Movies You’ve Only Just Watched

Lol. It means she was a bit “much”. Overly enthusiastic and extremely loud. An extra person would also be in your face 24/7. I’m not good at explaining things well, hopefully that makes sense

I saw Whiplash.

Freakin tense movie. One of the most tense I’ve seen.

80% of this film had me mouth agape.
Thank God the ending was somewhat cathartic… and joyful? – or as much as it can be? Sort-of?
Because this film was a roller-coaster of emotions. Damn, Miles Teller can play the drums. Damn, JK Simmons can be freakin terrifying.

you think so…?

fletcher got what he wanted all along

great movie. simmons is a treasure.

Yeah it seems like he gave up everything that was truly important. In fact even the script calls this out saying we are supposed to feel as though Miles Teller has substituted his ability to perform with an actual love of the craft. He is, now, an automaton suffering burnout even if he doesn’t know it.

I watched ‘Wrath of a Man’ yesterday, the new Guy Ritchie film. It was not a movie I expected a lot from, the trailers sold it as just another Jason Statham action movie and from the looks it seemed like another mediocre action film.

But knowing Guy Ritchie I was tempted to see it when my friend asked me I wanted to watch it. Surely enough it was a well crafted Action movie with a cliché narrative, the narrative didn’t hurt the movie and it was one of the better treatments of said trope. It’s a very well crafted movie and it uses it’s narrative well to serve the action and building up it’s tension.

I could easily imagine buying it on 4K Blu-ray when it comes out, there are far to many forgettable action movies with poor story telling, camera work, dialog and the run of the mill action. But this is not it.

That is true, but, the fact that we see Andrew stand up for himself, while also proving he can be really great was as good a moment as you could get in this film, especially with everything that came before it. At least, that’s how I feel about it.

i totally see where you’re coming from, and not to be a debbie downer, buuuuut it just seemed to prove fletcher’s brutal teaching philosophy right, which was - imho - the worst possible outcome; his toxicity is successfully passed on and neiman will never be free of him. neiman snapping back at him is a reflection of fletcher’s brand of aggression; i thought he was more impressed than anything.

Hm.

Agreed on that point.

For a split second Neiman seems to finally get the upper-hand on Fletcher, and drums his way out of a bad hand, but then, yeah, his brainwashed “love” of drumming takes over and in the end he proves Fletcher right. Fuck.

sorry, chicken. didn’t want to take anything away from you. i think part of what made the movie so good was the ambiguity of the ending. i had a total fridge horror moment with it.

No, no, it’s fine. It’s my fault for not realising it sooner.

Like, there’s this weird bittersweet feeling to how the ending is presented, with Andrew managing to give the perfect drum solo, tempo, etc. but thinking back on it – well, shit. Andrew’s fallen back into an abusive relationship.

A friend of mine told me that the father’s expression at the end, looking at him, is of more shock and fear than pride, and that seems to fit with the implications of the ending.

that’s a great shout.

Yeah, because it was in that moment he knew he lost his son forever. Pretty sad.

I probably haven´t watched the film more than once since seeing it in the cinema back then (and thoroughly enjoying it, mainly due to Sharlto Copley), but I remember being particularly fond of this scene because - aside from being borderline Michael Mann-level awesome - the villain in question is played by Brian Bloom who voices Kane in Kane and Lynch, and this role was a very much similar character.

My God the CoD audience in for a shock if that is Rambo First Blood. Rambo wouldn’t have such a Conservative fanbase if they remembered the first film was him slaughtering a brutal and unethical sheriff’s department

It’s why the first film is a gem and I think would of been better if the ending followed the book where Rambo dies at the end.

Well yeah but if you gave it that ending then Stallone couldn’t make ever increasingly bad sequels.

Speaking if which if it is Rambo (2008) then the CoD audience gets exactly what it wants. Ultra-violent nationalistic, poorly-plotted action.

We´ve got quite a few Dutch among us here, so I´m just wondering whether anyone has seen this (yet)?
