Movies You’ve Only Just Watched

I thought he was awesome but i was also confused that he’s more of a henchman to Falcone in the movie but towards the end he takes over Falcones organization, i think

I’d also love to see those return to the big screen but i have the feeling since the Nolan movies there are going for a more “grounded/realistic” vibe: Raz al Ghul didnt had the Lazarus Pit, Bane didn’t had his Venom Device and so on. What a shame.

also theres still a scene with the Joker in the movie, he talks to the Riddler in the End and implies he’s a friend of him and that Gotham “always loved a good comeback story”. I’m afraid we’ll get the Joker in the next movie or a team-up of both in the last movie of the Trilogy .
I just assume Pattinson will also make a Trilogy of movies. He was a very good Batman imo.

Normally I would disagree with this statement, but after seeing the leaked scene that was cut and seeing what he looks like, please don’t give us this Joker. He looks absolutely awful. Ever since Heath Ledger’s take on the character, every version in film and several in comics are either scarred or wearing make-up, and I’m tired of that. Just have him with the permanent bleached white skin and green hair, and the smile because the chemicals pulled his mouth that way. Stop with the scars and make-up to keep making him seem more and more extreme.

I’m a simple man, i want my joker to be a gangster who drops into a kettle full of chemicals.

I prefer the harmless failed comedian origin, but hey, multiple choice pasts are fun.

Darkman

Was reminded of this by a recent RedLetterMedia video and just felt like I needed to re-watch it.

It’s been long time since I saw this last time. Such a good movie. It drips with Sam Raimi’s style, but even though he’s sort of reigned it in a bit for this film, I still feel like one or two moments in there are a bit too cartoony for what the film is doing.
That being said, it is exactly the pulpy, cartoony, over the top aspects of this film that really make it something special. 99% of time it just works soooo well if you’re in for the ride. It’s like a cartoon mixed with a Universal monster movie.

Danny Elfman’s main theme is absolutely fantastic:

You can tell that the film has a lower budget for its time (it’s particurly obvious in the helicopter scene near the end), but still they manage to pull through some pretty awesome effects and makeup. Darkman’s look when his face is exposed is great.

A favorite of mine for sure.

I watched an Indian Film - “RRR” in theatre after more than two years.
Really enjoyed this Movie, we Indian love song and dance in movies  - like Rangan’s dance shoot in Hitman 2 - Mumbai location.
If you love dancing, watch the dance step in below video on timing 0:30 - 0:40. It is trending here in India. Heard this dance is filmed in beautiful Ukraine (Kiev maybe) before pandemic.

Bad Moms is on television right now. I forgot how funny it was. It’s the movie where Mila Kunis decides to run against the long time PTA President played by Christina Applegate. Kathryn Hahn plays one of Mila’s friends and she’s absolutely hilarious. Wendell Pierce and Clark Duke play small parts and whoever plays Milas husband is also really funny.
Worth your time!

That movie was pretty good. If you liked it then you should read Gates of Fire by Steven Presfield. It’s wonderful.

I recently re-watched The Tobey Maguire Spider-man trilogy and Andrew Garfiled movies as a warm up for Spider-Man No Way home. Movies I have just watched might be a stretch, yet here are my thoughts on the film as a hole.

Spider-man (2002) is a enjoyable movie. It’s a solid start for the web crawler on the silver screen. Some of the effects looks a bit dated by todays standard, but nothing that takes away from the overall film. Maguire is great as Peter Parker, plays him very awkwardly, bit flat as a wisecracking superhero. William Dafoe is great as The Green Goblin, even if he looks like a rejected Power Ranger villain. His overall relationship with Harry, sets Harry eventual fall from grace up nicely. 7/10

Spider-Man 2 (2004) has a lot of great things going on. I love how it portrays New York and it’s citizens relationship with Spider-Man. Peter Parker trying to balance a school life, work life, relationships and being a superhero. Here Peter is the greatest element of the film. The villain Doc Ock, well. Last time I re-watched it I found his motivations lacking and overall him to be a let down. I still do 5 years later. He just turns evil, there is no drive behind him other then power. It doesn’t dwell over the lose of his wife. I know his neural chip is fried and the arms take over. It still seems like lazy writing and a co-out for not actually developing him as a character. I give Doc Ock a 4/10 and the movie a 7/10.

Spider-Man 3 (2007) Oh well. The dance sense is hard to watch. It plays with some cool themes, but there is to much going on. Thomas Harden Church’s Sandman is great, Harry Osborn development over the last 3 films pays off. Eddie Brock/Venom looks cool and there isn’t much else to say about him. It’s an alright conclusion 6/10.

The Amazing Spider-Man (2012) underrated. Andrew Garfield is great as Spider-man, a bit too cool for Parker. Emma Stone is lovely and extremely likeable. The Lizard design is controversial, I don’t hate it far from. 8/10

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is also underrated. It got a banger soundtrack. Spidey’s suit is the best live action rendition. Electro much like The Lizard is also controversial in terms of design, it doesn’t bother me. Emma Stone is once again even more charming and it makes the end hurt so much more. 8/10

Personally I just prefer the Andrew Garfield movies and I’m forever sadden we didn’t get a conclusion to the trilogy. Are they perfect? no, but they always resonated well with me.

Spider-Man No way home (2021) It’s one of the better MCU movies and newer Spider-man films.Sadly I don’t think the classical enemies are used to their full potential expect the Green Goblin. Many of them are played for laughs, never really seeming threatening. It amazes me that the Lizard looks worse then he did 9 years ago, same with the Sandman. Electro looks very hip, we never really get’s an explanation for why he looks drastically different. Other then a throwaway joke about him not being nerdy.

Doctor Strange is extremely careless, I found it a bit out of character. He’s a proud and egotistical, like Stark. But I never took him for being outright foolish and careless.

Tom Holland is a great both as Peter and Spider-man he balanced both aspect of the character better then his two predecessors. I’m glad that the Iron-Spider suit plays little to no role in the movie, I hate that suit. I’m glad to see a more low-tech suit towards the end and not just Iron-man suit jr. size.

The best part of the movie is hands down, when Tobey and Andrew Garfield shows up. They really elevate the film and their life lessons helps this Peter Parker move forward both as himself and as Spider-Man. 7/10

I also quickly re-watched Into the Spider-verse and it’s the superior Spider-man film. Except for Spider-Pig, I don’t enjoy him. That said he wasn’t aimed towards my demographic. 9/10.

Why do so many people have issue with Willem Dafoe’s Green Goblin mask? That face actually looks scary. I’ve seen the alternatives they had, people, and let me tell you, none of them would have worked. For a “realistic” take on the Spider-Man franchise, a helmet with a goblin face was the way to go. Look at the Amazing Spider-Man 2 version for an example of how making it an actual face doesn’t work.

And don’t get me started on the criticism of Raimi’s Spider-Man’s organic web-shooters, the single greatest contribution to the Spider-Man franchise since its inception and a long overdue correction to Stan Lee’s greatest mistake with the character in not making his web an actual power!

eh natural webs, as great as they may be do kinda make spider-man too overpowered

It’s not just the mask, it’s the overall suit. I thought it was the bee’s knees when I was 12. Today I think it’s very much a product of it time, it hasn’t aged well. Glad to hear you find it scary, it just doesn’t work for me. I think it looks exactly what I called it, a rejected Power Ranger villain.

Still doesn’t mean this design works either, It’s very likely I will find the others just as “bad” as the one they went with. I’m much more invested in William Dafoe’s portrayal and overall presence on screen.

I don’t think that is a good design either, but I’m not comparing the two. I find both to be rather bad.

I have no strong feelings towards them, other then they make a fun joke in No Way Home.

Emma Stone is a national treasure! I’d knock off a point or two just for killing her off (even though Gwen Stacy’s survival rate in the comics isn’t high).

I think I was a little “Spider-Man’d out” after the third one so I’ve not actually seen these two yet. I’ve always kind of meant to because of the aforementioned Emma Stone and I wanted to give Andrew Garfield a chance because I thought a lot of the “underrating” came from being compared to the “original” in Tobey Maguire (and it didn’t hurt that a band I like provided music for his second outing). I caught bits of them both on tv recently and they were very compelling and made me want to find time to finally catch up with them (although I also don’t like that there isn’t a “proper ending”).

Willem Dafoe was born to play Green Goblin; he steps so seamlessly back into the role, you’d have no idea that it’d been almost two decades. I would say the movie does a decent job of exploring how some of the others, particularly Doc Ock, aren’t evil so much as swept up in events.

I know his movie is dull as hell but remember he became Doctor Strange by using his cellphone while driving and speeding on the highway in a downpour; seems like kind of a reckless dude.

I agree. Maguire gets to be Elder Statesman and Garfield gets a little redemption arc (though Stone probably would have died from whiplash (and/or her spine snapping in half) whether or not he caught her before she smashed her head on the pavement).

That is an incredible movie! “You don’t get to like my haircut,” is one of my favorite movie lines; it’s right up there with, “f*ck me gently with a chainsaw,” from Heathers.

I saw The Batman two times at the cinema, half a movie yesterday at home before I felt asleep, again today from the beginning and I’m going to watch it again tomorrow with a friend.
Did I liked the movie? I’m safe to say I sure did. It’s all serious and gritty from start to end. No jokes, not a single one.
It has a lot The Joker vibes.

but unlike The Joker, this movie was actually original and good

Alright I have not seen the movie but even I can see that it owes at least some credit to Se7en, while I will say that proportionately it is less than what The Joker owes to Scorsese’s late Seventies work.

Jungle Cruise was pretty alright. It’s based of a Disney ride but the movie justifies its existence by being a blend of The Mummy (1999), Indiana Jones and Pirates of the Caribbean. Unfortunately, it’s kind of a blander, safer version of those films, even its powerful magical artifact and sappy romance storylines. It also does what movies have thankfully mostly stopped doing where the female lead is mainly “interesting” because she’s a modern woman in a backwards time. It was released in 2021 and takes place in 1916 for reference.

That said, it does have its moments and there’s some fairly interesting riffs on history. The foreshadowing to certain twists is really well done, being enough so the astute viewer could see it coming but so in your face as to be obvious, and pays off generally well. The Rock is pretty good, the German villain is stereotypical but makes it work (and does some fairly illogical things with a submarine) and some of the jokes and gags land really well. Emily Blunt does well too but I wish there was more to her character.

On that note, I wish there was more to the whole movie. There’s a lot to like but a lot holding it back. It seems to spend more time emulating its aforementioned inspirations and recapturing their magic than creating its own.
