The Nintendo Thread

GBA 3DS VC are the rarest applications on the system hands down. Having a Ambassador 3DS system can range between $200-$1000. The novelty is cool but the asking price is too much.

So…

That was a very darn good Direct stream.

A freakin’ KIRBY ODYSSEY title?! Sign me he hell up. I haven’t even played Mario Odyssey, but from what I’ve seen an heard of the latter, this should be a great format for the pink puff.

I might actually get into Animal Crossing again. Haven’t touched that thing since January… And they’re finally adding everyone’s favourite Owl guy Brewster! Great start to an update!

KOTOR getting a switch port is interesting. Might pick it up one day, given the fact that I don’t have access to a PS5 and the Remake for the foreseeable future. KOTOR is the really good Star Wars game, right?

Mario Party looks neat. I’ve never owned one, but I’ve played a few and they’re usually fun. The last one was pretty limited, hopefully this gives nice satisfaction.
Also Mario-related, Mario Golf gets an update. Interesting… I’ve been eyeing New Pokemon Snap, might also see if I can get this one too…

Voice of Cards looks like another cool card-based RPG. I’ll definitely try the demo.

A Dying Light 2 Cloud Edition? I can understand. The OG Dying Light running on the Switch? I cannot.

Not exactly interested in the NSO expansion. None of the N64 titles have ever interested me, apart from maybe Mario64 and Zelda OOT, the latter I’ve experienced on the 3DS.

Wow I have like the opposite takes.

Kirby seems fine but not especially hyped.

Still very hyped for the new Mario Party and the NSO update was one of the most hyped parts of the direct for me, I love those titles and the only two I have no interest in are Mario 64 ( cause of 3D All Stars) and Ocarina because that’s a game where the 3DS one made the original obsolete. Whereas Star Fox 64 still has merit and worth and Majora 3D was terrible. I’m going to buy the new N64 controller even though I had no interest in the NES, SNES or even the new Megadrive controllers they made.

Don’t care much for Mario Golf but I main Koopa Troopa whenever I can. Good update.

Cannot believe we got Act Raiser again.

Also yeah KOTOR is good, so is KOTOR 2 which I hope gets a port.

It will down the road. Aspyr has been porting a lot of their mobile ports to switch. KOTOR 2 being one of them to eventually happen.

Thought it was worth bringing up that with the release of the OLED Switch, they are also going to sell the new dock they made for it by itself. They used to sell the old dock by itself ages ago but discontinued it. There have been a ton of third party docks hit Amazon but its never been a good idea to use them, mainly because of tech issues regarding the power outage. Nintendo uses a very weird power outage and the third parties don’t know how to replicate it exactly. It’s led to Switch consoles being bricked by an online update if they were in a third party dock at the time.

Problem is, Nintendo want Ā£60 for it, and I have no idea why such a thing should cost so much. It’s useful to have 2 docks even for just 1 Switch since if you own a second TV, it means you can set up 2 docks and can just put the Switch in whichever you like, something I would like to do in the future when I move house.

It’s funny in a way. At some point, I want to get a second dock at Ā£60, I want to get another pair of Joy Cons for Ā£65, not to mention a Joy Con grip to go with them for Ā£13. That comes to Ā£138. The OLED Switch is Ā£310, and the standard Switch is now Ā£260. So is it wrong of me where I feel like I should pick up a second Switch just to be more cost effective, even though I have no use to have a second Switch console?

I have to admit that I’ve not been on my own island (it’s called BowlingBro, btw) for 3 months, but man the upcoming free update and paid DLC looks very promising! A lot more customization option for both interior and exterior design! Many more activities will be available too. I am gonna tidy my island up for the update now! :star_struck:

I’ll admit this update video had me STUNNED. It’s so much! I was just expecting Brewster and some.new furniture, but there’s plenty of Quality of Life updates too, not to mention the sizeable expansion.

I haven’t touched my island since March, but I think I’m gonna get back into the groove of things very soon! Feeling motivated to re-structure my island now.

The DLC looks pretty big, and I like how it ties back into the main game with exclusive furniture and room decor, plus it being like a training mode for how to properly design a room!
I doubt I’ll be buying it at launch though.

I feel the same as well. It seems like the most content-rich update so far!

I logged on to check my island, thankfully the rating is still 5 star. I even had many unsold items like fossils in my inventory. I guess the last time I played the game, I was tired of the daily routine things I gave myself to do. It’s fantastic that there will be finally more stuff to do, and more reasons to visit Harvey’s island.

Nintendo, doing something weirdly pro-consumer and dropping the update a full 24 hours early?! Hell yeahhhh

Update out now. DLC not available to people who preordered yet. Seems like that’ll be on Nov 5 as planned.

It looks like besides some QoL updates, most new features will cost a little fortune, stuff like food recipe DIYs and changing island ordinances. Glad I’ve been saving up my bells and miles for today!

Ah, nice~

I’ve got a lot of bells stocked up so that should be nice. I’ve heard that things like moving buildings now costs less, 10K bells each, they used to be 30-50K.

…okay wow. The Switch App/Nook-link has an update. Daily newspaper with villager visitors, turnip price tracking and new redeemable Nook points!

Pretty solid Direct, if nothing mind blowing. Nice just to feel like things are moving and that there are things to look forward too. Does feel like Square Enix dominated things, wonder if they just like using the Directs to announce a ton of their own projects. Some good ports, a nice number of remasters and re-releases.

I think I’ll pick up Kirby at launch. It does feel like the spiritual successor to Super Mario Odyssey honestly, some of the abilities they showed in the new trailer seem to hammer home how similar it is too Mario’s Cappy abilities, but I’m sure they’ll be other differences too.

Mario Kart 8’s DLC is interesting. The big rumour ofcourse was for Mario Kart 9, but instead Nintendo are opting for a gigantic amount of DLC racetracks. Makes you forget the game is about to turn 8 years old now, nearly 10 by the time all this DLC is out. Think it is fair to say Mario Kart 9 is going to be for the next console.

Xenoblade Chronicles 3 was revealed. Was having fun trying to figure out the game during the teaser since I kept thinking ā€œit looks like Xenoblade, but the female characters are sensibly dressed and don’t have gigantic anime titties.ā€ I still haven’t played any of these games yet, seem like fun but also giant time investments. Having 3 of theses games on Switch now makes it feels like X needs to be ported at some point, it does feel like one of the few Wii U exclusives yet not to make the jump yet.

Another Dynasty Warriors game for Fire Emblem this time. Kindof interesting I guess, not sure how the alternate timeline plot will fare. Think it will be difficult to avoid it feeling like fan fiction I imagine.

Think I’ll get Splatoon 3 at launch, although I do own Splatoon 2 and still need to actually play it to gauge whether I’ll like it.

Advance Wars looks fun. Will probably get it at some point. Switch seems to be doing well for its tactical RPGs.

no hype for switch sports?

Looks fine I guess, but I think I’d rather go for one of the more colour Mario sport games. That Mario Golf game they released last year actually looks fun to me, I want to pick it up at some point.

Kindof amazed they didn’t do a ā€œSwitch Sportsā€ earlier really. Wii Sports were massive at the time, seemed strange not to just continue that brand.

Pretty sweet Direct overall.
Also thinking I might pick up the new Kirby Game at launch, or soon after, once I finish Star Allies. (I’ve heard after you finish the easy main story, you get some harder stuff that’s better for experienced players, which SA doesn’t have so far in the main mode)

Mario Strikers looks cool. It’s not at the top of my list, but I might get it in an elusive nintendo sale.

Portal 1+2 was surprising. Especially that it’ll cost 20$ (USD). That’s way lower than I expected.

The Star Wars Force Unleashed port looks interesting, but everyone says it might not be worth it, since it’s the Wii port – vastly inferior to the PS3/360 version in the past. :slightly_frowning_face: I’ll have to look into that.

It looks as fun as Wii Sports usually does. But Sports Resort kinda spoiled us with 12 events. Feels a bit worse that there’s Tennis, Badminton, and Volleyball which look like they play pretty similarly.
The digital version is going to be 40$ (USD) so mayyybe I’ll get into that if the regional price isn’t that bad – I already have the Leg Strap from Ring Fit Adventure.

Mario Kart DLC was the biggest wow moment. It’s been the highest selling game on the Switch since it’s release, and only now they’re cashing in on DLC. 25 american dollars for an entire game’s worth of new tracks seems like a great deal.
Really still not sold on that Online Expansion Pack. Either you pay every year for DLC (you might need to pay at least twice to get good use of all the tracks – releasing by ā€œend of 2023ā€), or buy it standalone, then bundle kinda loses its value. (I’m not interested in N64/Genesis stuff. Give me GBA)

Surprised to see Portal and Portal 2 being ported to the Switch

I don’t think Valve ever put one of their games on a Nintendo console

Call me in June when they reveal BOTW2 for real.

(Lots of people were expecting BOTW2 and Metroid Prime 4 in this Direct. It’s clear Nintendo would probably want to save those for June/E3 Season, as that’s usually when everyone reveals their major projects. One, the other, or both for Nintendo would cause a major splash in marketing)

I think you’re right. Valve does have a bit of a weird relationship when releasing stuff on consoles. When they released Portal 2 for the PS3, they also included Steam itself for the PS3. Not really sure why, no idea what you can do with it. But hey, Portal is the kind of game that makes sense for the Switch really, you can do the game in bite size portions. I’m not sure you can even get the Portal games or the Half-Life games for the modern consoles at the moment, I don’t know if they ever got ported off the PS3 and 360.
