Unpopular opinions about Hitman

Is it now an unpopular opinion to say that I love Blood Money? Well, anyway, I guess if we’re talking games:

Codename 47: I don’t hate this game but I don’t really see much need to ever replay it. I’ll give C47 this: it’s never boring, it feels like it is brimming with ideas from the devs, and there is so much charm packed into its levels. I just don’t think C47 really knows what kind of game it wants to be, action or stealth.

Silent Assassin: Some great highs but I think the lows are so low that I don’t think you could ever say SA is the best Hitman game. Not even Absolution has anything as utterly horrendous as Hidden Valley, I think it is objectively the worst level ever put into a Hitman game. But still, there are impressive levels, St Petersburg, the first skyscraper level, one of the India levels, I think, Invitation to a Party. Hitman’s identity is slowly emerging here.

Contracts: I think this game mostly holds up. Granted, as much so many fans seem to love the very dark atmosphere I think it does get a bit too edgelordy for me at times. The Meat King’s Party does go from dark to just being overly absurd for me in its edginess. Still, some good levels here, but it does feel let down a little by the remake portion. I think they should of been more willing to take liberties with the remake levels. I think combining the 2 Dutch levels from C47 into a single level worked really well, but I think the decision to try and make the 4 Hong Kong missions was misguided, they all feel outdated by Contract’s mechanics.

Blood Money: Not sure what to say. OK, yeah, the tutorial mission is rubbish, the epilogue mission is confusing when trying to wake 47. The White House mission isn’t great, and the Vegas casino has aged badly due to just how much waiting you’re forced to do in it. But otherwise, when BM is on fire, it is on fire. The Vineyard, the health clinic, the Christmas party, the boat, the wedding are just great levels that are so much fun to wander around and explore. It is clunky though and I would love some kind of remaster that helps fix the clunkiness.

Absolution: Not that bad. Alright, it’s not a good Hitman game, but I don’t hate it. Probably would be more bearable is the plot wasn’t so stupid and kept ripping off Pulp Fiction. Arguably Absolution is more close to being like The Last of Us, or other vague “action adventure” linear games where plot is the main focus and trying to give the players an “experience”. But yeah, Absolution, not that great, doesn’t really have much replayability. Don’t think it is a terrible game.

You’ll have to put a good half of the forum there :stuck_out_tongue:

Who says half of the forum isn’t in that book already? I been keeping notes.

I think that Seafood Massacre and Lee Hong Assassination fit perfectly into the game and don’t feel outdated, but I am not very sure about the other two though.

Even though I don’t like waiting in general in Hitman games this is one of the missions in which I like waiting to admire the beautiful location and to listen to the amazing soundtrack.

Calling that mission great is pretty strange…
Your post was really interesting to read though.

I’d argue these missions are as good as ITAP. The Japanese missions were just a nightmare to play through.

Considering the shitfest that was Absolution, this was the first proper Hitman mission we’d had since Blood Money.

I wouldn’t say overrated. I loved it first time around. Still do now.

I’m honoured!

Seafood Massacre is alright, but Lee Hong? I think in both C47 and Contracts the level is too big and unweildy for its own good.

Yeah, even alot of the BM fans seem to think that level is one of the weaker ones, but I kinda like, partly due to the challenge of trying to take out 8 targets, even if half of them are very easy to kill.

I think you have misunderstood the idea behind the book.

I think they handled the size of the map in Contracts well.
In C47 there were additional steps:you had to get the safe combination from Mei Ling, you had to deliver the jade figurine and you had to escape in the boat(so you most likely had to use the secret passage),so there was a lot of running around and the size of the map didn’t help.
But,in Contracts the steps mentioned above were removed(or became optional) and you have only 4 mandatory steps left:1.Rescue Smith 2.Kill Hong 3.Open safe 4.Escape.So,there isn’t a lot of running around in the Contracts version because there are less steps to follow, the map is also better organised and easier to understand(and doesn’t feel like a full chaos like the original version) and you have 2 exits now which can be used in your advantage depending on the safe’s position.

Bourbon: It’s astounding how correct and well-supported her theories are. I enjoy the fresh take she brings on the lore and look forward to winning big in the betting pool when she inevitably kicks @MrOchoa’s ass in that parking lot. :stuck_out_tongue:

actually, you don’t even have to do that to complete the level. you may rely on luck and reload saves

In Contracts, you can even kill Smith for good and the mission won’t be failed :stuck_out_tongue:

Oh,sorry!My bad.
I have edited my post to be clearer.

Watching the heated discussion in the Voice acting Thread… Am I the only one who would not care about the accents or their absence in H3, like, at all :joy: ?

No, I am on the same boat. Accents are a nice touch but they aren’t essential and I think the virus just fucked up the game’s production.

An unpopular opinion? Well, I don’t know if this counts, but I love Plutonium runs loose. It can get frustrating, yes, but the atmosphere, the music, the meowing cat in the background… I just love it.

nah, this doesn’t counts, i also love Plutonium runs loose, its my second favorite mission in Codename 47. I strongly dislike Deadly Cargo tho
