Hello There! Allow me to introduce myself. - Arti

Hi everyone,

I’m Artjom, or just Arti, and I’ve recently joined IO as the “Player Engagement Specialist”. I just wanted to say hi before getting stuck into threads and discussions.

I’ve been working in the game industry my whole career. I’ve also spent most of my personal time in the virtual worlds of lots of video games. When I was younger, I wanted to be a games journalist, so naturally I had to play every new game and well-known classic (not really, but it was a good excuse!). Well, you know what they say – life’s full of surprises! I may not have become the next Jason Schreier, but I’ve had a couple of jobs where I learnt a lot about communications and marketing in gaming. That’s basically how I ended up in my current role. The “new guy” at IO.

So, what am I supposed to do now?
One thing I’m already able to tell you is that weekly streams will be making a comeback on our HITMAN Twitch channel. We’ll work out what kind of content you’d like to see together over the next few weeks, but please feel free to let me know what you’d be interested in.

I’m still finishing my onboarding, since I started just last week, but I’ll be around on Discord & the Hitman Forum today to answer questions and chat about memes and games. See it as a scuffed version of an AMA. So, whatever it is: Just @ me and ask!

I’m looking to earn the title of Agent one day and wear the iconic red tie together with you.

Looking forward to spending time with you!
Arti

tl;dr: Hi! I’m Arti, and I’ll be hanging around, answering questions as best as I can, and make sure we have some fun with weekly streams and other content.

Welcome @IOI_Artjoms ! Nice to know someone from IOI is around here again.

That’s great news!
So here’s the question(s): Have you played Hitman? What’s your favorite game in the franchise? What other games do you play?

Welcome in Arti!
I hope you have a great time at IOI and I hope you can follow your passion for video games there. Welcome to Hitman Forum.

Since I’m not really familiar with that job, I’d like to know what your responsibilities as a Player Engagement Specialist entail exactly. How does it differ from other jobs like Social Media Manager, Content Creator or Community Manager?

I have! I played Hitman: Absolution, when it came out and really enjoyed it although I don’t remember much tbf. Then I went back to try the first one Codename 47, but for some reason it didn’t stick. You know how it is: Sometimes you are mid-game and don’t play for a while due to RL stuff and then you never go back.

Besides that I play pretty much every genre besides horror and racing games. Love Roguelikes, RPGs and Shooters, but not really focused on one specific genre. I completed Dispatch this week for example (loved it!). Besides that in my current rotation are CS2, League of Legends, Ghost of Yotei, CloverPit and Brotato….I play too much :DD

I totally agree with you, that the title of Player Engagement Specialist is a mouthful and I never heard of this job before joining IO tbh. I’ll try to keep it blunt: Basically I am getting paid for being a gamer, playing Hitman on stream, writing patchnotes and relaying all feedback from the community, while doing content via streams and videos. I would say it is a mix of everything you’ve mentioned without being limited to one of the specific sectors. Jack of all trades so to say.

Welcome.
So it’s another Absolution fan here, nice to know.
Would you believe, they just shitting this game around when it’s a great one engaging people into the series!

I am sorta used to give love to hated entries in game franchises. Dark Souls 2 for example was my very first Dark Souls and it will always have a place in my heart, but it gets “shitted” on constantly. Same for Dragon Age 2.

Hello! It is really amazing to see a new face here! :pink_heart:

I love your little banner you’ve made with and it really does perfectly match the Hitman theme. (i’ve been looking for a high res version of that background by the way - maybe you have it?)

I’ve been really enjoying modding and hanging out on the forum for over a year and this year I have made so many friends doing so. :cherry_blossom:

Here is some feedback:

I do feel like IO itself is a big negative force for me - they are participating in more and more anti consumer practices and there has been a large lack in community communication. I even left for a while and I won’t be buying more stuff from IO, even though Hitman is my fav game. (and that is super sad to say as you could imagine)

Communication:
For example, there isn’t a place to ask questions and get answers, along with there being little public communications from IOnions. In the past I’ve tried to get some questions together and send them to Samir, and he has answered them in our messages, but this isn’t ideal. I do hope he is managing okay in his sick leave. :pink_heart:

Business practices (more serious and less out of your control) :
IO like to use the fear of missing out to the maximum and make everything always online and limited time, now also including the new dlc availability, just to name one problem. Obviously it comes down from the top with Hakan (the CEO) being all in on live service and is planning the same with 007, but anything you could do to be more community first would be amazing. For example the VR team has done wonders this year - there have been failed attempts at VR before, but this time they really put a lot of effort in and were great at fixing things and adding QOL for long after launch, and even adding more features like Freelancer support recently.

There have also been a lot of incredibly immoral collaborations which you may be aware of and have really deeply upset me. People like MrGregor who has a case against him SAing a woman were ongoing at the time of his dlc release and the mission was rerun whilst the case was in court and had to be removed. They then followed this up with JCVD who is pro Putin/ Trump and incredibly anti LGBTQIA+, and he is still in the game. Hitman is not available in Russia and has a diversity statement first thing as you load up the game. They then collaborated with a mobile game company with Hitman things being available through essentially gambling hundreds of $/£. That mobile game also has notoriously bad and sometimes misogynistic adverts. There is a big lack of care a plain negligence on the research team. IOI also lost tens of millions publishing Mindseye, a game which had obvious problems with an abusive CEO. There really needs to be more checks and I advocate for some apology or at least acknowledgment of this.

Social Media:
I wish these places were more natural and unique, and shared more community goings on, like they used to; the accounts have become extremely formulaic with the Hitman account fully focused on posts about limited time missions, all with practically copy and paste vocab and emoji spam. On the 007 side all there has been is repackaging of trailers into low quality gifs spread evenly between the trailers’ releases.

Streams:
There have been some really nice high effort ones for events like the 25th franchise anniversary with interviews and more. There were also some laid back gameplay streams from Samir which were nice, and would also be a good opportunity to answer questions if those sort of streams were to come back. Another thing we would love is more sharing of concept art: people absolutely looove that sort of thing!

I hope you have a nice time on the team! :pink_heart:
Edit: I hope I wasn’t too mean!

Why not every now and then see what the mod community are up to? Admittedly I am biased as a mod creator myself. But there’s a lot of talent there with custom items and outfits and even whole missions.

Welcome on board, Artjom! :corky_47:

There are a lot of constructive feedbacks on this forum.
Members are very reactive and won’t hesitate to @ you.

You’re an agent as soon as you launch the game, but will you be a silent assassin? :elusive_target_dark:
Wish you a good time at IOI. :clinking_beer_mugs:

Don’t worry! I don’t perceive your feedback as mean at all. These are your feelings and you should voice them like that (of course withouth becoming disrespectful). So all good on my side.

Obviously there is a lot of history, which is only natural with the franchise being 25 years old and also WOA is already out for a couple of years. A lot to unpack here and I promise I will try to get behind everything and read up on a lot of past community/communication efforts throughout my time. Currently I am sort of in a “listening” mode so this really helps me to get a feeling were we are at right now. At the same time I am sort of learning about internal processes to understand where hickups happen, which could lead to those situations.

Bear with me, that I don’t have an answer to all the topics right now, but at least the Social Media, Communications and Stream parts are things I can and will impact personally. I want to establish weekly streams exactly for that. To have a regular channel, where I can hear concerns, wishes and feedback directly. The other stuff is for sure something I will bring up and make known. In the end IO onboarded me to get a better understanding of the community and I vouch, that I will try to be the communication channel for that. Even if it gets uncomfortable.

Edit: Ah! Completely forgot about the asset you asked for. Was it the Cherry blossom one you are looking for or the one I used for my banner?

That sounds great tbh. Like we could have some of the streams to be “Hitman Mod Deepdives”. I’ll write it down!

Oh, I like you.

I have been burned quite a lot recently with IOI’s actions (or lack thereof), so to hear someone take the initiative to try and communicate more on a regular and consistent basis is mighty satisfying to hear.

I never thought I’d see the day…an official modding showcase for Hitman (Just gonna leave this here…)

Consider my interest in Hitman piqued again.

There has never been a Mod showcase? :o I will need to ask the team why this has never been the case. Hopefully it is nothing related to legal issues and I’ve immediately overpromised.

Very short answer: IO sort of takes a blind eye approach. Their only real request when asked back in 2021 was to not mess with servers or leak content in public channels (which are very reasonable).

If memory serves, only the Hitmaps Roulette mod, which is a server replacement, has gotten any sort of voiced official approval, mostly because of the Roulette Rivals livestreams.

I’m sure there’s some legal mumbo jumbo that you’ll get told because modding is in this weird grey area, but we’ve also been told we’d be getting a modding policy four years ago and nothing has come of it. So you can sort of understand the mixed messaging.

If you do get told off/ shouted down when suggesting these streams by the higher ups, then I wouldn’t be surprised (and do not feel bad for overpromising this!). But there is just a wealth of content made by modders such as myself, Kevin Rudd, Anthony Fuller, Notex and so many more people, that it seems weird not to acknowledge such hard work.

Oh yeah, while I’m here, I’m a massive Hitman nerd and I do frequently edit both the Hitman Wiki and the TVTropes page for Hitman 3 (and other Hitman-adjacent games). If you have any questions about the games, the WOA lore, or other obscure bits about the game do feel free to ask/ consult those places =)

Hello there, @IOI_Artjoms. Already, you impress me. You’re jumping right in, telling us who you are, showing us what I assume is your face in your avatar, laying out what you’re here for and what you’d like to do. This is very welcome.

That being said, I must be cautiously optimistic and remain a bit skeptical, simply by virtue of the fact that actions and, shall we say, relevant communication and updates from IOI have been somewhat scarce over the past few years. While I’m liking what I’m reading here, to put it into Hitman terms, I certainly hope that this shiny Silverballer actually has bullets.
