So Dying Light was the generic zombie game but with parkour, right?

Yes. Generic though?

I just felt like every other zombie thing out there to me. I played through it once, it was competent enough but neither the story or gameplay was really compelling to me so I then I sold it to buy something else.

29:59 and 35:57 for gameplay and such

I don’t know what it is but the graphics seem muddy for some reason, and it still built on FC3 mechanics which by now it’s just plain lazy on Ubi’s part. Also some of the wackier parts really reminds me of Just Cause

“However, the laughable dissonance between a story that focuses on martial law and fascism and gameplay that has you recruiting wheelchair dogs and jacket-wearing crocodiles to fight alongside you remains disgustingly ignorant. I’m not sure others feel the same way, but I can’t take a tale that willingly leans into real world events while simultaneously asking us to engage in a super wacky explosive fun time seriously. The preview event was hands-off, but I could feel the tonal disparity through the screen, knowing that Ubisoft was repeating the same mistakes to an even more excessive degree.”

Sums up my feelings exactly. Especially when you read those proclamations they make about creating a “guerrilla fantasy” and taking inspiration from real-life stories to pay tribute to “freedom fighters” of the past (lol). When I saw that wheelchair pup I was like “Are you fucking kidding?” Latex-clad murder nuns don’t seem all that bad now

I still hope the game will be good, mainly because I like the setting/inspiration, but would prefer if it took more from FC2 and OFP: Resistance rather then push the wacky aspects even further Just Cause-style

Pretty much why I don’t like a lot of modern video games.

Or the flamethrower that turns into a semi jetpack and does an area effect damage to enemies around you. I actually rolled my eyes at that part of the video

Yep, I always considered it the western S.T.A.L.K.E.R. (to some degree) and would have loved if they borrowed more ideas from that one, minus the respawning checkpoints, screw the respawning checkpoints.

Add in the cringy character looks to appeal to what is apparently the majority player base these days
(Yeah I know, I’m in Grampa Simpson mode)

Oh yeah, that one too actually. Would’ve pointed out to it if it wasn’t for the dog

Couldn’t agree more :+1: As for the checkpoints, yeah, screw’em, but luckily we have the modders

I only just discovered this after briefly checking out the Devolver Digital E3 event of this year.

Inscryption – it reminds me a lot of the aesthetic of Hand of Fate, but with added horror elements and escape room mechanics(?)

Pre-ordered Metroid Dread off the official Nintendo UK Store. Must admit, was tempted to opt for the Special Edition, which comes with a steelbook, art book, and 5 holographic cards, each representing Metroid, Metroid 2, Super Metroid, Metroid Fusion, and Metroid Dread. Decided against it, couldn’t really justify the extra £30, especially since I’ve also pre-ordered the Metroid Dread amiibos as well, and I’ll be buying a few other Nintendo games that Nintendo are publishing in the future.

Still though, did want to bring up the question, do you guys go for special editions much or even occasionally? I must admit, I do see a special edition for a game that looks wonderful, and has me tempted, even if the game in question is something I probably won’t love to ever justify it. I think I just love shiny things.

Far Cry 6 - weapon holstering & notoriety will introduce social stealth to the series

I’ve been playing lots of Far Cry 5 this week after buying it during a sale. Like many people here, I favour a stealthy playstyle and seek to remain undetected as much as possible. However, this is tricky because enemies in the Far Cry games are always hostile. They will detect you if you are within their vision for just a few seconds and quickly initiate combat.

Far Cry 6 is introducing a couple of new mechanics which could significantly change the gameplay experience. Firstly, you will be able to holster weapons. This might seem like a minor point on the surface, but this simple action will enable you to pass under the nose of guards like a regular citizen. In other words, Far Cry 6 will be the first game in the series to enable social stealth.

Coupled with this, Far Cry 6 will also feature a notoriety system. The more chaos you cause, the more recognisable you will become to the authorities. Conversley it follows that the more stealthy you are, the easier it will be to continue blending in and remain undetected. Depending on how well this system is integrated, it could meaningfully reward stealthy gameplay for the first time in Far Cry history.

Here are some screenshots from the trailers which demonstrate some of these ideas:

Driving through an enemy checkpoint undetected.

Bribing a soldier for information.

Tricking a checkpoint guard with fake paperwork.

Cutscene with the protagonist wearing a disguise.

Such images might not seem revolutionary, but in the context of the Far Cry series these gameplay situations would previously have been unthinkable. In past games, all of these soldiers would shoot on sight and ask questions later. Far Cry 6 could offer a significant departure from this tradition.

People have expressed concerns that this game could be too loud and silly, oversaturated with ‘Just Cause’ style action and explosions. I share these concerns. Yet, ironically, Far Cry 6 might also provide some of the best stealth gameplay we have seen in the series to date.

Finally available to buy on Steam (and also releasing on Xbox), and not long to wait now. I’ve been looking forward to this for a long time.

YESSSSS

Comes out on Thursday and it’s only now open for pre-order? That’s cutting it close.

Hopefully the specs aren’t too severe, I’d love to play this on my PC. I’ve been waiting so damn long as well.

First gameplay footage of W̶a̶t̶c̶h̶ ̶D̶o̶g̶s̶ ̶2̶ Saints Row got released :stuck_out_tongue:

I’m pretty indifferent about Saints Row, never played any of the titles, so i couldn’t care less.

But why reboot a whacky looney toons GTA clone, in a more grounded tone? Why shouldn’t i just play GTA instead?

The locations shown look really great, but the characters themselves look a bit
 Fortnite-esque?

Weird.
