Movies You’ve Only Just Watched

No I absolutely adored the art, very well crafted.

No, it’s not scary. I hardly find any movie to be genuinely scary. There are a few, mostly those with pale and dark haired ghost girls kept me from sleeping. But in more recent memory, it’s only been Netflix’s The Hunting of Hill House, that has affected my sleep in adulthood.

The Substance is just so extremely uncomfortable, a lot of body horror. It hit two of my big no’s, Knee and Teeth.

The ending was just silly.

Bro is afraid of Danny Phantom lmao. The Exorcist is one scary movie, despite its age, gives me still goosebumps.

Same, at least these days. As a child, there were several movies that scared me so much I almost developed outright phobias as a result (Tremors and Cameron’s Closet, I’m looking at you). But now, as an adult, I don’t get scared in the same way anymore. Now, movies scare me more in a slow burn manner. The existential implications of a movie’s story are what frighten me now. If I’m thinking about it long after the movie is over, making connections to the fundamental horror of a film’s story in a more abstract or hypothetical manner, those are movies that scare me now. Not so much from directly being scary, but based off their ideas or implications that my imagination builds upon (Event Horizon and Maximum Overdrive, I’m looking at you).

Hey don’t tell me people who can “walk through walls, disappear and flyyy :musical_note:” can’t be scary

Danny is a boy from what I recall, I don’t think your example works.

Is it though? is it?

I recently rewatched The Terminator in 4K and T2 in 4K. I been saving them for when I got hold of a OLED tv. The Terminator looked absolutely spectacular in 4K, extremely beautiful 4K remaster and might be close the original Alien remaster in 4K, which is considered by many to be the best looking 4K remaster.

After rewatching both, It cements my view that the original Terminator is far superior to the 1991 sequel. In highsigt T2 might not live up to the hype (I know this is a controversial take), in many ways I found it to be a bit to silly and the Terminator learning early 90’s slang, was a bit hard to watch. It’s not a bad movie, it just ins’t as good as I remember and neither do I agree with public perception that it’s the best of the two.

I also finally had the chance to watch Furiosa a Mad Max saga. The trailer never really hooked me, the CGI and overall visual looked a lot more cartoony. That said I still bought it in 4K and I did not expect to like it as much as I did. What a wonderful experience, it might even be better than Fury Road. Chris Hemsworth Dementus was a real scene stealer and I could easily watch a film about his escapades.

Ballerina (2025)

It felt like Paloma from No Time To Die had its own movie, which would make sense cause Ana de Armas is made for this kind of character (badass feminine type, who loves action) and has the charisma.
The revenge story is simplistic ; she uses her anger to become a killer of the Ruska Roma gang (protector more precisely, with another Slavic term), until she finds the target she was looking for.

We are in the middle of the John Wick universe with John Wick himself!
And of course Ballerina and Baba Yaga team up for while.
The town of Hallstatt as a bastion filled with mercenaries, during winter, is awesome! (#NeedToVisitThisCity)
Shoutout to the flamethrowers battle scene.

It’s a spin-off that, as it says, cuts off the head of the hydra, but the body remains.
The ‘Chop Shop’ soundtrack revisited :purple_heart:

They are both very good but I prefer Terminator as well. Terminator 1 is just about the best genre film you could make for that amount of money and idk if the same can be said for T2 which has plenty of Big Movie Moments and a great final scene but also does the thing where halfway through it’s like “okay! the heroes got away from the bad guy! what if we hang out for a bit and then explore the interesting idea that Sarah has forgotten how to be a mother and is now a Terminator herself but OH WAIT NEVERMIND THE BAD GUY IS CHASING THEM AGAIN HASTA LA VISTA BABY” and that’s all just kind of cringe if you think about it

I would agree that the original Terminator is better as a film overall, except for one factor in the sequel that outshines the first movie, and that is Robert Patrick’s T-1000. Arnold might be the reason why the franchise as a whole took off, but for that first sequel, the T-1000 pretty much carries the entire movie on its shoulders. First film, Arnold’s original carried the larger portion of the weight, but Linda Hamilton and Michael Bien also did their fair share. In 2, Arnold was still the same, but more kid-friendly, Linda had some good moments but they were limited, and John’s actor… eh. But Patrick’s role, even when offscreen, permeated the film with a more constant sense of dread than Arnold did in the first movie, carrying the story even when he wasn’t onscreen for long stretches, because you never knew when he would show up, or who or what he might be when he did, but you knew he was coming one way or another.

Just watched Casino Royale for arguably the 10th time in my life.

I can safely say it’s still as good and entertaining as the first time I’ve watched it.

Predator: Killer of Killers

Three separate but connecting stories about characters from vastly different timelines who were hunted by a Predator and managed to defeat it. The movie also explores what happens to those who win. Well, turns out they all get captured by the Predator committee to be studied and tested for a round 2 near the end and the three leads must learn to work together if they hope to survive. Plenty of action that looks great in animation form and this is one of the best Predator movies I’ve seen since the first two films. :+1:

I’ve always had a soft spot for Casino Royale. Being Craig’s first outing as 007 it was always going to be a big change from Pierce but I thought he did a superb job.

Quantum of Solace was garbage but they nailed it with Skyfall.

I think in a lot of ways Casino Royale is just a perfect film for anyone to enjoy. I have a strong belief in general that it’s a solid and enjoyable film from beginning to end and anyone can view it as a one off thing without knowing the 007 IP at all.

Quantum is fine… just I tend to fall asleep literally towards the end of it. (Happened last night)

And I’ll be watching Skyfall tonight.

Quantum may not be the best, but it gets way more hate than it deserves.
