So, with the recent trailer for 007 First Light and the lively discussions it has sparked, I figured we could use a dedicated thread for the 007 franchise as a whole. I´m sure there´s quite a few Bond fans around here (myself included), mainly of the films, so feel free to use this thread to discuss those, the books, or previous 007 games. (Personal rankings of the movies are especially encouraged)
From Russia with Love is my fav Connery. Skyfall is my fav Craig. Spy who Loved my is my fav Moore although I have a soft spot for Man with the Golden Gun, but Goldeneye is my fav overall. Brosnan had a tough job of not being as light hearted as Moore in his take on Bond, but also the darker Bond Dalton tried hadn’t worked either (world just wasn’t ready for it yet). I believe he threaded that needle and got us back to a Connery like Bond while still making the role his own and Goldeneye was the very best of the films he was in. Sean Bean had a lot to do with that. He was actually on the short list to play Bond but Brocoli said “no blonde bond,” which obviously she changed her mind on later
I guess just to finish it off Licence to Kill is the better of the two Daltons and OHMSS is everyone’s fav and least fav Lazenby
Sheriff J.W. Pepper is the best side character in the whole Bond mythos.
I’m really due to give all the films another watch. Here’s my tier ranking. Really though, a lot of them could change depending on how I feel, I generally like most Bond films.
The Connery films are getting a 4K release which is great. All the Craig films are available in 4K, so hopefully is just a matter of time until all the other movies get the 4K treatment.
I always love cars in movies, especially Bond franchise! So here are some random facts I knew about.
Here’s the beautiful Toyota 2000GT Convertible in You Only Live Twice. The convertible has only 2 examples. It normally has a top but Sean Connery was too tall to fit in. So they had to remove the top specially for the film production. It’s also a rare Bond car where Bond doesn’t get to drive himself.
We have got to experience Casino Royale in WoA recently. So here’s the Aston Martin DBS in that film where Bond crashes to avoid Lynd on the road. The filming crew couldn’t flip the car successfully with a ramp, so they had to use an air cannon to perform this record-breaking stunt.
That’s all for now. Maybe I will do a ranking for Bond cars specifically later. But for now, drive safe. Don’t drive like Bond does!
Nice list! My tier ranking would actually be very similar to yours, with the notable exceptions of having Thunderball in my top 5 instead of OHMSS, and Die Another Day (which is a sort of guilty pleasure of mine) in the middle category instead of No Time to Die.
But yeah, while I have a pretty firmly established top 10, the individual ranking of some others - especially the Moore ones - may vary based on how I feel. Usually true whenever I re-watch the entire series.
Indeed. Brosnan/GoldenEye hit the perfect balance between a series modernisation and feeling like classic Bond. Since Brosnan had to opt out on The Living Daylights due to Remington Steel, I wonder if he would´ve lasted in the role past Licence to Kill. Anyways, we got Dalton for two movies and I absolutely love both of them. It´s indeed interesting to see how the tone of Licence was ahead of the times (same goes for OHMSS) and would become the norm in the Craig era.
Like I said, I love them both. TLD is one of the few Bond films that feels like a proper Cold War spy flick, and while I used to dislike LTK when I was younger due to it not feeling like a Bond movie, it gradually became one of my favourites
For sure
Q and Jaws might disagree, but yeah, J.W. was the embodiment of the Moore-era comedic tone. I also have a soft spot for Wade from the first two Brosnan films.

My man Props especially for having Pam as one of the top Bond girls. She’s underappreciated as hell.
I grew up with the Pierce Brosnan bond films so I have always had a soft spot for those films. My favourite of his is probably Goldeneye but all 4 of us films have their own moments admittedly Die Another Day was probably his weakest.
I always loved the PlayStation games Agent Under Fire and Nightfire. Played them religiously as a kid. Stoked as hell to see what IO can do with First Light.
Was die another day the Halle Berry one with the invisible car?
Yea it wasn’t great. Goldeneye was tops and then the next best was the oil pipeline one with Sophie Marceau + Denise Richards (who were both pure🔥to 13 year old Yacob) , and then even the news one was better than Die Another Day.
Don’t know if it’s just me, but I find it near impossible to watch every single Bond Film.
Connery:
GoldFinger and From Russia with Love
Haven’t watched Lazenby’s outing.
Moore:
Man with a Golden Gun. Everything else I found to not really gauge me.
Dalton:
No complaints from me for his two films.
Brosnan:
Goldeneye and that’s its.
Craig:
I’ll die on this hill, but because of the reboot and connected narrative he’s the most interesting exploration of the character and while his fourth movie is the jumping of the shark moment for his Bond. I stand by the Craig doesn’t have a terrible film. No Time to Die was an end of an era for me and seeing that send off genuinely made me sad.
Amazing news for Bond fans - other than the Dune films (whose failure I’m putting down to unfilmably-boring source material), Denis Villeneuve has never put a foot wrong in his career to date.
Don’t know what you’re talking about here, as they are both critical and commercial successes.
I thought they were nonsensical bilge, therefore a failure IMO. I also think the same about the entirety of Star Wars content in all mediums; must be something about me and space operas.
Admin? I think we need an instant ban here…
I didn’t like the Dune-Movies. But then again: I’ve only seen them on a tiny screen on a plane with bad sound and half asleep.
Oooh, I want those top two as unlocks for WoA. Without the blood stains on the white one or the backpack on the blue one.
