I can´t shake the feeling that the main Sapienza and Marrakesh missions still do a better job at utilizing the street areas than Chongqing does. I absolutely agree that both bonus missions do a fantastic job at highlighting those areas (and they´re great missions which I´m glad we got), but even in the main missions I feel that there´s quite a bit of utility to them and things to discover/use there. Just fun to explore and roam around nonetheless. Chongqing on the other hand just feels… desolate in a way (and not just for the lack of NPCs). It´s also a lot smaller (or at least feels like it), so maybe that´s why it isn´t so striking like the other two maps. I really need a bonus mission that scraps all the ICA personnel and the facility and gives us a hit focused on the streets area.
Also, I absolutely agree that the H2 and H3 missions do an overall better job at utilizing space, thereby not making bonus missions feel that necessary (Mumbai is a stellar example here), but Chongqing is probably the most apparent exception (well, that and Hawke´s Bay).
You know… That would actually be pretty cool… Throw in a hunting event where Amos entertains members of the Al Ghazali family in an effort to secure lucrative drilling contracts in the Gulf and I´m sold.
Fair point… As much as I want a Chongqing bonus mission, I really adore the visual style and atmosphere they went for (same for Dartmoor), and am wondering how much I´d be acceptive of a different look for these maps (or, on the other hand, how would I feel if the bonus missions utilized the very same one…).
Sigh I wish…
A Chinese New Year celebration would be cool, though I´m wondering whether it wouldn´t feel too much like a rehash of Absolution (not that I wouldn´t like it of course). PS: Godfather 3 also had a parade kill…
“Is that a display of affection, 47? Whatever next? Making out at the movies?”
You mean like how they teased us with a picture of snowy mountains and then threw a linear train level at us? Yeah, classic…
The only way I´m accepting SAs is if they reclassify all the ETs as SAs and make them permanently available as part of that mode.
It might sound like mocking, but I´d like to think of it as Diana´s way of saying what she wants. After all, she had him stab a man together in cold blood on their first “date”…
Like many have point out, IOI may do a swerve and actually announce some new maps for H3 given the fact it’s blown critics away and after just a week of release they made their development costs back.
Kane and Lynch 1 and 2 have been awesome, and insert “Im sick of pretending they arent” meme here. Seriously, why the hate, as if there are so many Coop Thrid Person shooters that did a better job, better story, and better gameplay. Especially today.
This so much. But I have this feeling overall, in all the maps. Hitman 2 didnt feel like a DLC to Hitman 1, Hitman 3 tho feels like six times New York/Haven. Also in size…
Same here. Id also much rather would see a bonus mission in Hitman 2 maps, than 3. There isnt much you can do to change these missions, its the same reason we didnt got a paris bonus mission, while paris got the most content back then. (ETs, escalations, etc). Because just like Hitman 3, its way to dense and designed to represent one single theme.
I have fun with the train, I enjoy it, but Im really dissapointed that its the last mission, and we havent had another snow mission in the game.
It’s bound to be that way when it’s the same gameplay mechanics (more or less) for the 3rd time around. Let’s also not forget that 2 added the sniper briefcase which changed the game more than any other gameplay change. That helps it feel different. IO did the same thing between H2SA and Contracts.
Im only talking about the maps. Hitman 1 had a really solid roster of maps, with each map bringing something new to the table more or less. Hitman 2 gave us massive maps with new things like the race in miami, or the random-target system in Mumbai. There was enough on the table to not feel like a DLC. If Hitman 3s map would be as massive and rich of different areas and things to discover and see, Im sure it would feel alot better.
Im not saying they are bad, I enjoyed them. Its just that there isnt a big, massive map in there to rival the other games mamoths, Sapienza/Marrakesh and Santa Fortuna/Mumbai.
Berlin ICA hunting is new, thats sure, and so is Romania. Berlin is probably the biggest map overall of Hitman 3.
The Datacore isnt as new tho, its just like Sapienza, and Whittleton, or Dartmoor. Go to X and collect/destroy/interact.
I mean, lots of people had been furious about Hawkes Bay being one of the six locations while being so small. Now they did it again, but we dont have another Santa Fortuna, Mumbai, and two more DLC locations to wait for.
All in all it doesnt feel as “bombastic” as Hitman 2 felt, which is sad, because Hitman 3 is supposed to be the last one for quite a while.
Id absolutely love if they would do an additional location with a mission called “The Last One” and just go nuts on it, massive and big.
Game Director Mattias Engström of Hitman 3 said that large complicated maps like Mumbai are the least played of Hitman 2 maps, so IOI purposely made the kind of maps that the average player would prefer. The necessarily online WOA trilogy allowed IOI to gather the player data from Hitman 1 and Hitman 2 to know exactly what kind of maps and puzzles would please the average player in Hitman 3. That is what they delivered and Hitman 3 had record sales. If you play Hitman a lot then Marrakesh and Mumbai grows on you.
Yet they’re also the highest rated in the tier rankings, with Miami/Sapienza being seen as S tier. Stats aren’t everything, and also i’ve replayed the H3 maps far less than i did any large map, just more individual runs, faaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrr less time played.
Miami and Sapienza aren’t S tier because theyre big, they’re S tier because they use their space well. Mumbai, Santa Fortuna and Isle of Sgail were also big and people don’t play them nearly as much as New York and Paris. So it was putting too much into the game for less gain.
In my ears that makes it even worse then. Knowing that little maps are more replayed, and doing smaller maps by choice, why didnt they do more maps then?
The argument you make sounds like “We listend to the players and knew, only 5 of the Battlefield maps from the 11 the game launched with are played. So now the game only has 5”
Or “They only play urban maps, so instead of 5 urban maps, we now have 11”
On the one hand Chongqing is pretty small. On the other hand we already had two huge city maps with Mumbai and Sapienza. So, I don’t mind that Chongqing is only a few buildings and the ICA facility.
Same reason why I don’t want a hotel map in every single Hitman game. It get’s stale after a while.
The hotel concept should be changed to holiday/vacation map. Haven Island proved itself to be what Bangkok never was. A bungalow park with luxury cottages would be a good next step. But that’s gonna take a while right
I love Haven Island but if you’re gonna switch a tropical map to nighttime and maybe do a hurricane or beach party or something then Miami is like… right there, and much better.
