Game News Thread

I’ll be honest, I’m looking forward to it. I mean to me, yes, the open world genre has become over saturated, but honestly, I think GTA V still holds up 10 years lately as a quintessential open world title, and I would imagine GTA VI will do the same at pushing things forward. As Swang talks about, to me, the most exciting idea, is that the map is a proper state with various cities and stuff. I adored the map of San Andreas, and how much milage I got out of that game was from the great way it incorporated LA, San Francisco, and Las Vegas, and everything inbetween the cities. There’s a reason why San Andreas became the host of so many urban internet rumours about secrets hiding in the map.

I guess I have some concerns. Considering how much the inevitable online component will be a main stay of this, hopefully the single player doesn’t feel hollowed out in favour of online. I haven’t played RDR2 but considering the mixed stuff I hear about how that game handled mechanics like crafting and hunger, I hope GTA VI doesn’t require too much in that regard. GTA V had the sortof half assed stat system, and honestly, I could take it or leave it. Besides a money economy, and maybe some collectables, I don’t think GTA is a game where I should be bothered with too much upkeep of mechanics.

From the massive leaks that happened awhile ago the gameplay will be more like RDR2 prioritizing realism over mechanics that are more gamey.

It’s unclear how in-depth it will be, but the player will have limited inventory and searching the environments will be detailed. So say goodbye to carrying a whole armory in your back pocket.

So the expectation is Realistic mechanics over Arcady mechanics since Rockstar is always pushing the boundaries for their games.

GTA 6 is gonna have a lot more nuance unlike GTA 5 and because of that you’re either gonna be sold on it from the start or you’ll take issue to it.

Oof. Not sure how I feel about any of that. I guess it depends on how intrusive those gameplay elements are I suppose, or how easy they are to mitigate. Weapon limit, I guess it depends on what they let you carry. If it’s just 2 guns that would be utterly miserable, hopefully it’s something a bit more generous.

Similar to RDR2. 2 Sidearms, 2 Long Arms. Backpacks and duffle bags will exist for looting and weapons can be stored in your vehicles similar to horses in RDR2

Yeah, that doesn’t sound like my jam. I need to give RDR2 a shot at some point to see how I find it, but with GTA, I feel like while I understand it utilises alot of “realistic” aspects, it still has a bit of an arcade quality to it. I’d hate for that quality to be watered down in the pursuit of realism.

Guess we’ll need to wait for them to unveil more info about how all of this works.

Joel is part of the Character Select screen. He’s just locked alongside Tommy and Mel for some reason. (Maybe there are more that are locked from the start, and this is just showing us a more opened-up point in the progression tree.)

Definitely looks like a fun time-sink, though I hope it doesn’t become too repetitive with the Rat King Basement Final Boss. Maybe I’m wrong on that, but they showed the RK multiple times in the trailer and it was in the same environment as the main game.
At least the Super-Stalker Mini Boss seems to have some variety (looked like a fight in the Theater).

Very interested in how different each character plays, seems they all have exclusive access to specific tools and perks. The Raining Molotovs modifier looks neat and the various bonus skins. Ellie has a NASA spacesuit, and some futuristic-looking jumpsuit shown. Abby has something that looks very Mad Max-ish.

Will spend the 10$ on this easily

Meanwhile in GTA1:

don’t worry just game journalism at its best. purposefully forgetting and erasing stuff just so they can get a quick buck and say how much they are for women’s rights.

It will be, however, the first voiced female protagonist in GTA though.

Coincidentally Tommy Vercetti is also the first voiced protagonist, which the game also took place in VC.

First Modern Female Protagonist*

If anyone does want an article about the history of playable women in GTA here is this article. I made sure it was from a major site as well and there are a few other as well. They mostly all say the same thing as this one and the number of non-gaming outlets that are saying she is the first female protagonist (I mean technically true) outnumbers them in the SEO but still.

Finally, we come to GTA Online and GTA ’s most famous and fleshed-out female protagonist yet.

Gaming Journalists moment with their cracked out claim.

We’re about to have one of the most memorable Game Awards live performances I bet!

All the OGOA songs in Alan Wake 2 are bangers. Excited to hear what they’ll play no matter what!

The full section which shows the quote is supposed to be slightly backhanded

EDIT: I made this section less accusatory.

Finally, we come to GTA Online and GTA’s most famous and fleshed-out female protagonist yet. If you’ve played GTA Online, you know that when you start the game you get to choose if you want to be male or female. After that, the game does (mostly) account for your choice, with specific dialogue changes based on your gender.

And while the protagonist of GTA Online doesn’t talk or show much personality, they do sometimes smile, laugh, make choices, and react to events happening around them, which is more than the old-school GTA protags ever managed. So, while it’s a low bar to clear, GTA Online’s female protagonist is also the franchise’s most developed yet.

Most likely Herald of Darkness for obvious reasons.

Oh I fucking knew it! I knew Poets of the Fall were going to be there. Didn’t predict them being billed as the Old Gods of Asgard.

You know, I miss the good ol’ days when the quality of the game itself mattered more than the gender of the protagonist.

Dude we are talking about a game that has a minute and a half trailer to its name as of right now, a game that won’t be out for another two years. Here is a whole bunch of articles from the same site about the game.

Here is an article about the game’s aesthetics, style and rendition of Florida

Here is one expressing concerns about performance on digital only consoles.

And here is one extolling its graphics while also displaying stills from the game’s trailer

“The most Florida ass game ever”. Sorry but that cracked me up.
