I’m happy for new players but for myself I’m torn on this. It’s exactly what I’ve wanted for years but because of the game’s progression system and all the permanently unobtainable items like my weird coin or briefcase from playing the first HITMAN, I’ll probably never get this.
If we had cross platform saves or something I’d get this in a heartbeat but as it stands it’s just a neat from me.
Also it runs like a slideshow from what we’ve seen. I’m still baffled by their decision not to port the Hitman HD Trilogy to switch or switch 2. You know, the games you could fully enjoy on the go without a internet connection?
thats a good point it did seem a little choppy which is weird because WoA runs great on PS4 Pro - locked 60 - and the switch is supposedly around that power? Tho Freelancer chugs on any PS4 or XBONE model
Also they’ve already ported Blood Money to Switch and it’s great so why not Abso too?
I’d say we still wait until IOI gives a more detailed description of the Switch 2 version, since, well, (sorry, buddy) but combatglue hasn’t had the best track record in informing players of something in a detailed manner (especially if it was just in a quick DM question/answer you sent him)
When it comes to marketing Hitman, and especially if they’re trying to take advantage of the Switch 2’s portability, I feel like IOI would want to ensure at least Challenges and Progression work remotely, since otherwise, dear god, either IOI hadn’t thought about the Online/Offline disconnect or are willfully ignoring the issue for a platform that is inherently designed to not always be plugged-in to the internet.
Like, that feels like specific wording they’d use if the game (mostly) worked as intended - online just as the other versions do.
The Steam deck has been around for almost three years now, and missed the chance to specifically cater toward it. Players have been complaining about this since 2016. You do the math. IO don’t want to make a proper offline mode, that is pretty clear by now, because otherwise they would’ve listened to our incessant nagging and done something more substantial than making unlockables work offline, mission replayability with no scoring.
IO wants this game to be a live service, and pours all their resources and attention into that design philosophy, and that has remained true for the better part of a decade. Through the 2016 release, through the aforementioned unlockables change (a band aid fix at best), through the GOG release and delisting in 2022, and even now, during this very conversation. While I don’t actually dislike their Live Service vision, I’m very against the company treating the two ideas as mutually exclusive, when they are not incompatible at all.
I agree with this, though again, we have confirmation that it isn’t the case, so what they said to Grim47 is borderline misleading when you don’t know the full context.
You do know that CombatGlue and Marchouette are in charge of those announcements, right?
As of now Project 007 is and will only be a teaser until more materializes. To say it’s far along holds no weight when we haven’t had any substantial updates on the Game since its first teaser.
That’s all well and good, but until we see anything meaningful that claim really holds no substance. Call me pessimistic, but it will be 5 Years come this November where we’ve seen absolutely nothing about this game.
I’ll eat my words come game reveal season this summer, but until then Project 007 as it stands to us non IOI people is nothing more than a teaser.
