As an American I’m winning cause Nintendo can’t take away my DS
One interesting thing to note is that Nintendo is seemingly going to keep making Amiibos. With the launch of the Switch 2, and the end of the Smash Bros line, I was wondering if they would quietly retire Amiibos. But no, 3 figures and some cards to tie in with Street Fighter 6. 4 new figures for the 4 champions in Tears of the Kingdom, plus another figure for Miru’s Construct later on, which is hinting to be a bit bigger than the standard Amiibo.
So yeah, neat Nintendo are still doing these. They’re nice bits of merchandise. Will be very interesting if Smash 6 is announced and Nintendo decides, like with Smash Ultimate, to make an Amiibo for every new Fighter.
Does the Switch 2 still have a NFC reader in its controller? I guess that would be a major indication that amiibo production and support has no plans of going away yet!
In terms of them as digital keys to unlock content or provide a boost, they’re a bit gimmicky and a hassle to always have around if you want it. But in terms of display figures they’re still pretty neat.
I’m still holding out hope for the Kirby (Kirby Series) amiibo to get re-produced again, he’s just so cute on the Warp Star I love the design.
Cool that they’re still doing third-party collabs too. I wonder if there’s a rule on what can/can’t be an amiibo or how it links with the game its from (I’m not sure, do the figures from Street Fighter or Shovel Knight have support in their own games?)
I feel like we might get at least one third party collab that’s an utterly bonkers amiibo set. Like, Cyberpunk for instance. I could see Nintendo throw them a bone. (Also, like, is the Switch 2 really gonna be able to run it? I’ve heard even today’s PS4 version is still very janky compared to next-gen and PC.)
If I had to guess, I think it might be just a lack of interest from other publishers. The profit margin may not be very high if the company has to give a cut to Nintendo for making and distributing the Amiibo. That and why have Nintendo make our merch when we can get other companies do it for a lot less?
It is interesting what third party Amiibos exist outside the Smash line. Dark Souls, Diablo 3, and Mega Man 11 each got an Amiibo as part of a limited release of their respective games.
Monster Hunter is the most prolific 3rd party Amiibo line, 15 figures so far. Indeed it seems Capcom who are by far the most willing to work with Nintendo.
I’ve also found it very interesting that Pokemon has never really featured. The only Pokemon to get figures are to tie in with Smash, and one to tie in with the Detective Pikachu game. Makes me wonder if that’s some weird thing between Nintendo and The Pokemon Company. You’d think Pokemon amiibo to tie in with new Pokemon games like Sword and Scarlet would be easy money.
Man, i just want a Ganon amiibo ![]()

27 Legend of Zelda amiibos so far, and no pig Ganon. Maybe eventually?
Perhaps it’s the translation with how formal Japanese can be, maybe it’s Nintendo or their lawyers trying to be as crystal-clear as possible when speaking at official presentations, but it’s really funny how incredibly obvious they need to spell things out at times.
(Just continuing on catching up with the Switch 2 Direct…)
Announcer: This is Nintendo Switch 2: Welcome Tour! Exclusive to Nintendo Switch 2!
(*you don’t say…?
)
[showcase on Welcome Tour ends]–
Tetsuya: Now, I’d like to share more information on Nintendo Switch 2…
(*said during the livestream titled Nintendo Switch 2…)
Though who could forget the iconic line:
The Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Booster Course Pass - Wave # for the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe game, is speeding onto Nintendo Switch [Date Here]…
ahhh, sickeningly-specific wording announcements, I hope you never change… ![]()
Also, I just realized, the Switch 2’s screen is going to be bigger than the Steam Deck OLED’s… ooh!
(7.9 inches in NS2 vs 7.4 for the Deck OLED // 7.0 for the LCD Deck)
A thought I just had: Is the C button on the Switch 2 the first time that a button on a controller is totally useless without paying an additional fee on top of the already high controller price?
Apparently for like the first year everyone can use it regardless of if you are a switch online subscriber but yeah I think it’s the first time a controllers had that
Out of how left-field Nintendo is known to make decisions, I sure didn’t have “inspired by the modern car market” on my bingo card.
(Now that you mention it, feels quite similar to like, “car seats have seat-warmers, but you need to pay a fee to turn on the setting” I heard of, for which car, I forget.)
Canada’s Switch 2 pre-orders have now been delayed as well as the USA’s. Apparently so that Canada’s pre-orders align that with the USA’s. Hopefully this is just to avoid Americans trying to buy the console in Canada, and this hopefully won’t mean Canada will suffer higher Switch 2 prices if the American price goes up due to Trump’s tariffs. Release date is still the same.
I’m more baffled in the fact they’re charging for really choppy discord features.
Got an email from Nintendo UK with an invite to pre-order that expires by midnight. Must admit, I’m tempted. But going to be strong and hold off on it.
Alrighty, Developments in regards to my DS Game Collection.
Initially I wanted to wait two months before investing in a copy of Mystery Dungeon Explorers of Sky…. Well.
A really good deal came my way and I didn’t pass it up. It essentially fast tracked my collection list to where now I’m down to only just two DS Games left.
Admittedly the list did expand, but it was mainly for some genre representation in the platform. That being said my 3DS list did expand aswell, but I’m throwing that on the back burner atleast until the summer, but that’s cause it expanded in a way to where its became its own separate thing.
Anywho. The final DS Games I plan on getting before I consider it complete for my personal collection is.
Mario 64 DS
Chrono trigger DS
Very nice collection, although if you do decide to get more DS titles, I’d say Sonic Rush is a must. Also, awesome you got the Tears of the Kingdom Switch.
So with the new switch, its safe too say there will be a new Smash Bros game, right?
What new characters and/or assist trophies you are hoping for?
I would love to see classic Ganon, wielding his Trident.
Scorpion from Mortal Kombat, maybe in Pixelated Sprite form, so it’s not too brutal.
Ark from Terranigma
I also hope we can get a Bower Junior without the Clown Car.
Smash ultimate switch 2 edition now with 10 more mii costumes alph as a echo fighter and 200% less waluigi
Or to actually be serious I’m probably one of the few people that doesn’t really mind who gets added I’m more curious about movesets maybe another character with more then two jumps?
or hat kid I like smacking people with umbrellas
The Hundred Line: Last Defence Academy comes out on Thursday, and it’s a game I’m rather hyped for. But you know who else is hyped for it? Masahiro Sakurai, who says that he barely knows anything about the game, but that’s because he wants to go into it as blind as possible.
Hundred Line is the game that is meant to have 100 different endings, and apparently all 100 are genuine, in-depth endings as well. Not simply 90+ glorified game over 10 second bad endings. Apparently the game is pretty hefty in size, so hefty that the devs have said they don’t want to state the game’s length in-case is frightens players. And the creators are betting on this title to do well, saying that if the game does badly, it could cause the studio to shut down.
Anyway, I’ll be buying this on launch. It’s coming out for Steam and Nintendo Switch, and there is a demo of the first couple hours on both platforms if you are interested.
