Because Providence was intentionally using Diana as bait to lure 47 out so they could use the neurotoxin on him and capture him. It was part of Dianaās and The Constantās respective plans
Diana probably offered up 47 to gain The Constantās trust. But also with the knowledge that 47 would inevitably take The Constant down if he could get close enough
Why The Constant let 47 kill two of his upper followers I have no idea. My best bet is that he thought it was an acceptable loss in order to acquire 47 as a weapon. Obviously Vidal and Yates werenāt privy to that part of the plan tho
Thatās a good point. 47 shows up to meet Diana and 2 of his closest underlings end up dead? No way he wouldnāt think itās 47 and Diana working together. But he doesnāt seem upset. If anything he seems impressed that she handed him over.
Tbh I wouldnāt be surprised if he actually wanted Yates dead. He doesnāt seem super loyal, he literally betrayed his own wife and then tries to go against Edwardsā decision to bring Diana into the fold. Vidal on the other hand was loyal to a fault, she was a real asset to lose.
He knows Diana has to touch 47 to transfer the neurotoxin tho. So anything Diana does could theoretically be written off as her gaining 47ās trust back to get close to him.
But mainly I think Edwards was blinded by his own hubris for a lot of his decisions in regards to Diana and 47.
Edit: the more I think about H3 the more I respect IOās writers. I really enjoyed the narrative in this one
Yates was a liability, he was clearly going to try and take over by force eventually. Vidal though⦠That is the weird one. Was she made out to be a fool by Grey? Maybe that was her punishment
Honestly, I feel spoiled now for other stories. There are so many franchises that donāt pay off the earlier hints that they lay down or donāt have the balls to write women as strong as Diana. Weāre so lucky as fans.
I know what you mean about not wanting to harm Diana: sheās my favourite character in the series, easily! That tango exit always makes me grin.
Fortunately, I think that H3 makes it explicit that sedating NPCs quite literally just makes them sleep (they now snore!), so you could probably KO Diana that way and get the challenge.
Hitman NPCs seem to have far more resilience than humans in our world, anyway: you can, after all, KO someone with a frying pan and they will carry on as normal if woken up. I think the ādepressedā routine is the exception rather than the norm.
Diana explains in the intro that she will āconvince [Edwards] that [47] acted aloneā in killing Yates and Vidal. Edwards isnāt offering them up as bait; when they die, he simply wonāt realise that Diana was a part of it.
I understand peopleās confusion regarding Mendoza: itās tricky working out who thinks what! I see no real evidence that Yates and Vidal are aware of Dianaās plan with Edwards to capture 47; I think they legitimately see her as a threat.
Yeah but also we should take what Diana says with a pinch of salt because she isnāt telling 47 the whole truth. Sheās at least partially lying to him because sheās working with Edwards to capture him. Diana obviously wouldnāt say anything to implicate her working with Edwards, the whole plan hinges on 47 trusting her (too much)
As for if Edwards wants Yates and Vidal dead or if thatās Dianaās initiative? You could make a case for either side
Yeah, I agree there. Whether or not Edwards allowed/wanted them to be killed, they themselves had no idea of the larger game being played. Simply because neither Diana nor Edwards would benefit from them knowing
Well Iād say Yates isnāt loyal to anyone, heās only out for himself. He couldnāt care less about Providence really, he just wants more power.
Vidal on the other hand is actually truly loyal, not specifically to any one leader, but to Providence as a whole. She seems like a true believer in what they do
As for my personal headcanon:
Iād wager Edwards wants rid of Yates because heās power hungry and could be a genuine threat to Edwards (he already manages to get all the Heralds to lie to/betray Edwards in the mission).
Vidal on the other hand might be Dianaās idea. She is a politically savvy and loyal Providence Herald (compared to what we see of other Heralds). Which would make her a fearsome adversary. So seeing as Dianaās true end goal is to bring Providence down, then taking Vidal out now would indeed be a smart move.
I suspect that Diana would have had to lie to the Constant about why Vidal was killed. I canāt really see him trading her in exchange for Diana and 47, especially as sheās the only person to ever see through the āTobias Rieperā persona.
Although 47 expresses the idea of making her a target, I can certainly imagine Diana thinking it. She must know during the mission that sheād have no hope of eliminating Providence with Vidal around.
I just think Diana justified of having Yates and Vidal dead to Edwards is that it is the only way to gain 47ās trust so she can hand over him to Edwards. Of course, there may be better ways thoughā¦
I donāt think Edwards want Yates to be dead. Edwardsā future plan for Providence is to merge all Providence assets into a supra-national corporate state which is why he needs Yatesā help as a corporate lawyer. Edwards may not trust Yates to be loyal to him but no way he wants Yates to be dead that early.
Yeah, you can lure one of the Heralds (obviously one of the male ones) somewhere secluded. I recommend the guy by the fire pit. Heās near the edge of the party so you can lure him pretty easily with coin throws. Then just KO him and hide his body in one of the flower circles
