I have recently bought and downloaded the game from Steam. When I click play the little launcher screen opens and I hit play. The launcher closes and after some waiting the game closes and steam no longer says it is running. I have verified files and redownloaded the game multiple times on different hard drives but this keeps happening. I have seen some people online say to go into C:\Users%username%\AppData\Local\IO Interactive and delete the HITMAN3 folder however for some reason I do not have the IO Interactive folder and I suspect this could be the issue with my game. How would I fix this? Thank you.
I don’t know about PC version of the game, but you can submit a request to have an IO Interactive staff addressing your issue here:
Open event viewer after the crash and check here for the log. Should say which specific file/process is failing.
Did you already ask ChatGPT or Gemini ?
I suppose if you ask Gemini, it will say that you need to water all your plants on the site, cook pasta and sit in front of your PC in lotus position in order to launch the game
It said ntdll.dll was the faulting module so looking online I don’t think that will help me fix it. Thank you for the suggestion.
You can also try using another PC profile. In any case ask for a refund. You can test with the free edition. Also, the other thing is: are there other games which are problematic ?
So you post just to bash AI, and didn’t even bother to try to make any suggestion for the fellow hitman fan ?
Apologies if any of the following you’ve already tried…
Have you searched in C:\ (or whichever is your storage) for simply “HITMAN3” ?
(ignore drilling down into AppData, etc. for the search; might take some minutes). It may have been renamed when changing from default install settings (or… “IO Interactive” may be an old folder name, before the game’s title became “World of Assassination” rather than “HITMAN3”. I cannot answer this portion as I have had the game installed before the change in title)
Just curious… is (or was) the game installed in same storage drive as Steam and Windows?

Exited every application you can exit before starting game? (no browsers, Discord, OBS, etc.)
(the thread about ntdll.dll on microsoft that I read said the original poster later solved problem by disabling Adobe Acrobat in Chrome so issue could be indirectly related to Steam or Hitman 3) -
Drivers are updated? Steam is updated?
-
Disabled anti-virus programs temporarily before starting / playing?
-
Run game as administrator?
Try to turn off anything within GeForce App / Experience / AMD app so no “FPS counter”, no Ansel, etc. temporarily while you are trouble-shooting the cause.
Best regards.
Thank you for all the suggestions. I tried all everything you suggested and while most didn’t do anything one thing was interesting. I did what you suggested and searched for hitman3 not just in appdata but in all of c:/ and I found that in my Nvidia folder there was a folder called streamline which contained one folder which was hitman3. Inside this folder was a ton of folders named random numbers each one containing a DMP file. I tried deleting the hitman3 folder but everytime I launch the game it comes back. I also tried deleting the streamline folder but it too comes back. Thank you for your help.
Since you can get into the Hitman 3 / WoA launcher, go to Options, and set almost everything to the lowest / worst.
The ones you can probably not change would be the top one (Graphics Processing Unit… unless it’s showing something other than your AMD / Nvidia graphics card; any onboard motherboard processor should be changed to discrete processor), monitor (should be Primary, not multi- / dual-), and resolution (choose whatever is your monitor’s default… do not force into widescreen or multi-monitor).
Also, do not change “Override Memory Safeguards”; that should be left as default (“No”).
For example, if “Display Mode” is at “Exclusive Fullscreen”, try “Windowed”. If already “Windowed”, try “Fullscreen”, etc.
Towards the bottom, you’ll have a choice of Benchmark Scene (Dubai or Dartmoor… doesn’t matter). “Loop Endless” = “Off”. For FPS and stats, your choice.
Then, after changing settings, instead of pressing saving then pressing Play button, return to Options, scroll to bottom of Options and choose “Start Benchmark with current settings” button. This will not start the game, but will test if your computer can handle these minimum settings. It’ll also possibly eliminate some causes of the fail-to-load problem.
(I thought that it had an option to manage superresolution (e.g., DLSS) settings, but apparently I was mistaken, and they’re only available in the in-game Options section… “streamline” is related to superresolution, according to Nvidia’s github).
Hope that the benchmark works, and that by setting everything to lowest, you can get into the game… then carefully increase settings from that baseline.
Best regards.
I changed all those settings and tried different settings but whenever I hit start benchmark i just get a loading symbol next to my pointer and nothing happens. Nothing ever loads. I think I’m just going to refund it and buy something else. It’s clear the game is broken beyond regular issues, the missing IO Interactive folder seems to be a problem unique to me. Thank you for your help.
I understand your desire for a refund, and hope I didn’t delay you past any deadlines.
A shame that we couldn’t solve the problem, let alone find its cause.
Best regards.
