I wouldn’t say the story got necessarily better with Absolution, so much as it was completely in focus the entire time. We knew what was happening, why it was happening, and who was involved for nearly the full length. The previous games up until then, and the first part of WoA (H2016), all had individual story threads that we couldn’t see the full picture on until at least halfway through the game where we could connect everything together, with Blood Money being the most prominent example of such. Absolution is the one game where there weren’t really any story twists near the end, at least none we couldn’t see coming a mile away (Victoria being genetic engineered, Diana surviving), and where the game was built around the story, rather than the other way around. I don’t think Absolution’s story is really any better than the other games’ stories, but it is the most prominent one.
I mean if you simply want to focus on graphics then sure, it is a step up. So long as you ignore the bad disguise system, the checkpoint save system and the focus on gun play over actual social stealth the series is best known for then you can say it is a technical improvement.
C47 looks like ass but it has a better story and it has the novelty of having its gameplay be novel even if it is the jankiest game at least it feels like a Hitman game, certainly more so than the more polished Absolution.
I wonder if anyone has ever done a playthrough of Absolution in the style of Hitman?
That was a joke, btw.
Anyway. Something I thought of while playing Freelancer… And this could probably be unpopular. I almost thought of making a new topic. But thinking about it the conditions would be limited to a few things.
A game mode with active traps/hazards.
There was an escalation in Marrakech (only in H1, I believe) where there were mines in the level. You needed to either avoid them, or get the device to switch them off.
Instead of mines (or in addition to? ) you could have random electrified puddles. Leaking PTs and oil spills wouldn’t be as much of an issue since they’d be easy to avoid. But electrified puddles would keep you on your toes. I don’t know about mines, or laser trip-wires… Because you’d need a way to at least know they’re there - if you’re paying attention!
Ghost Mode had mines the other player could set down. But I don’t see an official Ghost Mode returning. Instead of traps/hazards being active, the other ghost player could set them. But that sounds like PvP (with no race to kill a target) more than a competitive GM. You’d just be killing each other via traps. And if that were the case… I think shooting the other player would be too direct. But maybe shooting PTs, oil spills, etc. would be allowed.
Maybe a Hardcore Ghost Mode.
At any rate… just throwing out some ideas. Ideas I’m sure would be unpopular.
Less of an upopular-unpopular opinion, and more of an unpopular-who cares opinion. But it’s driving me crazy:
The trinity, platforms, and twitch suits are ill-fitted.
This particular model is only used for those promotional suits, and they are way too large for 47, who looks like he’s a child wearing his older sibling clothes.
That’s it. It’s nothing really, but it’s been maddening to me for months now.
Huh, I noticed that, but was never sure what I was noticing, just knew something didn’t look right.
Not to mention the whole single-color outfit thing is a fashion disaster in the first place (and I’d go so far as to add that those red shoes are a fashion disaster just by themselves).
I heartily agree. I hate how those suits fit and never use them.
The same could be said for the ephemeral suit:
…47 needs a better tailor these days.
Maybe it’s time for 47 to stop going to a blind tailor. Even by 2012 standards he had one foot in the grave.
Naw. He needs those baggy suits to carry 5 crowbars, 12 bricks, 30 soda-cans, a 2x4x10 block of C4, his Silverballers™, a tranq gun, and any stray coins he finds along the way.
I am in this picture and I don’t like it.
What tailor? 47 stole that suit from a local morgue in Miami.
You know what, that’s a valid take lol. For this suit only though.
As for the others that are ill-fitted? 47 should have them fit perfectly. It’s basically out of character for a fashion-conscious guy such as himself to wear anything unflattering otherwise.
Except when he’s on the job. Then anything goes.
That’s true. And, to bring it more on topic again, maybe it’s not an unpopular opinion…but I’d like to see more disguises that aren’t necessarily “one-size-fits-all”. Perhaps the worse it fits, the more enforcers you have since it clearly looks like you stole it. Would be cool to implement that in the next game.
Right now, I can only think of 2 disguises in game that aren’t immediately his size, which are the bartender in Santa Fortuna and the masseur in Marrakesh
Not the fitting, but the Absolution suit wears the tie too short.
As for disguise the ICA Board Member in Chonqging is multiple size larger than 47, and it’s comically visible when 47 takes it.
I think it’s part of latter Hitman 3 deconstruction of various mechanics.
Are the Trinity suits actually ill-fitting? I had always thought of them as being linen suits which, by design, are intended to be lighter and more loose-cut than 47’s regular attire.
From what I can see, there doesn’t appear to be anything ‘wrong’ with the measurements. The jacket fits nicely around the shoulders & chest. The length is also good at the waist and sleeves. The trousers have a little extra length at the ankle, but I read as a stylistic choice in keeping with the overall look.
I understand this design might not be to everyone’s liking, but my bigger gripe would be the broader lack of variety in 47’s suits. I think it’s nice to have a few different options in terms of material and cut.
In his defence, that suit is 12 years old so maybe he just outgrew it
