The Nintendo Thread

…no?
Might want to check your source on that.

Right now, even the official title is cryptic.
“The Sequel to the Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild”. Nintendo hasn’t made a peep about it recently.

I’m confused. I always assumed Skyward Sword was the sequel to Breath of the Wild.

Skyward Sword came out before Breath of the Wild, for the Wii. They recently gave it an HD port for the Switch last year, maybe that’s what you’re thinking of?

My dad is a legend.

Yesterday, I told him of a random sale on Mario Party Superstars at various local Costco’s I found on a deals forum. Half off, 40$.

He went to two Costcos today, they didn’t have it in stock anymore.
I told him “thanks for trying anyway” and left it at that.

An hour later, my dad texts back that he got it! The madman drove to a third store further away, and bought the final copy they had behind the counter!
(They were probably selling them so cheap to make room for Pokemon Arceus)

Gonna give him a huge hug this weekend lol :hugs:. He really went above and beyond. (I’m lucky that he’s retired and really likes driving, so it was probably a nice time for him driving around too)
I just got a recent, very well-received Nintendo game for half-price! Woo!

(Lol another post here from me, again about savings)
Saved some craaazy money on the new Kirby game (that also just launched today).

Gamestop had a ‘extra 50% trade-in value towards Kirby: Forgotten Land’ promo going on this weekend.

I was keen on turning in my Kirby Star Allies game that I’ve played most of what I wanted out of it.
(Say what you want about Nintendo refusing to price-drop their games, but it does keep resale value high.) Star Allies would have netted me 31$ normally, but with the extra 50%, it comes out to 46$.

In total, what would have costed me 90$ after tax ended up being around 37$. For a new Nintendo Switch game. :open_mouth:

Also obligatory Kirby --> Kirby trade-in meme

Is anyone play the new Mario Strikers game?
Started it yesterday, it’s pretty fun. Easy to learn, hard to master. The CPU is easy enough to beat, but have yet to win against a human opponent.

Nintendo Direct Mini (third-party edition) happening early tomorrow

Feels weird to not get a full one, since there’s still Mario Kart tracks to announce, the Switch Sports update in the summer, and details on Mario Strikers content, but I guess those will be randomly announced on twitter like in previous summers.

So, the big Nintendo one will happen after Splatoon 3 in September I bet.

Let it be known it’s will focus on 3rd Party releases and announcements so we can still get some cool stuff.

Seems like the big hope/rumours are for the Persona ports to head for the Switch. They’ve been announced for every other system barring the Switch thus far. And Red Dead Redemption 2, which would be impressive, especially if they port that without turning the Wild West into Silent Hill.

Hopefully some good stuff. But it does feel like 2022 isn’t going to be a huge year for Nintendo, hoping 2023 will be a bit of a bigger year for the company in terms of games.

I do not see this happening, but we also got the Witcher 3 so anything is possible if it’s ported right.

The Direct Mini was good. Not amazing. but it had some good third-party reveals

The concept of Mario + Rabbids still baffles me to this day (still need to buy it one day) but the sequel looks like fun for the fans and Ubisoft is doing a longer showcase of it tomorrow.

Maybe it was just IGN’s showcase this whole time because a new trailer for Sonic Frontiers came out and the internet is abuzz with praise and “it actually looks decent now?”

Nier Automata comes to Switch. (the way the announcer pronounced “Automata” was weird. I say “Aw-Taw-Muh-Ta”.)

BLANC looks cute LiveALive looks cool and a demo is out today

The Portal Collection is now on Switch. Yay.

And PERSONA series (the popular ones at least) is coming to Switch! Woooo

Nintendo have unveiled their first special edition OLED Switch console themed on Splatoon 3, as well as new Splatoon 3 Pro Controller and Switch case. Pretty gorgeous looking, these SEs seem to just keeping getting better and better. Damn, I wish those Joy-Cons could be bought seperately but it looks like that won’t be the case, outside of the likes of second hand places like eBay.

I want a second Pro Controller at some point so I’m actually probably going to buy this Splatoon 3 version when it comes out.

Adorable mini Kirby game that Nintendo just announced. Slated for Summer 2022 - though I wish they’d announce how soon that’d be. Still, more 30th Anniversary stuff is cool with me :stuck_out_tongue:
HAL is putting that new 3D engine to good use. Now we’ve got a Gourmet Race-like 3D title. Hopefully the price isn’t that high for the eShop, maybe 25$ or so? Could be a nice casual local/online game

Also, in one month, the 30th Anniversary concert will be streamed on Youtube. wooo

Bayonetta 3 finally has a release date: October 28th. Looks fun. Some fun tidbits about the game, there is a “Naive Angel Mode”, which lets Bayonetta keep her clothes on when she is doing her fancy moves, a mode that exists to avoid awkward questions when your Mum walks into your room while playing.

Interestingly as well, while Bayonetta 1 is on the Switch via digital download, Nintendo are going to release a limited physical run of Bayonetta 1 later this year. This is to tie in with Bayonetta 3’s special edition “Trinity Masquerade Edition”, which includes a 200 page artbook and 3 special cover sleeves, each for use of the 3 Switch covers of Bayonetta 1, 2, and 3. Interesting stuff, even more so considering that (at least in the UK), all physical copies of Bayonetta 2 come packed with a free digital code for Bayonetta 1. I guess good for those who really prefer physical copies, but does seem an inevitable to double dip.

Still haven’t played any Bayonetta. Bayonetta 2 (which includes 1) is still £50, and like most Nintendo games rarely goes on sale, with Bayonetta 3 also being £50. May wait for reviews on 3, then might jump on that and work my way backwards if I like that.

In rumours, so take this with a huge grain of salt: Eurogamer reporting from their source that all 3 Metroid Prime games are in the process of getting remastered. Prime 1 will be ready by Christmas this year, Primes 2 and 3 in 2023 seperately released, with Prime 1 receiving the most extensive remaster. Not sure how much Nintendo would be wanting per game, and very disappointing not for a simple Prime Trilogy Remastered re-release, but we shall see. I do think remastering Prime isn’t a bad idea, considering how old the games are at this point and to be build up hype for Prime 4.

a new Pokemon Presents happened this morning. New stuff coming to the mobile games and more details revealed about Scarlet & Violet

https://youtu.be/ojiBuA97rdc?t=557

I’m not much into Pokemon anymore, though the new games have always interested me in their locations and possible new gimmicks.

This one is going to be an open-world/open-ended adventure, where you can freely traverse the region without loading screens (apparently).
There’s also a new battle gimmick that crystalizes Pokemon to make them stronger and gives them a little crystal hat.
Personally I just don’t see the need in introducing a new battle gimmick every single game just to throw the previous one away, and so far all it’s really done (from my outside perspective) is just “pokemon but stronger”. Meh.

I’ll be interested to see reviews once it’s out, if there’s still some challenge curve to the gyms you tackle, how this Legendary-riding mechanic works (and why you seemingly get it so early?) and what there is to do overall.

8 days until the Kirby 30th Anniversary Concert stream. Neat that they’ll be livestreaming it for free.

? days until Kirby’s Dream Buffet comes out. August, a primarily summer month (for northern hemisphere people) feels like a good time to release it. But it would be weird that they wouldn’t have specified “August” instead of just “Summer” in the announcement trailer.

The Splatoon 3 Splatfest main theme has been revealed.

With this Traditional Festival-type theme and the Rock-influenced new style in all the marketing, the soundtrack to this game is gonna be so fun.

Also Splatoon 3 Direct happened.

Mostly half-intro for new players and half-new details on new mechanics, maps, modes, content.

3 way Splatfests, Cosmetic Locker Customization, 1v1 Card Game mode, and other QOL features seem to be the gist of new stuff.

A Spiel on the New Content as a Novice

As someone who owns Splat2, but is really not too good at it (I still havent played enough to unlock Ranked Mode where 4 other modes take place) the additions in 3 look like a lot of fun and a great way to keep bad players like me engaged.

The Main Campaign is just a lackluster, kinda glorified tutorial, so when that’s done, the multiplayer can just be a slog. Especially in this day and age where plenty of older players have UBER powerful items and know the game really well.
The new Locker and Nametag system is a great way to earn progress and customize something for myself in my own game, and the 1v1 card game is another great mode that I can get into when bored of the basic Turf Wars.

I do own Octo Expansion which I’ve heard a lot of praise for, but never got into.
I’ll probably try it one day soon, finish it maybe, then hopefully sell Sp2 to get into Sp3 fresh off the boat, on a price a bit lower than full-price new.

Kindof on the same boat as you @TheChicken. Own Splatoon 2, have put in a few hours into multiplayer and the single player. Like it, think it is fun, but not enough to really invest me, especially with Splatoon 3 on the horizon. I’ll probably pick it up at some point, maybe next year, but I’m not sure it is really the game for me.

Still hoping we hear about the rumoured Metroid Prime remasters.
