Season of Sloth | Roadmap

That was a fun one.

Literally 2 minutes lol

Far more interesting in terms of replayability compared to the H3 ones.

Dumb how lol

Not important at all.

Nah 2016 had the most interesting escalations by far.

We clearly have very different ideas of those concepts.

Clearly. My focus is on the gameplay, which escalations are by design: pure gameplay.

Yours is if it fits the theme or if stuff ā€œmake senseā€.

Yes, but you also seem focused on a specific type of game play that I am not. I’ve seen a few replies of yours to mine and they all seem (to me) to be rebuttals based on a type of play that I simply don’t do. You even have a community with your name in it that is all about speed running. You look for ways to ā€œcheatā€ the game (that isn’t a bad thing, I just can’t think of a better word) in order to shave off seconds from a map run. This type of play style necessarily lends itself to looking for very specific elements in a map or escalation that I would hate.

I didn’t find the majority of the original Hitman 2016 escalations enjoyable at all. Most of them had incredibly arbitrary restrictions that required very tedious (to me) solutions in order to get that coveted Silent Assassin rating. Many of them were just doing the same thing 3 (or 5) times which isn’t fun (again, to me).

I’m delighted that there is more than one way to play this game. I have nowhere near the level of dedication required to whittle down a map to the speed that you guys do. I’d rather spend a half hour observing and skulking in bushes than running around the way you guys do. I’m glad that you all do it and I’m happy to split the opinion, but your play style is absolutely not mine.

I thought the exact same thing!

Looking forward to getting them Elusive Targets. Nearly there for 47’s signature suit with gloves

3 more to go! (And for me, one more Silent Assassin for the Winter Suit, please, after I messed up SA on The Iconoclast and The Black Hat.)

Us: So, there’s a Goldballer. That’s cool. Gimme.
IOI: Sure thing! Here’s another escalation where you can use it.
Us: No, as an unlock. It looks cool and we want it.
IOI: Ah, yes. We’ve heard you. It’s VERY high on the list.
Us: There’s still no unlock for 40 featured contracts.
IOI: …
IOI: …
IOI: Check this out! The Rubber Ducky Baller!

Well, my count has been reset to ā€˜0’ and that gun hasn’t even unlocked. :expressionless:

Just because i’m a speedrunner doesn’t mean that i solely look at it from a speedrun pov, i look at the entire gameplay as a whole which goes beyond that (allthough there are overlaps). Stuff like replayability, target placements, routes etc.

I feel that way about the H3 escalations. They are linear (and thus no replayability) and handholdy, with themes being more important than the actual gameplay.

Escalation were pure gameplay by design though, 2016 escalations offered lots of unique gameplay complications that can’t be found anywhere else in the game, big part of what made them enjoyable and interesting. They don’t need to make sense.

Fair enough and likewise. Imo it goes beyond playstyle though: it’s which aspects of the game you put the most value on, which for me would be the gameplay. As i said, these two overlap, but aren’t entirely the same.

I’m not going to outwardly criticise the roadmap, but apart from the sin and the ET the content is really dissapointing. The ducky gun is f/a, and that is poor compared to the DAK so I’ll almost never use it. While I’m happy that Frotes community gets some featured contracts, the rest is just ā€˜filler’ content- the Twins and sapienzas rotation. No extra escalations either, and while they were being criticised that doesnt mean we dont want a replacement! Once again, I’ll say that I’m not angry or unreasonably judging this roadmap, I just find the content quite dissapointing. Hopefully there’ll be something for Lust, thats what clemens and Travis said anyways. And I don’t understand why they scrapped challenge packs, those were actually fun to complete!

Many were skeptical about the many free Escalations and the Sin content not being worth it.
It is very possible this is the result of that. More effort in other content (sins and whatever they plan with what they teased on stream) on the expense of the basic escalations we got.

Sloth is the worst Escalation yet, i have 0 fun with it. Pride was nice and entertaining and Greed was boring.

So far they are really hit and miss and I’ll think twice buying IOs DLC from now on.

Conceptually it’s good, but in execution it lacks what made the Pride escalation good. The biggest thing that hinders it is the vitality meter and the vitality meter alone since it’s essentially just a glorified timer.

The Pride Escalation offered branching choices and was built upon how you played and Greed was at its core just a fetch quest.

As it should be. While we all are fans we can distinguish what IO can do good and what they can do bad. While we all have our own ideal types of content I do think Premium DLC Escalations don’t work largely from the longevity of it. I spend 5-15 minutes with these escalations and never touch them again.

Sins so far have proven to be a inconsistent piece of content with only one of the three being received well. This is something IO should take into account to figure out what works and what doesn’t.

I would have preferred to see one or even multiple Mini Stories, like Patient Zero, i feel like it was more worth its money so far - but i hope this Sloth Escalation was just the sad low point of the 7DS.

It would be nice if the vitality meter builds up while you just wait. Very slowly. It would force the players to either have a great time (and more points) or play it safe and end the level with more vitality.

The new challenges will show as 0 completed until you play/replay a Featured Contract. After completing it, it will update to your actual total.

It didn’t for me. After replaying a completed one, it changed to ā€˜1’. After completing a new one, it just changed to ā€˜2’.

Edit: As mentioned by myself and others in the bug thread, some of us are missing more than just the new duck gun. Notably, the Remote Semtex Demo Block MK III.

Odd. I’m in the same boat with the missing Semtex Block and Duck Gun, but when I replayed the ā€œToodles Noodlesā€ FC (or whatever it’s called), my count for the new challenges all updated to 38.

I was gonna comment this; anyone who remembers my rantings knows Escalations are my second-least favourite content type (behind Challenge Packs), but I still prefer them to nothing!

Plus if I ever figure out how to make ā€˜modded’ contracts in H3 then even boring escalations can be used as the basis for good contracts if they have a mandatory entrance or something like that

If so I’d put this as another novice communication move by IO; we’d feel a lot better if they said ā€œYou’re getting something big and cool but it means this season is a bit quietā€, but they haven’t. They said a ā€˜permanent event’ is coming, but 1) they didn’t say it was the result of resources being shifted away from escalations, and 2) I think a lot of us are expecting this new thing to not be very impressive
