HITMAN VR (Discussion)

It’s a sense of presence. The feeling that you can go anywhere and interact with anything (even if not possible). The Gran Turismo VR mode on PSVR2 is a great example – you feel like you’re actually sitting in a car. You’re tempted to reach out and adjust the mirrors by hand. Hard to understand until you’ve experienced it.

Not only that, I often get a feeling of the sun hitting my skin even tho I’m sitting in a dim room with a headset on lol. Gran Turismo in psvr2 is amazing.

I’ve just bought myself PSVR, so will pick up Hitman in order to play it. I do have a question though going in: I have heard it supports the older missions, but also not all content can be played. But I’ve also heard some other things outside of the campaign missions can.

Can someone clarify exactly what content can be played in VR? Contracts? Escalactions? Freelancer? ETA? Etc?

hi do you know how to fix HMD not found because i tried letting unknown sources
and didn’t work

according to Morty7’s postings about VR here, I think escalations are available (or at least some of them) and ETs are also able to be played.

So… any impressions from folks here yet?

PSVR2 players are eating this up! :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

Eye-tracking as a game mechanic to throw is stellar. And it seems it works well, nice!
Not enough games use the eye tracking for more than just foveated rendering.

Based on what little of the previews I read, there’s two things I feel I should mention about this VR release not really seen yet:

  • Climbing in VR is in third person. I think you just use the Move stick to climb.
  • When asked if this is coming to other platforms, IO gave a vague “we arent sure yet”
So… probably an Exclusivity deal they can’t talk about!

Okay, so I probably spent like an hour just fiddling around with the VR settings, the tutorial, exploring the menus, gushing over the quality of the NPCs and world, being able to see details and text up-close… gosh, just in vibes alone, this is damn cool.

Just very small first impressions so far, I’ll probably play a little bit tomorrow, maybe stream Paris, we’ll see if time permits. Some of it is really cool, some of it still feels lacking, but overall it’s a new unique very different way to explore and interact with HITMAN WOA.
Anyway, mainly I want to mention:

This is the content you CAN access in VR for the Hitman PSVR2 update… (unsure if this also applies to the other VR versions):

  • All Campaign Main Missions (Hitman 1 - 3, from the opening movement tutorial Arrival all the way up to Untouchable)
  • All Elusive Target Arcade sets (this includes the Undying’s, and probably also The Drop, Splitter and Disruptor, but I don’t own them)
  • All Live/Timed Elusive Targets
  • Contracts Mode (did not test/look for alternate map missions)
  • The Seven Deadly Sins Pack escalations
  • All Hitman 3 Escalations – including the Deluxe Escalations!
  • All ‘Seasonal Content’ (Holiday Hoarders, Hokkaido Snow Festival, Mills Reverie, Dartmoor Garden Show, Berlin Egg Hunt)

Honestly, pretty surprised at how much I actually was able to access based on how the menu points it out (you can see what content CAN and can NOT if it has a [VR] tag on the mission, or a big {X} tag instead… (You CAN play X-marked content, but it’ll only display normally through a flat virtual screen.)

Stuff like the Deluxe Escalations and Seasonal Content is pretty significant, since those are usually full alternate map layouts and missions – especially regarding Mills Reverie and Hokkaido Snow Fest – since no other alternate legacy content can be played.

This means you can’t access stuff like
All Hitman 1 and 2 escalations
Hitman 1 Bonus Missions (Sapienza Night/Dusk, Marrakesh Night)
Sarajevo Six Missions
Patient Zero Missions
Hitman 2 Special Assignments
Sniper Assassin Game Mode
or Freelancer…

Various photos browsing the menu (and being like YAY!! when I see a VR tag)

Details

But… and this is a big but since I don’t know specifically how converting Flat maps into VR works, but… given the content already in place, and that this is technically the most advanced, faithful, non-awkward VR port of Hitman so far, I really hope that IOI can update VR in the future, now that they finally got it right, to include more of that legacy content like Bonus Missions or by divine providence, Freelancer in VR…

Please, IOI, it would mean the world (of assassination)… :face_holding_back_tears: :growing_heart:

From what I’ve seen, it’s pretty impressive and they’ve got a lot of stuff right this time. I am on PC though, and I’m not gonna get my hands on this.

I’m getting frustrated with YouTube streamers because non of them know (or care) about Hitman or they’re in it for the “hur hur I’m dragging the body onto the toilet”.

Anybody know of a streamer who knows the game and is playing through the story more role play-like, cool kills and all?

Watch me do VR Hitman, cant see chat ugh stupid PS. Also im in a Discord chat, but they cant be heard or broadcast. So if it sounds like im talking to voices in my head its because yes I am lol

Still… just streaming VR because I can?! YAY

I’m live on Twitch, come hang out!

Edit: I’m done. I checked out the ICA Final Test and a bit of Paris for an hour. Then got motion sick so I had to turn off.
But gosh yeah VR is cool, seeing NPCs up close is cool! (Though blending in crowds with other NPCs who just stare at you is pretty creepy not gonna lie)
Some jank as expected, some negatives like Climbing and Blending being third person which really pulls you out of the experience (pun kinda intended), but overall neat! I can see myself putting in some time to finish each campaign mission for sure

Just now discovered that PC VR is no more buyable and not listed on Steam, only accessible via google search.
Is it just me, or IOI discontinued this feature?

Wdym? I see VR plastered across every version with the extra text about “Does not include VR or Freelancer modes” for 2 cheapest options. And it was playable two days ago for me. I have EGS version, but it is no different to Steam one. If you mean like a DLC page in Steam, it was never buyable by itself, only in a bundle with the full Hitman 3. I think the way it’s displayed in store was changed when they switched to naming it WOA. But in that term, yes, it is not purchasable even in bundle, but that was just a placeholder to distinct versions with VR, not an actual downloadable DLC,

But that also affected all the small per-level DLCs as well. You now buy a version of the game, not the base game + DLCs bundle. I think every level, like Mendoza or Berlin, was displayed as DLC. So they got rid of all of it and now we have this “beautiful” table and endless amount of Reddit users asking which version to buy. These DLCs are actually still bundled and can be seen in Steam library. And you can even install/uninstall them one by one, but VR one, bonus missions and cosmetics are just placeholders and would work no matter if they installed

Actually, on the note of discussing it, I found that PC VR version was silently updated and somewhat fixed. That might be related to me using my new beefy PC instead of a laptop, but I doubt that, since it was present on my previous PC and was confirmed by others. There was one mention in patch note (Undying one if I recall correctly) about fixing VR training mission. But from what I’ve seen, one of my main issues with it – strangling people with bare hands, was fixed. Previously it would launch people with some rocket power upwards, making them stuck in the ceiling textures. That was a big problem, because using melee weapons is unreliable, you often just kick people and alert them. Throwing works somewhat decent, but it’s loud. So now you can silently strangle them without any issues. And so it was a decent experience. Yes, all interactions but doors are through button prompt, placing stuff in inventory (esp. while crouching) is barely manageable and body is still locked in one point, often requiring you to reset position even if you’re quite stationary. But that still was pretty good experience. And I love blending in and climbing from first person, even if it’s janky – features that were removed from PSVR2 version. I get why blending in was removed (6DOF), but proper VR climbing would be possible with a little extra effort

Responding to myself, I found a YouTuber who seemingly is playing through the whole VR-game in a cool way. For anyone interested.

EDIT: I don’t know if anyone answered this yet, but how do you get dual silverballers on a mission? Do you have to use the standard and the mkII in a briefcase/stash? Or is there a special VR way to just bring both?

PCVR is free, it comes with Standard Edition (and above).

As far as I can tell, you kind of have to brute force it with probably the OG Silverballer in your Inventory then the MK2 Silverballer in a briefcase.

I didn’t look into it too much, but the Planning screen doesn’t have any VR specific “toggle double pistols” to bring. The Tutorial is like the only place that has two identical Silverballers to wield I think…

Hold up, why is removing First Person Blending good in your opinion?

I don’t have a good frame of reference other than videos, but it does kind of disappoint me to see all the improvements this VR version makes, while confusingly making other changes that sacrifice the VR immersion.

For Blending, I think it really kills the immersion when you walk into a public area, want to roleplay in VR a bit and eavesdrop on a conversation at the bar, grabbing a drink like you would in the main game.
But walking up to the bar, interacting with the wine glass, and then being shown 47’s back? Or just, suddenly being suspended 6 feet in the air as 47 does his thing (this happens in the Yacht level at the personal bar), it’s such a disconnect.

The climbing, I guess, is understandable. I’m sure when it comes to Slidling on the sides of buildings, it would be really awkward to have your head so close to the wall, and it probably had clipping issues (or in VR, the screen goes black if you collide with physical objects)
The Only improvement I’d love to see for climbing is having the camera follow 47 automatically. Cause right now you have to manually move the camera to “reset it” along the path you’re climbing. Look at this: it’s awkward to have to keep an eye on 47, an eye on enemies spotting you from below by turning your head, and also catching up tp 47 by rotating the camera.

Hold up, why is removing First Person Blending good in your opinion?

I can’t imagine how it seamlessly work with 6DOF and seeing your full body. They have to lock you in position, which is immersion breaking and looks weird. If you’ve played the latest Batman on Quest, they have a couple of cutscenes where they lock you into a chair, and they feel and look weird if you start to move. It works quite nice in Quest version of Hitman VR, because you only see your hands. And they lock you in an invisible bubble. But with a full body, they should’ve redid every blend-in spot, making that if you pick up a glass/newspaper/cleaning cloth, you are blended in while staying in some proximity, but that is tremendous work (esp. to make it not janky) that no one would’ve expected.

The climbing, I guess, is understandable

Looking at the footage, for climbing I’ve actually expected that they save all the VR-specific changes to ledges, that make them wider and simply walkable. I’m pretty sure that in Cuba training mission you can just walk this ledge. The only issue I’ve encountered with the old system is that people can notice you when you crouching across the window, where in flatscreen/PSVR2 47 would just make a quick move

Is it just PSVR2 though?

Like, over 100 bug fixes. I know its a bit rough and shaky, but I don’t think the new VR mode has had that many issues, big or small.

Fingers crossed they’re just pointing out PSVR2 specifically, but it’s more than that.
