No one expected the game to be that borken at launch and after all the hype it generated, yeah, over a million concurrent players seemed about right. Those numbers quickly went down after people started having issues.
It was a brand new game, H3 is one year old, they simply couldn’t have it priced at $50 for base game and $90 with all the content…
Hard to say, this problem technically only popped up in the last few hours (because it was stuck on a queuing loop before that) so they might not be aware yet.
IO’s own support page says you should be able to import Hitman 1 and 2 locations into the starter pack. It’s in the “Already played HITMAN 1 and 2?” section here: https://ioisupport.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/360019156697-HITMAN-3-Free-Starter-Pack-Overview
That and the fact all of the H3 levels are setup as individual DLC that’s then sold to you as part of a bundle. It makes me think they set it up so a free edition that doesn’t grant any levels could be sold but somehow, someone missed a memo and a demo was made instead. I’ve sent in a support ticket about it anyway.
Played all Hitman games. Remember when IOI was on the brink of closing down? Got that supporter pack back then, so this does not die. 3 only on Epic? Can wait a year. Full premium price on steam with a price structure for which there are no words? Really not a nice move.
If you’ve connected to the servers previously, a copy of your profile is saved locally so that if you cannot connect next time, it’s used and the items will appear in your inventory. It’s used only for inventory purposes, challenges and mastery aren’t included.
That was only the case for the first few months of Hitman 2016. Right now any item you have unlocked online will be able to be used offline. @thrison regarding mastery I’d like to point out that you do keep all the starting locations you have unlocked online when playing offline as well.
so i launched the hitman 3 demo this morning. i got into online mode easily with no queue. but i could not access any of my hitman 1+2 content, so i exited.
then i launched the hitman 3 demo again tonight, to see if it correctly updated what content i have, and then i got placed in a queue.
this is the most disastrous launch i’ve ever seen from IOI. such trash servers
Seems like the main issues with the Steam Store page for H3 (apart from regional pricing) is too many things on the front page. There’s just too many bundles, and things that should overlap don’t.
– There’s the Standard,
– Deluxe, and
– Trilogy bundles. Neat. (Though the Trilogy bundle only includes base games and not deluxe/Gold)
– But also on the page is the “Premium DLC Bundle” that doesn’t include 7DS (I get that it would raise the price by 30$, but it’s still a piece missing)
– There’s also the seperate “7DS Collection” bundle that – along with a huge and repetitive list of content "Hitman 3: Seven Deadly Sins Act 1: Greed, “” Act 2: Pride, “” Act 3: Sloth, etc…) just includes the 7DS DLCs.
– And to top it off: The Hitman 3 Access Pass: Hitman 2 Gold ‘bundle’ which just bundles the base H2 Access Pass and Expansion Access Passes. No Base Game. Why is this bundle a thing?
I guess Steam just doesn’t have an easy way to show off bundles separate from the main game’s page, but it’s just too much on one storefront.
I also find it really weird there’s a “Hitman 1 GOTY Upgrade DLC” that only gets you access to the GOTY Content of Season 1. I thought they did away with that and had everyone buy or redeem the GOTY Version of Hitman 1, to simplify things a bit? But no, once again there’s a GOTY version and GOTY Upgrade-only version. Really weird overall. Ugh.
any competent PR team would immediately apologize for the screwed up pricing and the dogshit servers and let the players know that they are fixing it right away. but instead they say “we’re listening”
