otherwise, there’s no reason to think it wasn’t put in as part of the codename to throw people off track.
So I assume you also no longer have any trust in NeocoreGames, Saber Interactive, Ubisoft, Slitherine Games, 34BigThings, Rainbox Studios, Herobeat Games, Sega, Iron Galaxy Studios, Epic Games, Half Mermaid, New Blood Interactive, Square Enix, Techland, Focus Entertainment, Marvel, DC, CD Projekt Red, WB Games, EndNight Games, Scavenger’s Studio, Nintendo, EA, Arkane, Bethesda, Microsoft, Gearbox and Zynga since every one of them have also announced delays in releasing games or add-ons just this year? Does every company that announced a delay in product release earn this much vitriol as well?
What if the changes to the maps to accommodate the Freelancer play style isn’t just some new NPCs; what if it’s changes that we’ve been asking for? Like, what if Whittleton Creek, in Freelancer, is in the middle of Christmas? Or Halloween? What if Hawke’s Bay isn’t full of bodyguards but has a bunch of tourists gathered across the beach during a beach party? What if Colorado is in the middle of winter and we get it as a snow level? It’s not quite what we were asking for, but it would certainly make the maps different from the main campaign to help the feel that Freelancer is different.
It might not be that, dont get your hopes too high but what is more likely is there will be tweaks to the maps that we’ve been asking for (maybe hawkes bay gets a new exit, whittleton creek clue skip, shorter haven viewcones, more mendoza exits, etc.) and then maybe there will also be stuff exclusive to freelancer that add to the maps stuff that will be cool (more civvie npcs in whittleton houses, cameras in dartmoor, a non-hostile area in colorado)
Travis said Y3 is TBD, they are focusing on rolling out Freelancer and still consider it Y2 content, they have nothing planned for Y3 yet (but it doesn’t mean it won’t happen)
IO doesn’t name stuffs to mess with us who look into their files (outside of easter-eggs), especially something like GOTY, they probably just had it planned for it but changed their plans
That’s a possibility, but is way too much work, I don’t expect that at all, so many dialogues have to be added, changes in level design and NPCs for all of the maps, that’s just too much
How do you know? Nobody ever does anything until they do it.
Well because they never did it and it just seems odd to do it for something like GOTY, idk why you’re questioning something like that
Because of logic? Labeling it as GOTY on the mission list (and elsewhere) doesn’t throw anyone off anything, because the actual codename indicated that it was a brand new location anyway.
Anyway… We’re going way off topic so I’m done with this conversation (and also because history shows that once Heisenberg makes their mind up on something, nothing will ever change it).
There’s 175ish messages here so I hope I haven’t repeated any idea with this poll:
- Release date of… November something but you can only do missions on Dubai-Ambrose. Perhaps less features too? You’d get all these features/missions early Y3.
- Jan 26 with all compatible missions/big things, like how it’s going now

as a Steam (and Xbox) player I think Jan 26 wins as I’d love to do a H1-2-3 mission or something chronological across the trilogy on release. Perhaps some similar-scenery mission lists like Sapienza - Miami - Haven - Mendoza could be possible assuming there’s some randomness to the missions in a syndicate.
I so say later in January for a simple reason, Dubai is shot lets face it. Lol
I’m not entirely sure I believe that all WOA maps for Freelancer weren’t the plan from the beginning. It’s definitely a convenient thing to bring up now to make up for the delay.
Oh, I’m sure they were planning all maps but intended to bring more in bits at a time. Or at least Ambrose, which was originally planned to release after, so, who knows.
They probably were. The Freelancer post said:
We’ve decided to push beyond our original scope for launch and include almost all locations from the World of Assassination from day one.
They other locations were probably going to spread out across the patches/roadmaps originally.
Yes, that’s what they write. I’m aware
I don’t think we’ll get a GOTY edition anytime soon, especially when the game isn’t technically completed yet with Freelancer arriving.
To be honest I don’t think we’ll see a GOTY edition, but I might be wrong with Hitman 3 blowing reviews and expectations anyway!!
On the contrary, I’d be surprised if they didn’t do a “GOTY” edition or whatever you want to call it version in the future. Considering how complicated the Hitman: World of Assassination Trilogy can be to an outsider, when it basically consists of 3 games, several paid DLC packs, and a rotation of free maps, I really wouldn’t underestimate the value of doing a GOTY version. A trailer that basically states “Hitman 1, 2, 3, and all the DLC in one package”, I think you’d get a number of buyers who have perhaps been waiting for a “complete” package rather than wading into trying to figure out what an “expansion pass” is.
Anyway, Freelancer, will be nice to see what this looks like as IOI begins to hype it up. I am glad they are taking their time with it, with how much work will be needed considering the sheer number of maps. Hoping in a way actually this could help breath some second life into some of Hitman’s less popular maps actually, or indeed force players to improvise more and get out of their comfort zones. I am very curious.
Since Freelancer seemed to put emphasis on resource management, I wonder if there will be any ammo stash system in place, especially for dart guns. What I mean by that is a system where you’d need to buy darts between missions instead of getting 2 for free each time.
On slightly similiar topic. If I bring keycard hackers and only use one of them, do I get only 2 next mission if I don’t stock up or keep 3/none?
I also wonder if you can keep items found on the map and how could that affect map changes for this mode. I could imagine cheese strats involving going specifically through maps like New York or Ambrose to stock up on chloroforms and frog jars, or gathering a huge wrench pile in the safehouse.
A thing I thought would be cool is having a small chance to have a failed target to reappear in some later campaign as a member/leader of another syndicate. Not necessarily a Shadow of Mordor type target dynamics or other significant gameplay twist, but rather a small easter egg of encountering a familiar face that brings not-so-great memories.
Now that’s an interesting concept.
The more we learn about this mode, the more I think it’s gonna be a while before I’ll be used to it enough to play according to my parameters of perfection, because by the look of it, going into it trying to adhere to the HPP from day one is gonna be an absolute painful bitch.
Why exactly? I don’t remember all the details.
