Christmas and Halloween are also on my list as well for Safehouse decorations. Easter is good too since we also have an Easter Escalation.
I also had a concept for a “Patriotic DLC” that adds the National Anthems of all the countries in Freelancer as music tracks, and adds the National and State/Province flags, banners, flowers (for the garden), and other decorations of each country/state/province available in Freelancer as decorations. Maybe even have Greenland (because of the training missions), New Zealand, Austria, Singapore, and Russia based decor to acknowledge the locations that aren’t in Freelancer, but 47 has visited across the WoA trilogy. (Essentially, the Safehouse equivalent of the Aluminum Travel Briefcase concept). Might be a lot of work/research to do, but would be a nice way to pay homage to the entirety of WoA for the Safehouse.
And I agree with @Heisenberg, throw it all in. I’d like Valentine’s Day too.
I’m sorry, but I personally don’t like this idea at all. I really don’t want to decorate the safehouse with russian, german or chinese flags or any other country related flags because this is very political and doesn’t feel right for a game.
Exactly, same reason why I didn’t suggest Thanksgiving decorations, because that’s a specifically American holiday. And although they are celebrated more widely, I didn’t suggest St Patrick’s day or Cinco de Mayo for those reasons either. While Christmas, Easter and Halloween are primarily Western holidays, they’re still fairly politically neutral (unless you’re a hard right extremist, but I doubt it would create an issue.
YOU may not want to decorate the Safehouse with flags and the things I mentioned, that doesn’t mean others don’t want to. IOI isn’t going to force you to buy it if it was a DLC, and even if it was a free update that everyone gets, IOI would not force you to decorate your Safehouse that way. The Safehouse is your own to decorate as you wish. So the “I don’t want to decorate this way” point is moot and irrelevant. All it is is a choice/option for people who want it.
I could see why you feel that way if this was pretty much any other game, but as someone who loves vexillology just for the concept of designing a flag, and the way pretty much every National Anthem sounds from a sound design perspectice, I respectfully disagree. Especially with 47’s love of traveling the world.
Owning a flag don’t have to be political. You can just love the design and leave it at that. While 47 says in Blood Money “I don’t do politics”, flags are souvenirs that people collect in their travels. Like I said, you can just like the design, or even love to collect them. No political motivation is necessary.
I REALLY don’t understand your “political things don’t feel right in a video game” point either… at all. Have you played Hitman World of Assassination, like at all? Your point doesn’t make sense for the game we’re talking about.
We have maps already IN the game that HAVE flags in them like Miami, Morocco, and Whittleton Creek (which has both American flags and a Soviet flag), I believe both training missions have Australian and Cuban flags. Isle of Sgàil has a Hammer and Sickle statue. The Siberia map has a giant Russian flag AND a red Soviet star on the prison building. Napoleon Blownapart literally plays the French National Anthem and is a based on Napoleon (a historical leader of France). Some of the Elusive Targets (like the randomized one in Hokkaido - forgot his name) and The Revolutionary in Santa Fortuna are politically motivated contracts. The Hantu Port sniper assassin mission is also politically related (rescuing hostages that spoke out against the Khandanyang government). Colorado is literally a terrorist training compound. The entire plot of Patient Zero centers around stopping a global terrorist biological attack. We also have a Complication in Escalations and Contracts literally called “Big Brother” that relates to surveillance cameras. Do I need to mention the paid Sarejevo Six DLC coming out in a few days too?
I haven’t looked at the Aluminum Travel Briefcase recently, but I’m 99% sure there is even a flag sticker of at least one of the countries in Hitman (2016) ON the Briefcase. I want to say Italy’s flag, but I don’t remember exactly.
I’m pretty sure I didn’t even list every instance of “politics that shouldn’t be in a game” yet appears in Hitman World of Assassination, but that’s just what came to me off the top of my head.
We can respectfully agree to disagree about the DLC, but at least have your reasoning for why it shouldn’t be in the game make sense and be consistent WITH the game we’re discussing.
And as @Heisenberg said about Thanksgiving, St. Patrick’s Day, and Cinco De Mayo, I did purposefully leave them out of my Holidays idea as they are more American Holidays. That’s why I stuck with Holidays already represented in the game like Christmas, Halloween, and Easter. The only addition I made was Valentine’s Day.
Re: an extreme variety of flags and national anthems one could use in the safehouse… such a thing would only be clutter/bloat, and completely unnecessary. Still need your [REDACTED] fix? Draw your flag of choice on a stick-it note and put it up on your monitor while you have whatever national anthem playing on loop in YouTube.
The “Clutter/Bloat” is a somewhat better reason… until you remember you’re saying that in a thread where people who are spitballing more ideas/choices of decor for the Safehouse and are coming up with MORE things they want to see added. Why would a few flags be any more clutter/bloat than Holiday Decorations? Why add anything at all at that point? Why isn’t the Safehouse decorations in the Makeshift and Street Art DLCs also being complained about as “clutter/bloat”? Those are additional cosmetics, but I haven’t seen anyone on the Forums refer to those additions as clutter/bloat.
IOI sure made some unnecessary clutter that doesn’t need to be in the game with those DLCs.
Define “an extreme variety”? I NEVER said EVERY flag of every country. I only said the flags of countries, states, and provinces represented in the game (Colorado and Hokkaido for the State/Province example). If that’s what you consider to be "an extreme variety, then we have very different definitions of “an extreme variety”.
That’s even ignoring my point about it all being a choice. Nobody, not even IOI, is going to force you to buy the DLC, or use said decorations should you not wish to use them.
Still need your Christmas/Halloween fix? Just put the decorations next to your monitor instead of asking IOI to add them to the game.
Still need any Hitman music fix? Don’t pick the Hitman soundtrack options in the Safehouse, just put the game soundtrack you want on loop on YouTube. At that point, having music choice in a customizable Safehouse is irrelevant and pointless because of YouTube. IOI should never have put a soundtrack option in the Safehouse because it clutters up the Safehouse with pointless additions.
Better yet, remove ALL customization options from the Safehouse because all of it is potential clutter/bloat. Just have the default Safehouse for everyone and leave it at that.
And thank you for posting a picture of the Aluminum Travel Briefcase. You backed up my claim that Italy’s flag was already a sticker on the Briefcase (specifically, the sticker that says “Sapienza”). Now I can say with 100% certainty (instead of 99%) that there is a texture for an Italian Flag sticker in the game.
On the subject of flags… The shed can have the rainbow colors, suggesting the LGBT+(?), and is the only color scheme that is in a completed state. All other color choices (except for the untouched version) are unfinished/half-done jobs. Well, what if I want a fully painted blue, green, or yellow shed?
Re: the LGBT+ flag… I mean, this is what I’m assuming. If there’s reason to think this isn’t the case - feel free to inform me.
It’s not that I have an issue with that particular flag, it’s the unfinished state of the other colors. I mean, why even make them a choice? Or do you have to have 47 ‘Blend In’ for so many minutes to get a complete/finished color?
Edit: Now I’m seriously going to try that the next time I play. You can blend in for so long to catch fish, seems kinda logical to think this could work too.
Oh. Okay. But it still seems like a silly idea, IMO.
And if it was up to me, you would have the choice for either unfinished or finished painted sheds of any color IOI decides gets added to the game, and every pattern IOI would actually add to the game. Again, it goes back to what I said about the freedom of choice when it comes to making your Safehouse your own.
While, I get where you’re coming from, I didn’t interpret it as an LGBT+ flag, I just interpreted it as a rainbow pattern. Even if it was intended as an LGBT+ flag paint design, IOI added it to the game, and I support more options for customization. Like I said about flag designs though, it doesn’t inherently have to be political. You could just like the design. I myself like the colors/pattern of colors of it (both the shed and the flag, so it actually doesn’t matter to me either way of how IOI intended it).
I agree with you on the point about more Shed colors/options. There should be a choice for both unfinished paint jobs, and the full paint jobs. More colors would be a nice addition, should IOI decide more colors should be added.
I have the impression that my answer made you very angry and I’m sorry for that. It wasn’t a personal attack, I just don’t share your idea.
But what exactly does patriotism have to do with the politics in the hitman games? Of course it is a political game, but that doesn’t mean it has to be patriotic for the countries shown in the game because some of them are politically highly problematic (china, russia…).
And when there is a russian flag for example, I see it as an addition to support the whole environment of a location. But that doesn’t mean it should be added to the safehouse to decorate it with that for fun IMO.
I wasn’t angry. I just didn’t understand the reasoning is all.
I probably should have worded it better, or clarified, but the whole “Patriotic DLC” name I mentioned was just that… a name to represent my idea/get the point across. Basically, I couldn’t come up with a better name for it, and just used it as a placeholder. I imagine if IOI would actually consider adding it to the game, they would name it something else. Even I didn’t intend “Patriotic” to actually be the “final draft” for a name. Just spitballing a name to get my idea across.
I should have also clarified that the flags/banners I mentioned would be something like ALL the flags of countries/states/provinces with levels representing them in the game from a string or something (like, in a row). Basically, I imagined it as an alternative to Christmas/Halloween lights around either the inside or outside of the Safehouse (wherever IOI decides they would fit best).
You know how around 4th of July they sell those strings with American Flags hanging from them? …Well that, but each country/state/province in the game gets represented by one flag each on said string.
I still don’t know if/think I worded it right, but basically for example, USA flag then New York, Florida, Colorado, then Japan and Hokkaido, then China, and so on. Or maybe the flags appear on the string just in the order they appear in the game’s timeline or were released as levels.
And the National flowers I mentioned is just to have more variety for the garden.
Aaah now I understand. With the patriotic name and your description I thought you want flags for the whole house for every country to make the safehouse look like this in the end:
AFAIK there’s already an american flag from Colorado in one of the shed options? I personally don’t care much for flags (or holiday paraphernalia either) but I kinda like that one and wouldn’t mind seeing a couple more from Morocco or whatever, it’s not like there are too many decorating options for the safehouse when you compare it to something like the Sims :x
It’s all in the files supposedly considering it was shown in the Freelancer launch trailer, but I’m just not sure why we haven’t seen it added to the list of cosmetics for the Safehouse yet?
Don’t know if anyone has any updates on it?
Hopefully that list will become reality because the Xmas and Halloween decorations are definitely a thing. They were shown in the Freelancer launch trailer, but we’re just waiting for them to be added! Hopefully soon!
