No, you’ve missed the point, and willfully at this point, I think, of how the risk in using the phone is in getting it in front of the target to be picked up and used without being exposed while getting there and without any other NPCs picking up the phone. That is what the damn challenge is; it’s not in the killing, it’s in getting to the target to kill them. Your video, for the hundredth time, is you using the one target that is not in a restricted zone that requires you to sneak or disguise yourself, and there’s nobody else around to pick up the phone. It is literally the one target with no risk of getting caught or killing the wrong person, but all the others have that risk. If you cannot demonstrate how you can use the phone without having to use any of the means of getting around in a restricted area and being exposed on the way there, then you cannot demonstrate how the phone takes away the challenge, because you still have the same challenge: getting to the damn target.
At this point, the discussion has run its course. The electrocution phone is fun, IO should put it back in, and those who don’t want to use it don’t have to.
then IOI added more overpowered items (like the fart briefcase and the snail) and i basically gave up on IOI ever having game balance for any of their unlocks.
at this point, i would not care if IOI brought it back. they might as well make some people happy.
You mean briefcase and emetic device stored inside?
That’s just a little joke as I personally see it.
Looks pretty funny, especially considering the carrier (Agent 47) doesn’t gives a shit about the device effect
At least it does not allows instant free kill, so it’s slightly different
I firmly maintain the phone is not OP. There are barely any challenges you can unlock by killing someone with it, and almost every mission in the game has multiple targets or secondary objectives. Even if it does trivialize killing one target, there is still the matter of figuring out the other targets/objectives. The vast majority of escalations and contracts have you killing someone in a method other than electrocution, and/or they have multiple targets so again it doesn’t totally trivialize the mission. I can understand how it could make certain Elusive Targets easier, however many of them have easy non-phone methods of Silent Assassin completion anyway, even without the Sieker or fart briefcase. Even if you could use it in the Elusive Target Arcade, it might make The Codices easier, however the “Hide all bodies” complications in The Ellipses and The Deceits mean that it wouldn’t really help at all.
From the contract mode perspective I am glad it is gone. For non-guard targets, requiring electrocution has now a meaning, a potential challenge.
By the way regarding the “There are still other objectives, it does not beat the mission at once”, that is true. But take any mission and subtract the target that is the most challenging to you (and does not require another method). I think it can hugely change the challenge of the entire mission.
I was rooting with the others for making it lethal when in a puddle. If you bump a NPC who answers a phone, the NPC drops it. A good way to get it back when the wrong NPC picked it up.
They could have added an animation where the NPC is hurt by it, drops it, and then it is doing it’s electrocution effect.
The fact that you can start right in front of or near a target sometimes contradicts that.
Shall I?
Paris:
Viktor - start as tech crew, take and start the fireworks right away and he walks basically right towards you. Drop the phone in his path and he gets it. Free kill.
Dalia - start in auction and wait for her to finish her speech. Place on her table where she drinks. Free kill.
Sapienza:
Caruso - start as gardener and place the phone beside his golf bag. He picks it up. Free kill.
Francesca - start as mansion guard and place the phone right on the table in between you. She picks it up. Free kill.
Marrakech:
Claus - start as janitor, place phone by window where Swedish flag shows. He will pick it up. Free kill.
Zaydan - start as soldier, place phone right in his path out of his office around the corner. He will pick it up. Free kill.
Bangkok:
Morgan - place phone behind bodyguard, Morgan sees and goes to pick it up. Free kill.
Jordan - Start as recording crew, place phone on little table in his recording booth. Free kill.
Colorado
Rose - start as hacker, run outside and place phone on the first car’s hood, Rose picks it up. Free kill.
Graves - start as hacker, place phone right beside her. She picks it up. Free kill.
Parvati - start as militia tech, place phone on trailer corner that holds 3 blocks (on the trailer corner that points towards the forklift carrying said blocks), wait for her to walk outside and she will be the only one to pick it up. Free kill.
Ezra - start as hacker, walk outside and place phone behind guard that leans against the double stacked boxes. Ezra picks it up. Free kill.
Hokkaido:
Yuki - start in rieper suite, run towards yuki, stop in hallway leading to outside where she starts, drop phone half way down hallway, she picks it up, free kill.
Get the point now? Regardless of what you said about my video, I still get to start in any start location and get to the target where he/she will EVENTUALLY be and the target will pick it up with NO consequence to the player. Hence free kill.
The fact that you say there’s a puzzle is not true cuz as I said, you are able to use any start location in the game. The phone has no risk in using. The puzzle should also include how you risk your self to kill the target, for example shooting them can lose SA if body found or seen shooting. Even a injected poison kill has a consequence of being see while injecting. Even dropping a chandelier has a consequence if seen pulling the lever to drop it. Every kill has a consequence (or risk) in trying to use EXCEPT the electrocution phone.
The things that don’t have any consequence would be like an electrocution kill via mini taser. But that need the target to walk in water and not every target does. And that includes in contracts mode where you can make any npc a target. But with the phone, even in contracts mode, every npc is easy to kill with that.
So again, if you want to say it’s fun, fine. You like it? Fine. But don’t say it’s puzzling to use or a challenge. The point of the phone is that it’s a FREE KILL with NO RISK OR CONSEQUENCE.
That’s what makes it a terrible item to have in the game.
And I can solve every single example you just gave with one sentence: start at the default setting. And, again, that’s what you did in your video. Try doing that again on those other maps, starting from default, and trying doing it while taking no risk. Your claim falls apart. And that was my point if you would pay attention to everything I’ve posted so far, which had been extensive.
But your point is irrelevant cuz you’re talking about something in the game that doesn’t exist, and that’s being forced to start at the default location.
If you are starting at one of the special starting points, you are already choosing to skip challenges. It doesn’t matter at that point what you use if you choose to begin from inside the target’s safe zone. That’s somehow mine who doesn’t want to deal with the challenge, and it’s up to the player to decide how they want to play, right? So there’s no need to remove the phone because it removed challenge if the person playing doesn’t want the challenge and is already taking steps to bypass them, by that logic.
In any event, that’s irrelevant. You said in your post with your video that you could do what you did in the video with every target and you started from the default starting point for that target, and performed no action beyond walking, opening a door, dropping the phone, and triggering it. I challenged you to do exactly the same with a list of other targets to choose from and you could not, because that would require actually facing a challenge and solving the puzzle of getting to the target without being caught.
I’m tired of repeating myself. Follow your boast of being able to do as you did, while following the rules I laid out that ensure you would face no challenge or take no puzzle-solving action while doing so, which would help prove your point if you succeeded, or do not and forfeit. Either way, I’ve already shown my case for how you can still face a challenge even with that phone. If you’re going to ignore them and keep repeating the same points I’ve already debunked over and over, it’s on you.
Yes, but if you don’t, there’s still the challenge of having to get to the target. Having the phone doesn’t change that. So the phone does not remove the challenge; how you choose to play removes it.
Ok, let’s say I choose to start default spot. Sure it’s challenge to get the required disguise (for example the printer disguise to walk right into the school and face Zaydan face to face), but once that is done, there’s no challenge after that. I can just GIVE the target his death medicine (phone) free of charge. It was the only item in the game that gives a free kill.
No, we’re not. We have literally not for the entire time. We are talking about the puzzle aspect of the game, and that’s according to you.
You:
Also you:
And the puzzle aspect is still present, even with this phone.
And as I’ve said, over and over again as well, and let’s try it again with clarity:
The phone is still a risk because the target is not the only person who can pick it up. Even if you are standing right in front of them when you drop it, whatever NPC sees a dropped item first is the one who will pick it up, even if they are further away. You run the risk, however remote, of someone else picking up the phone instead when you use it, ruining your efforts, requiring you to recover it and continue to try. Not every target goes to an area where population is sparse emotion that this can be absolutely assured, and most targets travel with a bodyguard and they can at times turn to the guard and ask them to pick it up instead, even when it’s just the two of them in the room, which should be a slam dunk by your standards.
By your logic, if you are in the bathroom waiting for Margolis, you can use a lethal syringe on her and there is no risk, because nobody is going to come inside and witness it while she’s in there alive, and nobody witnesses it from the window, and you don’t have to worry about her aid walking in while hiding her body, because you don’t have to hide it with a lethal syringe. There is no risk to doing this in this exact situation. Yeah, you have to get there and hide from her while in there, but if you’re going off of the logic that the challenge of getting to the target and actually killing the target are separate things, well, killing the target in this way in this scenario has the same zero risk. And going off of your other logic from earlier, if you start in a disguise that allows you to handle food and drink, and have poison in your inventory, then you are at zero risk in poisoning the target’s consumables, and it’s even more assured because there’s no risk of someone else consuming it other than the target. There are other items and scenarios, however remote, where you have the same risk and results. Ergo, the phone is not the only item that can be used to “break” the puzzle aspect of the game, so it’s removal is superfluous.
Wrong. Cuz you can still get seen by her. So there still a CHANCE of getting spotted. That’s what you’re not understanding. The poison kill STILL IS NOT a free kill, and everywhere else too, whereas the phone there is no risk in using it.
