Unpopular opinions about Hitman

I would be fine if IO never re-added the seasonal content (Holidays Hoarders etc.), if they just gave us permanent The Undying. To me that’s a more than fair trade

I don’t like the Master Difficulty and I don’t act knowledge that it exists. This isn’t due to it being to harder or something logical. I simply dislike it due to there being no such Difficulty in past games, if it was named Professional then I would love it.

It should go

  • Normal
  • Expert
  • Professional

But if the lowest setting is “normal” then there’s no “easy” mode for more laid back playthroughs, messing about, or genuinely lower skilled players

I would say the current “normal” mode is professional (with cameras and various other pieces). I believe it’s the way IO expects most of us to play most of the time, hence normal. But having difficulties above and below that is definitely a good thing.

Maybe you could call the lowest difficulty “Rookie” :wink:

TL;DR: There should be a difficulty below normal

Codename 47 had it right with Easy, Normal and Hard though I could never tell what’s different between each difficulty :stuck_out_tongue:

Neither do i, I’m pretty sure it only increases the damage you take. I play always on Hard…or do i get hard when I play? Idk

All I care about is Professional being the hardest mode, they can add an easy into the mix for all I care :wink:

I know a few people here liked the cold-hearted, no-mercy killer 47 from Blood money, but I honestly prefer Hitman 2 Silent Assassin’s 47. The one who is lost in the world, questioning his beliefs and actions, willing to change for the better. It’s only shown in some parts of the entire game (mostly the beginning and ending) but it still was enough to make it seem more unique than another stone-cold killer.

In fact, I think blood money degrades H2SA’s 47. The one person willing to forget his entire past (and identity, considering the serum took away most of his memories he could only remember everything after the tutorial for Codename 47, so he could only remember being a hitman.) to find meaning in what he does becomes yet another money-hungry stone-cold killer. The ending for Silent Assassin had 47 say that he will seek his own truth and justice, but I find it hard to believe that after all that he returned back to be a greedy hitman.

i don’t find he’s ‘greedy’ in bm, just all business. i always took his dislike of the franchise and parchezzi (the albino killer clone, not the game) to be a matter of professional pride rather than about them muscling in on his money.

Well I guess that is one way to see it. For some reason I just get that impression from bm 47 and I don’t like it at all.

Yeah, I haven’t really put too much thought into which depiction of 47 is my favourite (having only played C47 - Contracts once). But 47 in BM does feel like a flatter character and more of a prop for the story than in other games. Probably because the conflict in that story is the least personal to 47 imo

that’s a fair enough reading of it.

i’ve said this elsewhere, but i really don’t find 47 all that interesting as a character in any of the stories so far. he’s always been secondary to the targets for me. he’s cool, but i think he works better as a cipher for the player or even a force of nature. like a david lynch take on the grim reaper.

the problem is, a) i’ve not seen an angle on him that isn’t a trope done far better elsewhere, and b) the more they humanise him, the more he clashes with the positively psychopathic gameplay.

hitman has always been pretty absurd, so it’s hard to take his existential angst seriously when I have him running around in a cartoon flamingo costume beating people to near-death with a fucking fish, you know?

blood money was the first game in the series to lean into the blackly comic/satirical/absurd side of things.

I hate the T-847 from Blood Money, I find it to be a betrayal of his character and my contempt for how 47 acted in BM is reinforced by fans who think this version is an accurate portrayal of the character. This argument comes up every time 47 shows his humanity and some fans will be lambasting IO for it.

There is no doubt that he’s an more interesting character in the game prior to BM and after to be quite frank.

Also to spice it a bit up and my hot take of the day: Timothy Olyphant’s portrayal of 47 is more true to the character then the version we got in BM.

Codename 47 has my favorite characterisation of 47, he’s calm and collected, tough as nails and just a little socially awkward. Its like a look in the Mirror for me :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

i dunno, he’s always been a (very cool looking) bundle of cliches. his whole ‘i’m a man of peace now’ schtick at the start of h2:sa is basically from a rambo movie :smile:

in many ways, he’s a ‘purer’ distillation of those tropes in bm, it gives everything around him - which is (imo) the more interesting stuff - more room to breath.

and just to make doubly sure my opinion fits the unpopular category: i think joseph ‘swing king’ clarence is a more interesting character than 47 will ever be.

Compare it to BM, where he’s a blank page with two words written on it “Generic T-800”. Everything is more interesting then a character who has no agency and have flushed all character development into toilet.

i can totally understand that, but everything about him is absurd. i prefer him as a blank slate for the player’s projection; as a mute guide to the insane world he lives in rather than the focus of it.

i prefer not knowing 47. the more he’s developed, the less enigmatic he becomes and the more it clashes against the gameplay. v from v for vendetta, for example, is interesting precisely because we don’t ever get to know him. to know him is to diminish him.
