IO's communication with the community

Well I don’t think Freelancer has been dropped as IOI are still providing content to it, such as the Safehouse cosmetics. I just think it’s way overdue some bug fixes that we’ve all highlighted on here for some time now. The missing coin and soundless Dubai Helicopter are two things.

And the one bug that was claimed to be fixed last week is actually not.

In relation to the thread, it would be cool if Combatglue setup some type of Hitman podcast panel to address feedback from us the fans, update us on content/future roadmaps for Year 4 and what big bug fixes can be expected this year, such as the missing coin saga and other issues :slightly_smiling_face:

Regardless, I will always be loyal to IOI and Hitman!! :raised_hands:t2:

And let’s not forget the “Perfect Run” prestige objective that mysteriously disappeared as “broken, but will return”…we’ve heard nothing of whether it is coming back or not…

A small step in the right direction - an admission of a communication breakdown. Hopefully this leads to clearer communication in the future.

sorry! i’ll just delete that bit because it’s dumb

I just dont want to feel like we’re talking behind his back either tho, but youre right and Dribble’s right that just saying “IO” is good enough and it’s better to make a habit of just saying that instead. I’m worried i have said something to offend unintentionally when i meant to direct my frustrations at IO and not some random employee

As I said in an earlier post here, we aren’t upset at IOI’s spokesperson, per se. We are disappointed in the lack of communication (or perceived lack, depending on your point of view) of IOI, particularly given their past efforts.

CombatGlue just happens to be their current spokesperson so he gets the focus, but if someone else at IOI would like to chime in, we’ll be happy to discuss it with them.

yea give CG credit he’s the only IOI employee who DOES interact with the community now, moreso than Travis and Clemens did at the end of the lifecycle God bless em

Just popping in here, saying how I’m proud that you guys are maybe recognizing not to get too personal with disappointment in CombatG, current community manager.
I feel like since I have Herald status though I should address this issue a little: I was worried this would become one big hate-thread for IOI’s community managers and especially their newest hire.

Give the guy a break. He’s not even a year into taking over full-time since both Travis and Clemens left by the start of 2024.

He’s also (seemingly) just the messenger here. We don’t specifically know what all tasks of his job requires, but I’m sure he has to keep a lot of plates spinning with regards to coming up with Roadmap ideas for the team, communicating issues between the community and the various dev groups at IOI, and heck probably training for and ramping up their marketing and community interaction for the 007 Project.

Keep in mind there were times in the past where we’d ask Travis for into on a specific bug or question for the dev team, and he wouldn’t always come back with an answer on an IOI Insider stream, unfortunately.

Let’s face it. HITMAN as a fully-supported project is clearly winding down its support, so it’s understandable to get annoyed at the tiny patch notes recently, but still, the Community Manager probably doesn’t have the authority to actually get those issues fixed by telling X/Y/Z programming team to get on it.
It’s more of an issue with IOI management probably not dedicating enough time to address these current specific issues (no matter if they’ve been requested for a looong time, I’m frustrated too :frowning: )

Okay, all this to say, good job for toning it down a little guys. It’s probably easier for CG to actually communicate with you and be a bit more transparent (if IOI allows it I guess) when you aren’t saying:

“[this forum user] would’ve been a better community manager for us”

and instead look to saying this:

just saying “IO” is good enough and it’s better to make a habit of just saying that

The issue isn’t with just one person so try not to get too targeted with them. :no_good_man: :white_heart:

Hey everyone,

I want to address a few concerns in this thread, as good as I can.

Communication:

We could not publicly confirm anything before the official announcement which impacted what we could share and when. I understand the frustration and will strive to improve this.

Maintenance Notices:

We’ll work on providing more than 30 minutes’ notice for maintenance. We’ll aim to post at least a day in advance in the future.

Twitch Drops:

Due to changes in the backend, the drop setup was different. Key influencers were initially involved, with drops for everyone starting Tuesday. Next time, we’ll have a dedicated post explaining how it works, both claiming and our plans for the drop. We hope you’re happy with us bringing back the old drops for the growing player base.

New to HITMAN:

I’m still learning and enjoying the game, even if I streamed it a few years ago, I still consider myself new with that said, I will still explore the game in a steady pace, on stream so I can talk to you while I enjoy it and off-stream.

Commitment to Improvement:

I hear your concerns and appreciate your feedback. We’re already working on ways of improving our community engagement here and on social media, as well as having clearer notices.

Thank you for your patience and understanding. If I missed something, feel free to ping me here again. I’ll try to answer the things I can and also take the constructive feedback to the right people internally.

There we go. This kind of communication and clarification is all we’re asking for. Well, not all we’re asking for, obviously, but the primary thing we’re asking for. Appreciate that it’s been acknowledged and improvements to it will be addressed.

That sounds really good
If you guys follow through with this approach, then I’ll be very happy with IOI’s communication with its fans.

Something that wasn’t mentioned in this post but I think needs to be addressed is the shadow dropping of Elusive Targets. Many people missed The Stoaway and The Gunrunner because there wasn’t any announcement to them. If there’s going to be time limited content released outside the normal roadmap please make a blog post or something to make people aware that’s coming.

Thanks for the update @Combatglue, things like these posts really mean a lot to passionate fans like us :slightly_smiling_face:

Thanks again for all you do on here and behind the scenes at IOI. Respect! :+1:t2:

Hopefully that will be the last time that it occurs.

An interim roadmap or a redacted Season of The Disruptor roadmap that concealed McGregor’s identity would have been a better idea. If the powers that be would have allowed it that is.

A quick summary before I get all annoyed; I think this a good post. I am glad we got some accountability and that IOI didn’t just stay silent here, which they easily could’ve.

While I’m sure this is true to an extent, I remain convinced that you could’ve told us that it would not be a massive update in terms of patch notes or side content. That would’ve kept some of our expectations in check, even if it would’ve been a bit of a downer in advance. I know this is more related to internal IO politics, but, IO mandating complete silence before this roadmap was a pretty bad decision all-round, especially since we had a very good idea that the CelebrET was Conor McGregor well in advance due to his Instagram already having a post of him holding up a game box, and sleuths on here and on reddit worked it out it was Hitman within a few days. And that was posted seven weeks ago as of writing this.

Imagine knowing, or having a strong suspicion of, who the CelebrET is for that long – a foregone conclusion waiting to be unveiled, and are met with radio silence for a long time. It’s not a good feeling. I hope IO’s upper management can be convinced to loosen up when it comes to talking about upcoming patches and content in future.

Might I suggest aiming for at least 5 days minimum? Still, this is excellent news to hear all-round.

There is a suspicious amount of dodging the controversy here. While I appreciate the message behind the paragraph, I don’t think anyone was satisfied with twitch drops being made available specifically for certain streamers. I strongly suggest making all twitch drops available game-wide, instead of simply the returning ones.

I also noticed the wording does feel a little…loophole-ey. It never denies that specific drops for specific streamers won’t happen again despite being the main controversy of this bit.

That’s good to hear! I’m really glad you’re enjoying the game, and I hope one day you’ll get to a point where you can do the jump glitch in the Sapienza Caves! It obviously helps to have knowledge of the game when you do social media posts and PR, but it isn’t required, I’ll admit.

While this is obviously meant to be an apology…there’s…no apology, just a commitment to do better. The latter is fine of course, but former is kind of necessary to resolve this fully. Anyhoo, let’s hope this commitment sticks, eh?

Thank you for sharing this information with us, it does help put my mind at rest a bit. I know this comes off as nitpicking, but some of what was said here didn’t exactly sit well with me yesterday, and I thought I’d explain what that was so people could understand my thought process.

Anyway, More Hitman, Less Drama!

Going to do a quick answer on the things I can answer.

I hear you, and I agree with you. Setting expectations is in everyone’s favor.
But I can just say this was a special case, and there were a lot of things in play.

I will discuss it with the team and try to give you guys as much of a heads-up as possible, of course, but this is a special situation we were in, and I agree that we could have given at least a better heads-up than what we did.

I am looking into doing more with Twitch, and there will come times when deals are struck for the greater good of the whole community, for giving the biggest reach possible based on numbers. But I have the community best in mind, and I will always try to have it on a fallback that everyone gets the drops in the end.

I am happy to discuss ideas around this with you and for the rest of course.

One day!
I am trying to find more time to play the game, and I agree. I think it is a key thing. If I do not enjoy the game, then how can I be your strongest voice to the devs?

I do not feel it is my place to apologize; I am here to voice your opinions and make sure you are heard, as well as the fights internally that I can take. And, of course, vice versa with the devs!

I hope you guys feel this is a safe space to express your frustrations, even if they’re directed at me.
I will always try to listen, even if, at times, I might have my hands.

Hmm, sorry for missing this; I will look into why this happened and try to amend it in the future.

I’m glad you’re being more open now!

Could you address some of the things that were actually broken in this patch? Like the Paris briefing and debriefing (the ending cutscene introducing Lucas Grey!) being removed, along with the lenses of glasses across the trilogy being broken.

I’ve made mods to fix both of these with explanations on how to fix them on IOI’s side:

Paris Videos:

If anyone from IOI is wondering how I fixed it: somehow the Paris video database entity (entity id: ae3ea52523f82c5e) was removed from the m_aVideDatabases array in the video database list entity (entity id: abe679c7c19e3fd9) in the latest update, both of these are found in assembly:/templates/ui/menuresources.template?/videodatabaselist.entitytemplate.

Lenses:

If anyone from IOI is wondering how I fixed it: somehow the Texture2D_01 was changed in assembly:/_pro/characters/assets/_apparel/accessories/glasses/materials/lens_basic.mi to the texture for sunglasses. I assume this occured during the creation of The Disruptor’s outfit. I reverted the texture back to the original, and added a material override to the actor and hero variants of The Disruptor Fur Coat.

Feel free to pass them to the relevant internal teams.

Both bugs have been reported and are being worked on.

Someone made a good ticket to us early on and it was picked up super quick.
