That’s about as serious as it gets on the list of federal crimes, short of unambiguous treason. This. Is. Real. Trump. Is. Fucked.

This is as real as all of the other times people have said “This is real, we are in the endgame now. He is fucked and there is nothing he can do now!”

It isn’t over until he is dead, nothing more than six feet of soil will ever actually stop the rich from doing anything unsavoury.

Yeah, it’s an if they do anything, but if they do, he’s fucked. I can feel it; something is genuinely different this time. This man has just done so many things wrong for so long, decades, and it’s all piled up and exposed now, I truly think that this time, this is the one guy who might actually get the collective boot in the ass. Remains to be see , but if it’s ever gonna happen, I think this is gonna be the time.

His agent has given an update on Rushdie’s condition.

“Salman will likely lose one eye; the nerves in his arm were severed; and his liver was stabbed and damaged,” his agent, Andrew Wylie said.

Throwing themselves in front of the car seems less diabolical and not (or at least less) criminal.

True but this was done in response to a video showing a Tesla hitting a child dummy allegedly while in its FSD mode. So they want to use a real kid with a car they want to guarantee is in FSD mode. This is basically publicity stunt but everyone involved is stupid.

Troy: Are you proposing terrorism?
Ricky: Not but actually I mean yes and it is Stochastic terrorism which is the best kind of terrorism.

If I recall correctly, a religious organization offered ~$2.3 million on top of that for Rushdie’s assassination.

It can still mean something. Everything that’s meant to be good can be abused, and this is no different. People had a lower opinion of whistleblowers at that time, but so much had changed in that time. Now, the majority of people like whistleblowers die not how much corruption and criminality has increased, and now it’s time to use things like this Act in the way they were meant to be used.

Christ’s sake, please don’t #bothsides this now.

I doubt codifying Roe vs Wade would be that simple or efficient, Trump could just override it after he became President. Back then, Obama was focused on getting Obamacare through.

as the old saying goes: it’s not a bug, it’s a feature.

Looking extremely likely Liz Truss will win the leadership election. And it worries me because Truss’s idea for strengthening the Union is, apparently, saying that the Scottish, Welsh, and Northern Irish devolved governments suck and the Westminster government is the only one that will help the people. Very thinly veiled antagonism towards devolution, not to mention all the Scots, Welsh, and Northern Irish who elected these governments to begin with.

“Since we all suck individually the least we can do is all suck together” is a very daring way of handling the topic of devolution.

The Democrats maybe had enough votes in the Senate to pass abortion rights during the first two years of Bill Clinton’s presidency (103rd US Congress). They had 57 votes. They would have needed party unity as well as 3 republicans to cross the aisle. So while I say maybe it’s a slim maybe.

For just a half year ish Obama had 60 if you count the two independents that caucus with democrats (Bernie Sanders for example is not technically a Democrat, but most people count him as one). This would have been Sept 2009 to Feb 2010 in the 111th Congress. They could have maybe done it then if they went fast.

Pretending the Dems got that passed…
Trump did not have 60 GOP Senators during his first two years (115th Congress), he only had 52, so undoing any right to abortion laws would have been even more difficult than getting them passed under Clinton.

Of course those numbers are based on what actually happened in those elections and not taking into account any of the many many “what ifs” presented by such a conversation.

*edited to add the info on 111th congress. I knew Obama had 60 at one point but I couldn’t remember exactly when.
