The Seven Deadly Sins Collection | General Discussion

I’ve made a video where I rank the Seven Deadly Sins DLC.

In my opinion, the season (roadmap) as a whole is just as important as the escalation. I have ranked the Sins based on the escalation itself, their Hitman 3 eluisve target and any other additional content.

I hope you enjoy the video!

I was originally going to rank the escalations earlier, but then school got in the way, haha. Anyways, this’ll DEFINITELY show my playstyle, and personal bias, but that’s okay.

1. The Lust Assignation: This may not be everyone’s favorite, but this escalation stole my show! I enjoy trying to find out who’s the real partner, and it reminds me of the Patient Zero Colorado Mission where I deduct and form my own conclusions. The safes were challenging but not entirely irritating (more on this later), so it was fun trying to adapt and create routes on the fly, and observing the suitor’s movements were my favorite part! Definitely enjoy the clues, and the fact that you can get the lust-related items at the start. I appreciate that!

2. The Envy Contention: I was debating between this and the Lust Assignation for Number One. I enjoyed the Envy Contention, and the idea of you competing against a rival is nostalgic. Now, my favorite part about this contract? The throwbacks to different targets! From Sister Lei to Derek McInnis from Miami to Helen West from Whittleton Creek. I enjoyed the subtle Day Mendoza, and it made me feel so happy taking care of all these targets. The only downside (and reason why I put it second instead of first) was because of the lack of replayability. This is only because on my first run, I did all the challenges and all the optional challenges. But then there is the satisfying third level, which was fun to route and take out your Rival. Also, the fact that you got rewarded with the envy related items (and the fact that it connected to the level) felt good to use.

3. The Gluttony Gobble: Solid third place! The idea of killing targets in different ways in different places was solid! I enjoyed looking for yellow pigs and white pigs! The burping was a small thing that irked me, but the main part was traversing the ICA Facility feeling like a chore. It would’ve been cool if there was different guard/obstacles (such as someone moving around the first floor, making it a chore). I also deposited everything into the pig in one go, so I didn’t get a chance to use the Maximalist shotgun (and honestly, it’ll probably rust away in my inventory unless I’m bored). Either way, solid third entry.

4. The Pride Profusion: Definitely a mid escalation, even though a lot more people liked it. It was cool trying to find out your own route in a “choose-your-own-adventure” in taking the harder or easier way. I also wanted to use the new Pride items but I think the voice reprimanded me, which was weird and confusing. There was also the lack of changes throughout the map, but honestly, it might’ve been for the better.

5. The Greed Enumeration: Not my favorite. It felt like a bad way to start off the sins, but I did enjoy the fact you could choose how much of the contract you took on. The voice was off-putting and I didn’t get to use the other item that wasn’t the gold cane (that I can’t remember what it was) wasn’t particular. If there was an extra NPC watching over them or two, then it would’ve been much better to route.

6. The Wrath Termination: Here’s the thing. This sin has the best suit, but when people do Kill Everyone challenges, it’s truly “use the world as your weapon.” You could collect newspapers from newspaper stands, car explosions, or cocaine bricks in Santa Fortuna. It’s also fun getting into gunfights and picking up weapons and gunning other guards down in one huge gunfight. However, in the Wrath Termination, it was anything but. All it was were traps that the guards didn’t walk through half the time, and it got to a point where I just started grabbing throwables instead of using the world as intended. The fact that I never even got to see the Beast anywhere was also sad, since this was a perfect opportunity to use all of the items we’ve received in the past six months. Good time to use the Maximalist shotgun to the Proud Swashbuckler; items that we’ve never used unless there’s an obscure contract that requires them. I felt like the term “use the world as your weapon” became “use what we give you as a weapon,” which was not my favorite. Brownie points for the badass suit and the flash grenade reskin that honestly is really cool. (it would be more cool if it was a remote explosive, but that’s just personal preference)

7. The Sloth Depletion: The vitality meter was one of those “better on paper” things. It depleted too quickly and we had to rely on killing the jogger to just make it through the level, and it would (admittedly the best use of sloth) make us wait minutes just to not even replenish the filter. The suit wasn’t also cool, and my favorite part of each level was ending it, which may sound mean at first, but it was just a cool chair to sit in.

And that’s my ranking! Hope it’s a little justifiable.

Uhmm…No?I have no idea how you even came to such a conclusion.

First of all,it is pretty obvious that the Greed Enumaration is the least liked escalation in this pack.Just look at its average rating and at how many people consider it the best in the polls.

Second, just because you dislike it so much doesn’t mean everybody else feels the same.Even though I haven’t played all of the sins yet, this is currently my favourite one and I would even consider it a 10/10 escalation. And I am not the only one.I have actually seen quite a lot of people praising it.You can even look at the polls and see that it’s clearly among the favourite ones.

It’s just not necessarily an escalation for everyone(and yes,I have seen some people finding it their least favourite one as well),which can pretty much be said about almost all of the escalations in this DLC.Each sin offers a different type of experience and requires a different playstyle. This one in particular, from what I’ve noticed, appeals to players who love to take their time(whether we’re talking about players who play incredibly slow or whether we talk about players who play incredibly fast, speedrunners, who spend a lot of time creating new routes until they find the optimal one).

Ah, so sorry! I was just assuming since my group of friends who play Hitman in real life didn’t enjoy The Sloth Depletion, sorry. That felt very arrogant looking back at it. Thank you for the correction, though. I’ll delete that part, poor choice of words on my end!

My ratings of the escalations:

1. The Sloth Depletion For me, the vitality meter was one of the coolest complications, it was great seeing speedruns with it and how anxious it can make you. The funny challenge names made it even better

2. The Wrath Termination Not really much to say about this one. It was cool.

3. The Lust Assignation The map changes for this were great, definitely got the feel of “Lust” when looking at the dance floor. The random clues spawning is another great part, making you have to plan out how you’ll complete it each time you play again. My only pet peeve about it is that it was a 1 level escalation, and could’ve been more than what it is now.

4. The Gluttony Gobbling Another escalation that had the feel of “Gluttony”. The way you would need to hunt for the ingredients was sick. Handler Burping was not needed though, making it lower on my list.

5. The Envy Contention The challenges for this were very boring. Didn’t get the feeling of envy at all, if the words Envy and all the green in the map were removed, I would just think it was a normal escalation with a new gimmick. The assassin vs assassin thing was badass though, definitely made me feel like I was on the clock and I needed to go as fast as possible (even though the rival is really slow)

6. The Pride Profusion The choose-your-adventure like complication was neat, really straight forward and linear. A bit sad there weren’t many map changes.

7. The Greed Enumeration Do I need to go into detail?

Having finally played The Rage, I think I’ll join the ranking game.

Escalations

  1. The Lust Assignation (it is so unique and replay-able, I just wish you could change disguises or save to compensate for its length)

  2. The Sloth Depletion (vitality is right in my wheelhouse; I get into firefights with the best of them and pick up the pace in crucial moments but the pacing of this is perfect)

  3. The Gluttony Gobble (I like the hunting/fishing for “ingredients” and the (slight) increased use of the streets; it doesn’t really escalate, however, as the lists can be quite similar from level to level and I could do with less burping)

  4. The Envy Contention (this would probably be 3 except the rival compromised me moving a body once; not sure if it was bug but everything else from mechanics to presentation are top notch; he already has many advantages, he doesn’t need to be able to screw you over too)

  5. The Pride Profusion (this one was fun but a little simple, even the supposedly more difficult and “professional” route; I enjoyed the peacock dialogue)

  6. The Wrath Termination (this one doesn’t really convey the sin for me; if they did something similar to Carpathian Mountains (and that didn’t already exist), it would probably be number one)

  7. The Greed Enumeration (those 60 coins traumatized me; if any escalation/contract screamed “let us save!” it’s this one)

Elusive Targets

  1. The Ascensionist (this is my favorite ET ever; from the map changes to the target’s use of the map everything is above and beyond; my only minor nitpick is how she just stays in the penthouse after she gets there but that’s after a roughly 10 minute adventure)

  2. The Heartbreaker (I just love following the trio around; the dialogue here is fantastic in how unsubtle he is)

  3. The Collector (this is a much more refined The Stowaway; this might might skew the rankings but I pulled a sick chandelier kill in front of like 5 people and got SA)

  4. The Iconoclast (I don’t really remember much about her except that I shot her in the middle of a crowd and wasn’t noticed; I have heard about the opportunity with her business card and I like the idea of it)

  5. The Procurers (a bit on the simpler side but I enjoy Dartmoor and I like how you can use one to kill the other)

  6. The Liability (I like the additions of all the accidents but I killed him too fast to really be able to appreciate it more or experience his route; I don’t really remember much of anything able him)

  7. The Rage (it felt very 2016 and was a massive letdown after The Ascensionist; it also crashed, forcing me to restart, and the arcade smuggle location is unusable)

My personal 7DS escalations rank, from best to worst.

1.Gluttony
2 Sloth
3 Envy
4 Lust
5 Pride
6 Greed
7 Wrath

I think Sloth and Gluttony are the best, especially for routing your targets.
I know many will disagree, but I really can’t enjoy the Wrath one: it’s basically a kill everyone done wrong. Keep throwing random meele items while enemies keep shooting at me it’s lame. And the traps are not really intuitive to use. I prefer to go rampage on any map that playing this escalation.
Greed is the second worst, with that insta-fail bullshit, especially if you anticipate the game for killing the further targets before they’re marked, ruining any routing possibility (this is way sloth it’s definetly more enjoyable, despite the vitality meter).
Gluttony has some variety, especially because you have various and different targets to choose to kill at your wish. The Envy one is acceptable at best.
The rest, IMO, are mediocrity.

I was not a fan of escalation before, and now it’s not different. But I think some of 2016 were way better than those.

And about ETs:
1 The Procurers
2 The Ascensionist
3 The Collector
4 The Iconoclast
5 The Heartbreaker
6 The Rage
7 The Liability

I enjoyed all of them, despite the Berlin one.

I replayed Greed last week and enjoyed it more than I did the first time around.

I think this is because I was not struggling against bugs and clipping to pick up the 60 coins, and instead just having fun with it.

Instafail is still bad but I think they learned their lesson.

I enjoyed revisiting Dubai with the visual filter; I kinda dig that.

Otherwise just a basic escalation, not too crazy or original, and in a way after the whole 7DS, replaying it was refreshing.

Here’s my rating of both the escalations and the ETs:

ETs:
7. The Rage
There wasn’t really a whole lot to it. I still think it was a unique idea to make the target “fightable”, but other than that, his route is really short and there is only one really generic mission story.
6. The Liability
His story is very interesting, and I do like his character, but the gameplay really pushes down the rating of this ET for me. It’s just too easy.
5. The Iconoclast
If I remember correctly, her route isn’t very interesting or innovative, she just goes between two of her clients with a few rest spots in between. I do think the mission story was interesting.
4. The Heartbreaker
He has an innovative route, an interesting story, and a good mission story. Although I’ve only said good things about it so far, they are all base level in good. This is the point where I could say that I actually enjoyed the ETs.
3. The Ascensionist
This one is probably my fault. It’s still a higher rating, but I think it would’ve been higher if I played this ET in “the correct way”. I just knocked out everybody in the staircase and killed har that way. Other than that, this ET is amazing.
2. The Collector
The first new ET of Hitman 3 had a strong launch for the other ETs to come. An interesting character, good side mission, and a good gimmick.

  1. The Procurers
This is the only new ET in H3 to have two targets. This is phenomenal. It was ruined by 2 glitches, but not enough to lower it down to 2. for me.

Escalations:
7. Greed
It’s still broken for me, and because of this, I just cannot bring myself to finish this escalation.
6. Pride
I actually would like this one, but it is also ruined by being broken (for me at least).
5. Wrath
It’s both the easiest and hardest escalation. The first level is fine, but the other levels don’t really add much, in fact, most of the targets basically have the same route.
4. Sloth
This is an amazing escalation IMO, and the vitality meter adds a big challenge to it. I still think it’s only playable once.
3. Envy
It was interesting to have a solo ghost mode, and IO actually delivered on it. I was actually surprised to see returning characters.
2. Gluttony
Really like the idea of “Here are who you should look out for, go ham!” (pun unintended). The target locations are interesting and so is the gimmick of getting different kinds of food items for a recipe.

  1. Lust
This escalation is randomized with each playthrough, the clues add a puzzle element, the theme is good, and for me, it’s the best escalation. One problem I have with this escalation is that there isn’t really a target. Sure, the other dancers are the targets, but you don’t actually need to kill them, and even if you decide to do it, the admirer will definitely see you, and you aren’t actually allowed to kill him.

There’s methods and ways of killing the other guests without the admirer seeing you.

Thanks for the advice! I might try doing it that way.

Couldn’t you simply knock out the admirer after giving them the bouquet?

Use accidents, poisons, and lure them away for regular kills. Admirer won’t see that. Worked for me.

My 2 cents on the 7DS DLC as a whole:

I posted this back in march(?) and unfortunately it hasn’t changed for me. The only thing I changed my mind about is the recycled content, since I now know there are new ““unique”” available.

What makes me a bit sad is how IOI wants to charge 30 bucks for this while you could get 3 (or 4 if you count PZ) moderate bonus missions for less, which till this day I still fully enjoy. This discussion is well overdone, but I just want to mention that I will never pay 30 for 7 escalations, how good they may are. I was actually in doubt if I would buy Wrath since it looks cool, but I just can’t see myself replaying it that often. Same way I only replayed DGS 3 times after its release.

Some may love this stuff, some don’t. Thats fine and I respect that. However, I still stand with the opinion that IOIs quality in content has fairly sunken below average, and that releasing such a mediocre DLC a few weeks after release was a bit of an exploit of the core community’s hype.

Yeah…

I want to start by saying that I have never subscribed to the notion that we are owed bonus missions (because IOI gave some pretty good ones 5 years ago and repackaged some reject elusive targets 3 years ago) or new maps (because a couple fit perfectly into the story once upon a time). I’m also sick of the argument that escalations will always be shit because they were shit in 2016.

Additionally, I think there’s more going on behind the scenes to just simply label them as greedy shysters for releasing divisive DLC and call it a day; they aren’t the first video game company to overvalue their additional content and they certainly won’t be the last.

However, I agree that the bonus stuff feels lacking this time around. I don’t think the quality of the stuff we’ve got has dipped; in fact, I think it’s the opposite. The “problem” is that the stuff we’ve got doesn’t appeal to everyone (just look at the comments: some love some of them, some hate some of them, there’s few in between and it seems nobody likes all of them). The real problem is the price, especially considering the quantity.

Mostly, I just hold out hope for 2022. I don’t know what they’ve got in store but I sincerely hope it’s more than just permanent rereleases of things (although the Hitman III ETs would almost justify it). Hopefully, they pull something to end the trilogy on a high. Otherwise, I would be forced to look back on the last several years as (mostly) a really great trip that couldn’t quite stick the landing (like Game of Thrones).

And I’ve had too great a time for it to end like that so… :crossed_fingers:

While I enjoyed 7DS it isn’t exactly what I’m after in Hitman but I can understand why we had this kinda content with IO likely not wanting to dedicate resources if sales were low again like Hitman 2 was. 7DS was the go between in bridging the gap between H3 release and what content we get in 2022.

If H3 sold the same as H2 they would of ended with 7DS and be done with WoA. If sold well, H3 will likely get something in 2022 to be more of a proper expansion to the game. Of course all speculation (and a tad-bit of hope) from the little have heard regarding 2022 from IO streams.

If it was just filler content until full release in 2022 when they can cut loose with whatever else they have planned, in all for it, if there are more missions. If not, eh, it was still fun enough.
