My play style, finally explained

I have nothing to contribute to this thread other than to say that the use of the word “finally” in the thread title makes me chuckle each time I see it.

Well, I had spent about 3/4 of a year here hunting at how I play the game and confusing some folks on why my style is so restrictive, and here’s the explanation at last.

I assume you also don’t use Instinct? Trying to replicate this playstyle and it is definitely something different. I’ve also got mods that completely strip away all the video gamey elements for ultimate realism.

No, I use the instinct. It doesn’t affect the surroundings and it’s confirmed as an ability of 47’s, so it’s fair to use.

It is? I always thought it’s just game mechanics. I mean, he has no superpowers.

It’s not a super-power, per se. It represents how tuned 47’s senses are and how his perception and intuition can basically tell him (within a certain distance usually) where targets and enemies and things are. It’s not x-ray vision or anything (and the only things he can really see through walls are people and objectives).

Within a certain distance? He has unlimited range when it comes to targets.

But that is kind of a superpower. I mean, it’s a difference if you tell me he can hear that someone is behind a wall and that he can literally see them through the wall. I get that he has special senses, but seeing the outline of a person through a wall seems a bit much to me and I always thought that’s just part of the game mechanics (like a picture representation of his distinct senses) :see_no_evil:

That’s why I said “usually”. He can’t see objects through walls. NPCs in the level are only visible within some distance. Targets are unlimited, yes, but anyone else is like a room or two.

It’s just how IOI chose to implement that perception. I think it’s a better implementation than Absolution used where you could see travel paths, honestly. It’s not perfect but it’s not intended to be anything beyond a visual representation of his heightened perception.

I suppose I’d do a better job relying on 47’s senses rather than my own, to be fair.

visual representation[/quote]

Yes, that’s what I mean. That if we assume he was in “real life” he wouldnt actually see silhouettes in yellow and red and white. But that he can sense that people are there, I agree on that.

To be honest, I’m glad they didn’t try to use some sort of audio cue and stuck to a visual representation. I often play without any sound turned on and I hate when games force you to hear them. Background music and dialog is fine (with subtitles) but if I HAVE to listen, it’s aggravating.

To put this back onto the original topic, I get Heisenberg allowing instinct mode as Diana herself says that 47 has this ability in the tutorial so it does fit into his play style.

I guess that also supports the idea of being able to spot enforcers, since Diana says that enforcers are a thing that exist.

And then he lost the ability for the first 4 games hehe

I would say so. In that world, he has the ability to see suspicion.

Well, games often introduce new mechanics and attempt to improve on whatever games came before. If every game was limited to only what the first game in the series contained, a lot of sequels wouldn’t be very good.

Are there any HUD/GUI/video gamey elements that can’t be explained by 47’s abilities or intel he’s receiving from Diana? I now feel the need to eliminate them if they exist.

No, he had the ability, in-universe; we players just didn’t see it. It didn’t translate into the experience in a way that we got to see. But, 47 still knew where to go and when his targets would appear in an area, and we players were still able to see where they were to a limited degree by their markers on the maps, so that was the equivalent at the time. But 47 was still looking and listening and feeling and presumably even sniffing very carefully to learn who was who and what was what and which was where.

Sure, i was just jesting since the tutorial takes place in 1999, before his adventures in H2SA etc etc.

So Diana stating he had the ability during the tutorial, means he then lost if after for the first games :stuck_out_tongue:

Its clearly just a gameplay decision, and then the dialogue got entered in.

That was by satelitte as Diana explained in H2SA.

Nothing like the instinct ability.

Again, its simply just a gameplay feature that got added, and then the diana line in the tutorial to explain it.
