They were able to accomplish the weather and much more with SR2, judging by the comparison video. The only thing I see that SR 2022 actually does better is graphics. That’s like taking one step forward and then ten steps backwards.
You can’t just copy features of an old game to a new one. Things have to be implemented from the scratch when using a new engine. I guess it is a matter of not-enough-time than devs being unable to do the job.
IMO, if you can’t match or exceed what came before, then you shouldn’t bother making the game in the first place.
So you think they never planned to do these things? Why?
Why does it even need to rain in a game that takes place in one of the driest regions of America?
Like I wouldn’t even think of putting rain in the game, I would add dust storms before I eve thought of adding rain. Rain would also have to be a bitch to program right? Because it isn’t just making a graphic of droplets anymore it would be new lighting, new physics, new models and a bunch of other stuff.
Rain is often a on-or-off kind of thing for surface properties or spaces NPCs are in which alters the behavior. Much less complicated than doors, but yeah with being one of the driest area in America they might just not need rain.
Even IO had trouble making a storm in Haven so clearly it isn’t something you can whip up on a short timeframe
I assume the storm in Haven was not that hard to do but still something that requires time that was needed elsewhere for Hitman before that.
I guess the rain in China was a bigger deal since it alters NPC behavior (using umbrellas) and was worth to delay until there were better reflection systems. They might also hoped to ship it with working raytracing.
i imagine that the new game is more intensive across the board. again, not a dev but i don’t think it’s all that straight forward.
i assume that was what they planned to do doesn’t always work out.
Judging by the link EvilGeniusRo posted, they only compared SR 2022 with SR4, as if that was the only blueprint to go by. Maybe I’m being unfair but this is just my personal preference for any game.
That’s understandable but this is not acceptable to me personally. It’s too big a trade off and it doesn’t bold well for future games.
If I’m not mistaken the engine AoM uses was built from the SR3 CTG engine.
Never played anything after SR3 so I wouldn’t know. 4 is nothing but an Expansion Pack turned into a standalone game with a 4 added in the title. I think that was publisher decision though and not Volition’s choice.
Sure, they have sand storms in the game to fit the setting but why not have the NPCs react to it like they did in previous games when it was raining? Was it because engine limitations also?
Defending or finding excuses for a game that’s borken on release and a disappointment is also defending the idea of developers releasing borken and disappointing games for suckers to buy for $60 / $70 dollars. My honest opinion.
Get mad at Deep Silver & THQ, the publishers.
A lot of complaints I’ve heard seem to be about SR being underbaked and generic – not something you want your shiny new Reboot to be called. Game’s also buggy as heck
It’s pretty likely the dev team was rushed to release the game by a specific date and that’s why it’s probably so bland. They weren’t given the time they needed to create a better experience.
i’m not sure how developers can stop people being disappointed in their game. releasing a disappointing game isn’t even in the same ballpark as releasing a buggy one. the latter is measurable; the former is subjective.
regardless, discussing reasons as to why things are borken (), why certain features may have been left out, or whether they’re valuable to the experience, isn’t necessarily a blind defence of something. it’s taking in the ‘realities’ of development. it isn’t an easy job, especially with the kind of pedantic, highly-strung geek audience most games cater towards. i couldn’t do it.
treating every potential line of reasoning as an excuse/defence of something you think is unjust is equally as exhausting as people blindly defending a game simply because they like it.
“long awaited” fuck off, I’m waiting long for the Witcher 3 update
i’m surprised and not surprised that they’re stopping support for old gen. i understand the limitations of the older systems are holding them back, but this still feels a bit scummy. they released the game on old gen to get the money from the larger install base, fully aware that it would run terribly (or otherwise stratospherically incompetent), and now drop it a year or so later once they got the basics just about functioning.
They say end of the year but these days you can’t be too sure
@Screaming_Meat So many lies when they said that they were happy with the performance on the PS4. Doubt anyone will forget that part anytime soon.
they wasted so much good will on that too.
on top of that, they’ve spoken about this expansion for a little while, with no indication that it would be current gen only. so that’s another move that - given their recent history - i can’t help but frame as a wee bit shady too.
I don’t care, I will consider buying Cyberpunk 2077 only when it costs under 5 dollars with all the expansions. All gamers should do this to send a message.
