The S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Series

Guess things will be more crammed together since they are trying to use most old locations plus new ones into one open world map. Not sure what that building next to the Rookie Village is.

Wondering if it’s just part of the perimeter wall retconned

Or just Sidorovich made so much money from Strelok and Scar that he could afford to build himself a new base of operation

Nice catch. Yeah, I was gonna suggest it looks like some sort of perimeter/border wall. Didn´t even know that was a thing at some point!

The fat old bastard is capitalism personified

Gonna be one hell of a nostalgia trip if they use most old locations. Nice.

You can spot the perimeter wall in one of the teasers for the game (1:53)

and yeah, the perimeter wall was supposed to be in the original game but got cut. Lost Alpha added part of it in one of the levels

The size of the map + 2 DLC locations marked (Limansk might be one of these locations)

Another DLC location would be an area covered in snow from the looks of it

and yes, the greedy toad is Sidorovich. His original name was actually Toad in the older builds

This is the original unedited HQ version.

Beat me to it

I dunno why, if it’s just a nostalgia/age thing, but I just don’t find those photorealistic graphics appealing at all. The originals felt like having a more unique visual identity.

Then again, when I played the demo last year at TGS, it felt/looked more like the OG trilogy, so hopefully that feeling will prevail in the final product.

I’m on top of my game when it comes to STALKER related things

Real jelly about that. Would like to meet the team and ask 'em all sorts of questions related to the game

No doubt about it, although there is also this tiny little thing called time difference

Ah, you didn´t miss much tbh. People only had 15 minutes each to play (while standing), so I barely had 10 minutes left by the time I even (sort of) figured out the controls

That being said, compared to the photorealistic-looking trailers, the game actually felt visually a lot like the old ones. Same goes for how the shooting felt. Which is good I guess.

Was thinking about asking the devs something as well, since nobody else was while I was in there, but couldn´t think of anything worthy, so I just wished them good luck on finally finishing the development

Anyways, I´m hoping to go to TGS again next month, so if I do and GSC are there again, I can try asking in your stead if you´d like. Just send me the questions

Huh? How? :face_with_raised_eyebrow: Still, glad to have him back.

Guess that in the end he didn’t die or end up as the monolith commander Charon. Either he survived the blowout since he already survived two or he only had his mind altered just like Strelok but once the monolith got destroyed, he got his memory back :slightly_smiling_face:

So, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 has finally come out. Anyone here playing, what’s your first impressions? @EvilGeniusRo I’ve seen you play it in the other thread, would like to hear your opinion :slightly_smiling_face:

From what I’ve seen and heard, the game is a bit rough around the edges and lacks optimization, but is quite entertaining otherwise!

Yep, the game is buggy but I have not experienced or heard of serious issues that can put a stop to a plauthrough, nothing out of the ordinary for a STALKER game really. Biggest concern for most is the performance issues that the devs promissed to address as fast as possible. They will be releasing a roadmap of sorts in December. Many of these performance issues are mostly related to UE5 engine it seems.

Gameplay is pretty much what you expect from a main STALKER game, it feels very old school, if there’s someone that has never played the OG trilogy, I wouldn’t jump into playing S2 expecting it to be similar to Far Cry 5 / 6, it’s more similar to FC 2 / 3. Also the game is tougher. Gunfights and mutant encounters are no joke, especially at the start of the game. A few well placed hits from enemies and you’re done so better start scavaging

Voice acting is… not good. If you played Call of Pripyat, you know what I mean. I say stick to the Ukrainian VO with subtitles.

Also this game has a healthy dose of good fan service. It’s not shoved in your face or anything, plenty or returning characters from the trilogy make a return and plenty of references to the trilogy can be found if you know your STALKER L O R E.

If you have a spare $60 and a decent modern PC, I say check it out. And trust me on the modern PC part. I don’t meet the minimum requirements though I still play it, everything on low, even resolution and it’s not a smooth ride, pretty much how I played SoC back in 2007 really.

Thank you! Really hope they’ll fix performance issues and bugs down the line. The gameplay part sounds decent, glad to hear that. I’m not gonna try luck with my old laptop yet, maybe sometime later :slightly_smiling_face:

GSC jumping in on the next-gen patch stuff, which makes me cautiously worried, since stuff like this can break stuff that worked, or - more likely in STALKER’s case - break stuff that made broken stuff work  I mean, integrating SRP and ZRP into their respective games would’ve been enough.

Sorry to burst your bubble but my guess is that the update on PC will include gamepad support, a few fixes exclusive to the console ports, such as grass shadows, and achievements. That’s it, we shouldn’t hold our breaths for major fixes that you can find in those unofficial patches, sadly.

As for the updates, breaking mods should be expected but I’m not worried since GOG has the option to offer older versions of a game, same as Steam and it’s not like we weren’t downgrading them in the past, especially Shadow of Chernobyl from 1.0006 to 1.0004
