I’m not sure how small they were but here in the US, those (might) be called crayfish, crawfish or crawdads.

Definitely would’ve been crayfish. Kinda envy you, always wanted to see some live ones in their natural habitat. They were apparently plentiful in the brook and river in my hometown, but that must’ve been at a time when the water in both was crystal clear. Which was way before my time I’d say…
The place looks pretty calm and picturesque in a way. Kinda makes me miss the small town European life even…

If I ever manage to get over to Germany I will certainly try to look them up. At the moment I don’t even have a passport (it expired several years ago) and have no travel plans to speak of.

It’s also very different from villages from Romania. You still hear someone talking or screaming. Here it’s dead silent. You hear more planes and crows than people but I don’t mind
