(Spoilers) 007 First Light Discussion Thread

@Guillermo_Murillo roadmaps started a month after launch for both Hitman 2, and Hitman 3.

Hitman 3 stood by itself for this month.
Hitman 2 released with the Undying ET during the middle half it, and it was announced.
Hitman 2016 released its first additional content, an escalation, five days after launch, but the release model was fundamentally different, episodic and without roadmap-as-they-are-now at first.

007 First Light is a completely different kind of game though.

@thrison in fairness: Hitman WoA is three games core-designed-to-be-replayable, 11 years worth of content, and an Evergreen game mode.
And even then before Freelancer it had around 1500-2000 concurrent players on steam.
A third to a quarter to its current one.

(Which begs the question as to why they never expanded on Freelancer, wink wink, Lessons Learned Campaign as a 4.99 paid DLC, nudge nudge, IOI)

As for the 1.06: it looks like an important, if unsaid, part of it was to change the logo textures of the Works & Arts Museum across the entire Uninvited level.
Computer wallpapers, patches on uniforms, wall inserts, banners… all were changed.

Presumably they had a issue with the previous logo being too close to the one of the real life Victoria and Albert Museum.

But yes, it’s starting to be long.
Maybe IOi wants to start at the start of a month. Who knows.
I’m mostly curious to see what the rhythms of content release will be.

Nooooo! This new logo is horrible! Seems like they must have received a legal threat and had to rush to replace it. What a shame. Ideally, they would have replaced it with something sufficiently distinct but while retaining a degree of elegance.

And in the next patch the museum logo will be changed again due to slight similarities with the North Face logo!

The new The Workshop escalation is quite… an uninspired piece of content.

Its just the exact same thing as that section of the campaign, except this time its mandatory to eliminate all seven of the enemies rather than just enough to be able to slip through the doors. And then higher tiers just slap some gamechangers on it.

And thanks to @thrison announcing that this damned thing was back on Twitch, I unlocked the drop, like I inexplicably couldn’t last month. Already have the suit through purchase, but that’s beside the point, I didn’t like that the percentage bar stopped filling. This time it completed.

Same here, the first go around the Stream I was watching stopped when I was around the 25% mark but finally acquired the damn thing, not that I’m probably going to use it much but it’s the principal of the matter, with the said I do wish it was a little more like Hitman by NOT showing the suits you’ve haven’t unlocked.

Started 007 First Light! Woo! First impressions:

  • Very cinematic presentation compared to Hitman’s gameplay-centric levels vs story-heavy cutscenes between levels…
Kinda scratches that Uncharted itch I had recently.
  • The gameplay as Bond is very fluid, love how quick he dashes between cover and you can jump over small gaps. Still feels a little rigid like it’s shaking off the robotic inputs from Hitman, but impressively fluid for it when you can chain a few agility moves together.
  • The plot being very modern is quite cool. Nice trick having the 1st mission guards have Biometrically Linked guns just so they dont have a gun tutorial alongside the stealth/melee. I’m sure I’ll see those fancy guns again later…
  • The training montage was stellar. No idea how the game loads each new scene so fast (at least on drives not comparable to the PS5), especially if they’re all in-engine I believe… the story kept moving and you kept getting gameplay tutorials in short bursts. Nice!
  • The Club in chapter 6 is so cool. The way Bond moves through the crowd is so cool as is all the lighting effects and music… wow they topped Berlin.
  • Using the ā€œHitmanā€ control preset so sprint is on L1 and ā€œObject Highlightā€ is on R1. Melee feels a little weird, like there’s no camera-lock-on? But I just need to get used to it.
  • I also like the little narrative bits where you can ask characters certain things in optional dialogue. Adds some personal agency to scenes like that. :+1:
  • Also, who needs the Classic Tuxedo, there’s like 5 tuxedos in the game already! And one of them is black!

In terms of the bad:

  • I have no idea why that ā€œLOOK - R Stickā€ prompt appears so often when you do an interaction and the camera has to zoom in on Bond. You can move the camera like 2cm up down left or right, but… it’s not like there’s anything to see with it! I don’t need to know I still have some ā€œcontrolā€ of the camera in those bits because they’re often so short!!
  • I recognize a few suits in the Menu as the Coca Cola promo suits. And they’re locked. And they’ll stay locked unless you get a specific physical version or physical product promo in a specific country and… God, why show those off IOI, if the means to acquire them are SO specific and Not In The Game!? It’s not like they’re DLC you can get on the store, I don’t need to see them!

Y’know, I’m surprised no one has mentioned any issues about the shooting mechanics on here, specifically for the aim reticle. Zero 007 results on this forum if I search ā€œreticleā€! Really??

Got to the airport shootout from the original demo, and man I’m struggling. Not only from damage taken, but just missing targets! The reticle is a tiny thin grey oval which blends into dark surfaces and especially if using Instinct which turns the screen grey…

Honestly I’ve gotten so annoyed on my (edit Over 10 at least) attempts so far that I decided to submit a report to the zendesk. (Not bug report, but ā€œGameplay Inquiryā€ since I guess that categorizes it better)
I guess I shouldn’t be surprised since Hitman doesn’t have any reticle customization, but man, it also doesn’t have lots of common-place accessibility options like colourblind filters! Get with the times, IOI! And at least Hitman has a distinct white T-shape, never fails!

Is it just me? Where I’m sitting like, 8 feet away from my 40" TV? The reticle is just so small!

I found this quite funny in the first field test mission at the club, where you can sneak past a guard by picking up a drink tray to pretend to be a waiter. Literally just walk up and take it, no extra clothes needed.

ā€œDisguisesā€ tutorial prompt popped up and I thought: is that correct? I’m a random guy just stealing this tray!

Nope! Thank god Bond chose to wear black pants and a white t-shirt, 'cause that’s exactly the ā€œbar serviceā€ dress code!

It’s funny how many interactions and ā€œdisguisesā€ I’ve had so far where Bond just Charisma’s his way into convincing someone he’s who they’re looking for.
Like at the chess tourney, he doesn’t get out of his Chauffer outfit and still manages to convince someone he’s the hotel manager, even saying ā€œgo get a drink on the houseā€ as thanks for the info.

Still enjoying the game, still having trouble with the shooting reticle, just finished the Aleph market area, impressed there’s like 5 ways to earn big money. Trying to be stealthy rather than loud. I failed at the shooting gallery and Cups a few times so I think I finished 4 objectives to get the 100K. Feel like you can get it in 3 at least.
Also was that Dimitri Vegas as the DJ having issues just before you get into the auction area? Looks similar to his Hitman model and special attention was focused on helping him out for no reward when you could have just walked past him and continue the story, seemed odd.

Also the Flash Mine gadget is overpowered in stealth. It’s an instant knockout on an enemy? Wow. (Guess it needs to feel different from the Smoke Bomb)

It doesn’t help for disguising as a manager.

But I find it adorable that IOI took the time to have multiple NPCs wearing similar styled Nehru jackets to make it more believable for Bond to pass as a guest.

They couldn’t afford to have Bond disguise in different outfits in these sections of story mode because the character artists’ time was already pre-budgeted for creating a bunch of useless TacSim items that we’re all not going to whore ourselves out to collect, right?

[stares hard at all the HMF-ers who didn’t learn the lessons of WoA FOMO syndrome]

How does the TacSim assistance thing work?

tired of all these celeb cameos smh… /s

It’s going to be a moving [presumably] prop in the Lobby (aka fancy menu screen) for TacSim, so functionally it will have no effect on your gameplay whatsoever.

IOI are still doing Wishlist milestones?

The games already out theres no way this isn’t just to please higher ups somehow or have an excuse to delay already finished content :sob:

@IOI_Artjoms Please tell me they’re a real pet and not painting hung up! :pink_heart:

(also is your first stream back next week?)

Notice how they’ve not put any sort of number on what needs to be hit? Its because its going to happen either way. I don’t believe for a second that its a real milestone and its just going to get shoved in when they want to.

Also, a post-launch wishlist milestone is just weird. Wouldn’t they rather people buy the game than put it on a meaningless list?
