Yes, precisely. Swap out Christmas with St. Patrick’s Day in this song, the title, the lyrics, everything. What else changes about the song? The events, the feelings, the decision the singer is making for the current year, the whole thing the song is about, what changes if Christmas is taken out and replaced with any other holiday, or even just a plain day with no special meaning otherwise? Nothing. Nothing about the song changes with or without Christmas, other than when it takes place and the use of that word.
I’ve spoken on this at length in numerous other topics and really don’t want to spin this current debate off into one on this subject too, but the short answer is, no. The artist/creator of a work is not always the end-all/be-all of their work in 100% of scenarios. I’ve pointed out an example in this thread already a few days ago with the origin of the song Jingle Bells.
You have yet to show how I’m objectively wrong. Objectively isn’t bankruptcy; you can’t just declare it. And for the record, I did stop, two days ago. I’m not the one who keeps bringing up different questions on this subject.
You’re late to the party by more than an hour on that one.
