Official: H3 Freelancer Closed Technical Test feedback Thread (CTT)

Yeah, I figured as much.

Bollocks. There goes my plan on using this classic-referring classification in my own review… (still might use it regardless, lol) Also, having read your review, this appears to be one of those rare instances where you and I find ourselves agreeing on something

I’m not gonna argue with you, but I have different taste of things. It’s my thoughts and respect your opinion even I don’t agree at all on some of them.

Isn´t the challenge about loosing a cumulative of 500 with all loses counting ?

I have reached mastery level 25 after 14 hours of gamplay, satisfying experience so far. The only bug I faced is when I dropped a sniper riffle on the rooftop of safehouse (where 47 could take out a binoculars), the sniper vanished and returned to the basement. Understanding this is the beta test and there will be a lot more features in the full release, I would like to see these in 2023:

  1. Home invasion events like John Wick 1;
  2. Purchasing gears at the safehouse;
  3. Gathering intel in missions (llike evidence in Hitman Absolution, paying Mercs for intel) before showdown & interogating syndicate members, which allows us to identify target/ assassin/ lookouts in the showdown.
  4. Beta tester suit :grinning:
  5. Crafting items at the garden shed (same as Ambrose Island, gunpowder + rubberduck + fuse cell = remote rubber duck explosive. Recipe to be acquired in mission)
  6. Passive income from the stock market. Otherwise the vault is useless.

That is not a bug, everytime you drop something from the basement it will automatically get back there

While I don’t agree on a couple of points (timed objectives mostly, I find most of them fine although they might need some tweaking), I think this is a pretty good summary and I hope IOI takes a look at it.

Small bug I found: I took a rusty old nail outside the house and apparently I can’t throw it away, which forces me to have two extra gear slots in the inventory before leaving the safehouse, I had to drop another object to start the mission.

As you can see, it is not a thing of the outside zone since the other tools can be dropped.

offtopic

I forgot to open Throttlestop before taking the screenshot, that’s why the laptop temperatures are so high. It’s normal, it’s not a thing of this game, if anyone wonders.

edit: I just saw @sleepey mentioned it too.

Lol okay, that makes it better, thanks… I would still prefer them changing it, but knowing this I will probably still have a laugh :relaxed:

I don’t think so. The picture doesn’t show accumulated loss, while other challenges that are based on accumulation show it.

I agree with everything about this to the point youve robbed me of the need to post about it lol

I dont think silent assassin should matter but rather there should be raised stakes for killing suspects. Because shouldnt they if they know suspects are being killed tighten security or flee?

I guess that is the point… they tell us in the trailer how syndicates infiltrate the normal people, sooooo the immersion is actually spot on (I just don’t understand if you mean their appearances or them being selected from the classic NPC tho, because I have seen targets with new and random routes appear)

The biggest problem with this is that the objective would have a too big line on the side (since they should the payout) and your overall mercs would also be super long… also, since it is supposed to be untraceable, above law currency it make way more sense for it to be valuable and scarce… their would be no point of making this currency if it would just have the same value as normal money (also imagine buying a wrench at 7000 a piece :rofl::rofl:)

I would love something like that too. Now the problem is that it would be unfair for new players and most of all those not chosen by IOI… they don’t get to playtest AND don’t get a suit… man, that would be crazy (I can only imagine the sadness)

The issue is that Silent Assassin exists to make sure civilian casualties aren’t a thing, and that there’s some semblance of a puzzle going on, something is markedly not bullshit to implement. I understand people want a more freeform game mode, but as soon as you’re not punished for even basic things like civilian casualties and non-target kills, then it becomes less a stealth game, and more a proper murder simulator your grannie talks about. I have 1600+ hours in WOA, these kinds of restrictions are there to give the game purpose, and not to hurt the player.

Don’t get me wrong, S/A is a tad too restrictive in the base game (getting caught trespassing voids it, for example when it really shouldn’t), but overall, it’s a pretty good system. The lack of variety of weapon use is not solely dictated by S/A, as you seem to be implying, but their uses in a run.

I know this seems to be the unpopular opinion on the thread, but to say that S/A is BS is just not true.

I don’t agree at all. It maybe works for campaign or contracts, but because of that you start realise that you don’t use 90% of equipment because of Silent Assassin. I can’t use a C4 because for sure someone will be killed or body will be found. Only one explosive what you can use is a Breaking Charge or/and Gas Tank to have SA. And I don’t want that! I want set C4 and kill a target from distance or make a Proximity Mine when he enter bathroom to vomit and get a payment for job done and having fun of it. Silent Assassin as a prestige status is ok, but there shouldn’t be any penalty for not doing that.

I want to have fun and with Silent Assasin you are restricted to not use most of equimpent. Of course you can set C4 in small room but after that you need to run there, hide body before anyone came there and get out. This is stupid - what assassin do that?!

I don’t like how SIlent Assasin works right now, it should be a specific requiment for a specific contract not a overall restriction, because I want somethimes act like a typical high profile hiredgun and don’t care about that body is found. And maybe client want to make a public execution? Hitman is a immersive game for me with elements of puzze, I don’t want to be always forsed to do SA because if I don’t = instant penalty.

That’s why I’m very happy how it works in Freelancer. You get reward if you met requirements not by doing Silent Assassin, but you can add as prestige objective if you like - and that is totally fine!

Absolutly TRUE, SA is important and in the base game it make a lot of sense since you can play the missions endlessly and after some time get it.

Freelancer on the other hand is better without it cause it would make the mission sooo hard and not fun, because repetitive SA is just not fun and doing some rampage from time to time always spice up the gameplay… now the showdowns kinda orient the player to a Silent routing cause lookout can rip campaigns very easily if you fell too much in love with the careless approach. So S is still part of Freelancing.

So, we are approaching the end of CTT, so here are my experiences so far; also I’m not going to boast about the goods, I’d rather keep the focus on stuff, that could potentially make it better:

Punishment:
I agree with loosing some money and gear, but losing tools that can be used multiple times, is a little too much. (I mean a crowbar, wrench, lockpick, screwdriver , dartgun can be used multiple times)
I think it would be better, if the player would get either a chance of buying a retry upon failing or a chanche to buy back the items. If the player has no merces, then ofc, it’s back to 0.

Safehouse:
First of all, I’ve encountered several bugs:
decorating options showed up as unlocked, despite they were locked; and me, an idiot tried to decorate, which soft locked the game. Quitting to main menu then load back fixes the problem.
The lightning seems to be broken at the basement, especially at nighttime, but not exclusively.
Second:
I appreciate the safehouse, but I just don’t get it. What’s the point, if you can’t do anything meaningful besides decorating, or some blending in actions?
There’s no option to visit other players, there are no other npcs to make it lively; it’s just feels empty for me.
Third:
Once I unlocked the motorbikes and a secondary option for the car, the outro cutscene sometimes got confused, showing the base car, instead of the vehicle of my choice.

The freelancer:
Most of the bugs were dialouges cutting short and sometimes constant disconnecting/reconnecting.
I think it’s very good, but after a while it became way too repetitive, but I guess it’s because the maps were locked.
I like most of the maps, but playing Berlin, or Paris for a 100th time, makes me bored.
I don’t like the fact, that the intel is randomly generated and it’s not researched by 47. It would freshen up things, not only just repeating of a set of assasinations with challenges.
Also, challenges (killing a 1000 syndicates in no joke, I’m only at 40). They are very glitchy: sometimes they show up as failed, but getting payed anyway, or completed, but not getting payed. Also these challenges sometimes contradicts others, so at times completing all the challenges is impossible.
Also some of the prestige challenges should be more elaborate of how they can be unlocked (collateral damage with a 1 second counter? and never showing up as completed?)
Finally, I appreciate the new looks for targets, but they should have some dialouges, I think. (besides the generic ones)
Oh, the assasins needs a little tweak too, they are way too obvious, and way too close to the targets/suspects…

Loading screens:
I find them good, but there are some, that are just… bad. most of the close shots with 47’s face are.

Music:
It’s fantastic, especially the one that plays outside of the safehouse!

As for story:
I think it could benefit some extra bits, because now the only difference between the missins, is the titles of the books. There are no indication of ‘sick games’ or ‘espionage’ or whatever. All of them are the same, sometimes the game renders the same npc as target…

All in all I’m giving a 8/10 so far!

And that is something what I like that the most. They are very minimalistic, without patos, epicness. It’s dark, grim and show 47 focused. It’s very immersive for my taste. Done in old fashion way like 47 what we know from ealier games. Bring me mories to loading screens from Hitman Contracts <3
