I was expecting that if you load the map again maybe then it would disappear.
There will probably be more important issues with bugs/quality but this one seems like an easy fix,
It’s just probably not enough people will be concerned about this one for them to change that
Maybe the yellow locks will vanish without any pomp or ceremony a couple months into the game with patch 2.1.
I see these similar to Mastery unlocks, except specifically linked to the level based on what you did in the level, rather than a new stash point in an unrelated spot.
I can’t see how anyone would be upset over the feature. If you’re not a fan of the permanent unlock, I guess you could avoid using it until you get to the ‘unlock’ spot in a playthrough as personal challenge
I wonder if we’ll be allowed to save our favourite starting locations now
People are afraid the shortcuts will be too easy. Think the keycard locked door to the virus lab in Sapienza by the rocks. If that door was always locked from the inside and could not be opened until you go to it from the inside, and then it was always an open door, it would not be fun or make sense. I must admit I have my doubts about it not being like this, but most of us are hopeful it’s more like if the back drain pipe in Paris was not usable from the bottom until you first got to the top floor and “opened” it.
now if they would do something about the pea shooter silenced weapon sounds
oh yeah, I can almost guarantee that won’t change
Yeah but I saw a guy boot up Dubai and he didn’t have to change his starting location to the suit one.
Really not a fan of these shortcuts, there’s one at the side of the club in Berlin and it’s just open all the time, it defeats the need to have a lockpick or crowbar, or at least there could be a guard there to sneak past
It doesnt defeat anything. It’s just a normal route that isn’t open on your first playthrough.
I suppose my issue with them, without having played the game yet, is that it means we go from a really limited route (first playthrough), to a way too open one (after first playthrough)- as opposed to the compromise we had in the previous games when routes where accessible with a tool. A good example is the ladder to the hill in Mumbai, you have to shoot the ladder to get it down; I think that is way more preferable than never being able to use it or the ladder permanently being open (as would be the case if Mumbai was a H3 level).
Think of it this way:
The first playthrough is the limited route, and the subsequent ones are the map IO originally designed but then locked a few ladders etc behind a feature.
I hope that is the case, however given what @BEowen has said, I will remain sceptical until playing
Has anyone found any persistent shortcuts in the Legacy maps?
Normally, there are no shortcut in Legacy maps.
Alright, thanks!..
So what are peoples initial thoughts on the shortcuts?
From what I’ve seen…I’m not a fan.
I enjoyed the system in 2016 and 2018, whereby you essentially unlocked optional shortcuts through mastery. Then, every play through of the mission, you can decide - you want the lockpick, place a breaching charge in a stash point and start in a secure location already dressed as a guard.
Right there, is a well created system whereby you devise your own shortcuts and they are created individually every time.
The persistent shortcuts I’ve seen, and I’ll admit I haven’t seen all of them so this may be more of an individual critique of their use in specific missions, they almost make the mission too easy. I understand these are still optional, but I find it hard to play as 47, sneaking past 4 guards to obtain a key to unlock a door, when I know I’ve already unlocked a ladder which i already walked past 4 times that’ll get me where I want to go far easier.
Can I ignore the ladder, sure.
Is 47 an idiot for doing so? Yes.
All of that can be negated if the option to unlock that ladder/door was a choice I made at the start of the mission depending on my load out and starting location.
Everyone else’s thoughts?
I am fine with the ladder ones (except in Dartmoor where it aesthetically doesn’t fit the architecture of the building) but I really don’t like the door ones that are just permanently open.
Why would the nightclub have an open, unguarded door right there? Why would that area in Chongqing have an open unguarded door right near such a highly secure area?
I get that this game is trying to make your first playthrough fundamentally different than replays and I am fine with it, just wish it was handled a bit better, mostly with the doors. Why not make them closed doors or preferably locked closed doors that are just normal locks after we bypass the shortcut solution in earlier playthroughs.
From what I’ve seen, these are a real mixed bag - with the worst I’ve seen being the door on Berlin.
Essentially IO have made it so that after your first play through, this club in Berlin essentially has an unguarded hole in the wall for literally every other time you play the game.
If this wasn’t a shortcut, and was just an open doorway that was placed there, we’d all be in agreement that is poor level design - of just having a hole into the club 20 feet away from a secure entrance.
For a game that thrives on replayability, these shortcuts, in my opinion completely ruin the balance of future playthroughs.
If I knew how ridiculous that Berlin door made the mission, I’d have left it locked and never opened it.
