Unpopular Opinions

Jack Ryan > Jason Bourne >>>> James Bond.

I’ve never enjoyed any of the Bond films to be honest: Over the top, misogynistic, one dimensional sociopath. Plus all those god awful sexual innuendos and puns. Replace any of the “Bond girls” with Barbara Windsor and you’re left with just another Carry On flick.

That would be about me. And I have absolutely no desire to watch them

By plot: Bioshock 1>Bioshock 2>>>Bioshock Infinite>>>>>>>>Burial at Sea
By gameplay: Bioshock 2>Bioshock 1>>>>>>>>>>>>Bioshock Infinite>Burial at Sea

Burial at Sea is utterly atrocious and a terrible finale for both Infinite and Bioshock 1. Haven’t played Minerva’s Den, I hear that is pretty good, even if the devs of that made Gone Home which I think is very overhyped.

not defending bond in the slightest, but isn’t jack ryan, like, a tom clancy creation…?

He is, but please expand?

Season 2 of The Wire is the best season.

jack ryan is a character in hunt for red october, patriot games, clear and present danger and others, isn’t he? they were all written by tom clancy; right-wing reaganite whose books are full of the worst kind of jingoism and racist stereotypes, and read like technically accurate american propaganda.

i thought this was a pretty popular opinion. it’s wrong, but popular.

Oh yeah, I know Clancy was a scumbag (so was Fleming) but the character of Jack Ryan himself is pretty ethical, patriotic yes, but no way near as bad as Bond.

(IOI gonna ban me from the Hitman servers at this rate )

Don’t think that’s a particularly unpopular opinion at this point… and I agree with you. :slightly_smiling_face:

I don’t think this is even contested.

Can you give specific examples, as in a specific joke that you found hilarious but other people found offensive, this makes it easier to unbox and negotiate if something is actually offensive. It’s really hard to do with all of these vague generalities. I feel this is a complaint in a lot of alt-right, 4chan-esque circles but like many other things in today’s world, are never substantiated.

Found this scene pretty funny in Get Hard. The stereotypes are handled in the most hilarious way imaginable. I’m sure some people will be offended by things like this.

But this whole thing comes down to personal taste. I want to add that its not only racial jokes I was referring to (before I’m pictured as a racist, which I’m not). It’s hard to name more appropriate examples, since most come down to context, subject, the person telling the joke, etc. Litterly anything can be turned into a joke if you ask me. Also serves as a coping mechanism if you will.

I want to wrap up this post by saying that it wasn’t my intention to harm anyone in any way. I guess my wording doesn’t justify what I had in mind. Anyway, I’m far from a sexist, racist, hatefull person. I just like to use humor to cope with sensitive themes and turn them into something funny. Not everyones cup of tea ofcourse, and I respect that.

Do you think somebody like Sarah Silverman can be found offensive?

Don’t know her but everyone can be offensive if they use a poor choice of words

Reading this thread:

Screw it, lets add to this: George Lazenby isn’t a bad Bond. Both the film and novel On Her Majesty’s Secret Service are masterpieces. Octopussy is severely underrated.

Nah, but it definitely does not deserve all the hate
