Top 5 favorite maps of all WOA and 3 Worst

What can I do? It’s nice to shoot everyone while walking on a straight line with epic music. You can’t deny that the moment you step out of the train for the first time when the music kicks in is fenomenal, no matter how hard you hate the level.

Yes, I know I’ve doubled said number of worst maps, but we are talking about the whole franchise now (can I name this a franchise?) with 20 maps and I can’t help it if I feel that more than 3 maps are my worst.
Top 5 would be Dartmoor, Sapienza, Hokkaido, Bangkok, Whittleton Creek.
Rest are just okay

In the hut with a couple of Hotel Security guards at the back of the hotel (near the tuk-tuk). Was in OG HITMAN (2016) from the launch of Bangkok for quite a long while, and then got patched out because @Patrick_McColloch won a competition to become an IOI dev for a day.

What!? And they allowed him such a downgrade?

Its part of the reason why Bangkok is meh to me and the one camera recorder in alerted sucks.

Best:
1: Mendoza. I love the atmosphere and writting of this level. My only complain is that Tamara Vidal is a very annoying target to kill, which is funny because Yates is one of the easiest.

2: Dartmoor. To me this is the best map to traverse suit only, It’s really fun to move around the mansion, there is multiple routes to get to each room. Alexa is also one of the best written targets and the whole detective mission story is also one of the best writting wise, It’s a shame that gameplay wise you don’t get to do any actual detective work because Diana just spoils everything. If I have to name an issue is that it is too easy if you use disguises.

3: Paris. There is nothing else to say about this map, a perfect introduction to what the trilogy is all about.

4: Sapienza. Again, there isn’t anymore I can add. This is a map that is always fun regardless of the gamemode or strategy you’re doing

5: Miami. Choosing between this and New York was hard. This map is very good for the same reasons as Sapienza.

My runners up for best maps: New York and Whitleton Creek

Worst:

1: Bangkok. This map can kiss my dirty asshole. Is not too bad for contracts modes, but the main mission is just a pain, especially for suit only. The entire north building has to be the worst designed section of any level, there is only one way to get anywhere.

2: Colorado. Everything wrong with this map has already being said. It wouldn’t be so bad if it had some verticality

3: Mumbai. Even after 7 years of playing this thing I still get lost.

Runner up for worst map: Heaven Island. This would be an ok map if it wasn’t for the fucking extended line of sight, there isn’t a more miserable experience than getting spotted by someone that doesn’t even show up on instinct. The whole villa section is pretty assy too.

The deleted camera recorder in Bangkok has a bit more to it.

Hitman 2016 started out with evidence recorders only linked to their area cameras, not universal and all of them as it is now.

That’s why Sapienza has recorders in the church, in the municipal building, villa, and cave.
The design was dropped because the player had no indicators of which recorder to delete, it was confusing.

The design intent of the Bangkok always was to have the difficult to reach recorder and/or its cunningly placed cameras in Jordan Cross wing to be an important part of the normal Silent Assassin route.
With the second one be an easier one for the garden cameras, less likely to be tripped by the player.

Since the recorder were made universal after, it took away this design. Players just ignored the cameras and deleted them all in the garden.
So in the name of the fundamental design intent, it was removed. Forcing the player to mind the cameras, or find a way into the security room.

This is wrong.

The change to make camera systems work globally was made in the Summer Bonus Episode patch on July 19, 2016 that added The Icon and A House Built on Sand.

From the notes: “Adjusted the design of the surveillance system so that all cameras are linked on a “global” system within the mission. All cameras are now connected to all recorders in a mission and if a player disables one recorder, all cameras no longer record 47.”

So from the moment Bangkok launched on August 16, 2016 it always had camera systems that were universal and not separate. And therefore they must have had another reason for removing the second camera system.

Bangkok design, and development, was made under the previous system though.

It might have been shipped after the patch.
But my point still remains as to why it might have been altered.
Patch changes having consequences that are catched and course corrected only later on is not unheard for.

Your updated autopsy patch timeline report is no match.

My guess is that the recorder was causing some sort of glitch or issue so they removed it and never bothered to fix it, given how many other maps in the trilogy have some recorders that are much easier than others on the map which they never decided to totally remove (Sapienza, Hokkaido, Miami, New York, Dubai, Chongqing, etc).

As an aside, it breaks my heart looking at the old Hitman 2016 patches and seeing how many good quality of life improvements in addition to tons of bug fixes that they added to the game with every single patch.

And back on the topic’s track, the cameras being so tough and inaccessible is just one of the many reasons why I rank Bangkok the lowest map in the trilogy.

The Isle of sgail is not weakened by public opinion. A masterpiece always remains a masterpiece.
