What Videogame(s) Are You Playing?

The final 3 bosses of the final dlc are slain. Midir the dragon fell after i had exhausted all of my embers, spear of the church met a violent end of a flaming sword. And gael got a double destruction from both me and my friend’s weapon.

and with this my dark souls 3 adventure comes to an end. Harry Nagbottoms devoud anime fan of the 72nd undead platoon imbued with the power of flame can finally rest. now on to dark souls 2 with that same friend.

Been playing alot of Kingdom Hearts 1. It has been a bit of an upward battle. Like I said earlier, I set the game to hard on advice from a couple of reviews I’ve seen of the game, and you can’t change that mid-game. So it has been a bit of constantly hitting a hard bit, dying 5-15 times, before eventually managing to get through it. Saying that though, when you hit roughly the half way point, the game does get alot easier since you get a healing spell, you start getting summons, just more powerful stuff in your arsenal etc.

But still, I do keep hitting those roadblocks, and a couple times had to whip out Google to see what kind of magic and tactics I should be using. I’ve just arrived at the final world, and I also still need to beat the 2 Coliseum cups as well, which I’m not too sure are mandatory. I do know though that the level cap is 100, and I’m at like level 40 I think, so I wonder if I should perhaps just grind for a bit, but it also depends if I can really be bothered.

I dunno, I am liking the game but I definetly regret setting this on hard. I imagine this is quite normal difficulty for those with alot of experience of third person games. For me, it just shows off how terrible my dexterity is, as well as my reaction times. I think I’ll definetly be setting the following games to normal difficulty from this point forward, especially since I believe (barring optional end game bosses and the like) the following games get a bit easier and a bit easier to get broken techniques.

So yeah. Honestly my biggest takeaway from this is why I should stay away from Dark Souls really if this is giving me so much trouble.

Anyone around here playing MGSV with mods? (@ColdDayInHell maybe, or @Gromova ?) Is the current version of Snakebite from March working ok with the last update of the game that came out the same month a day or two later?

I had to reinstall my game around then cause my Steam launcher got bugged and have been playing vanilla since then, but I really miss my camo (and other) mods… :weary: Been waiting for a SB update but since that one hasn’t arrived, I’m guessing I should go with the one available?

Been playing Sly Cooper 4 lately.

Boy do I have mixed feelings. Need more time to dwell on it.

Dark Souls and I’ll say this because it’s true isn’t hard, it’s simply how you play and the willingness to adapt and overcome. It’s part of the experience and why people hold the series so fondly. The series is very versatile in how you approach the game.

People with Sorcery builds can essentially breeze through the games simply due to how broken they can be.

Deprived Builds are for the people who want to build their character up the way they want without pre existing stats. This comes with one downfall which is deprived builds start as the weakest class in the series.

Comparing Kingdom Hearts to Dark Souls in terms of it’s difficulty isn’t a good assessment of Dark Souls as a series this is partially due to them being two separate entities in terms of gameplay mechanics and difficulty.

Kingdom Hearts if it’s your first time should be experienced on Normal. This will be evident when you get to Kingdom Hearts 2 and Birth By Sleep where the game has spikes in difficulty if you don’t have a understanding how the core systems work. (I Speak from experience)

Dark Souls has one set difficulty and it’s how the developers intend players to experience it. Conversation has been thrown around how people think Dark Souls should have difficulty modes, but as someone who thought the series was very daunting before playing all them I disagree with the sentiment. Blue Point who did the Demon Souls remake thinks the same.

https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.gamesradar.com/amp/demons-souls-easier-difficulty-was-scrapped-because-it-wasnt-our-place-says-developer-bluepoint/

I encourage you to watch this video if you feel inclined to do so.

While I won’t sway you into playing Dark Souls because that decision is entirely up to you as a person if you consider getting into it down the road I strongly urge you to play with friends. It will be one of the best experiences you can have for a game and make the series less daunting.

Just started playing Mass Effect for the first time. I’m already fully in love with Garrus.

@Silvereyes

if you’re interested, this is the best explanation for the souls series ‘difficulty’. it’s not hard in the traditional sense; it just expects you to pay attention. once you’ve done one souls game, the rest aren’t nearly as hard*

*except sekiro. that’s a completely different kettle of awesome.

I just played through Watch Dogs 2 and Sniper Elite V2.

Though I prefer the vibe and the story of the first Watch Dogs, I found this one more enjoyable to play. The gameplay is more varied, giving you gadgets and more hacking choices, for example, abilities to hack vehicles and robots. It’s still easy to get caught and I wasn’t any kind of a stealth master but I got better over time. The areas are usually quite broad and give options too, it was fun sneaking around and laying traps. My all-time favorite takedown method is jumping on people from above, lol. I didn’t want to resort to shooting but often it just happened, usually I also loaded a checkpoint. But yeah, I didn’t really care about the story, in that regard the first game wins.

I didn’t play the remastered version of Sniper Elite 2, but looking at comparison videos, they’re not that different. I played on the hardest difficulty because I’ve only played 3 and 4 on the “sniper elite” difficulty as well. Well, in this game there was no “authentic” difficulty so the one I was playing on was basically the same. When I watched some videos of the lower difficulties afterwards I noticed how many helping elements I was missing. Maybe I should have chosen an easier difficulty, but seeing how I beat the game in 6 hours (don’t remember the time for SE4 but the third game took me over 16 hours) it doesn’t really matter. Even though there were more missions than in the later games, these ones were shorter and more linear. There weren’t even any optional objectives. Most of the missions had such a similar milieu that I can’t really tell them apart, they were kinda boring but I guess they reflect the war better than the locations in the later games. Most of the game wasn’t too hard but I absolutely hate the sniper enemies. On the “sniper elite” difficulty there’s no indication when someone’s about to see you so most of the time they just shoot from nowhere and kill you with two shots. They’re also accurate as hell, can do quickscoping and even seem like psychics - sometimes they’re just looking elsewhere and in a matter of a second they turn around and shoot you. Many times I had to do some peeking and when I saw where they shot from I could then try to take them down. The normal soldiers were mostly dumb though - they could forget your location as fast as the snipers could take a shot at you and then keep repeating the same couple of lines. I also hate how in some cases enemies would spawn only if you had reached a certain spot. Mostly this was a problem just with the snipers because they could appear in a place that was empty couple of second ago. The mission where you have to stop the execution was pretty bad too and I almost ran out of ammunition. I had to do the last kill before the guy got into the library with a welrod and after the second assault I also had no rifle ammo left. Not sure if there was extra ammo somewhere and I missed it though. Overall an ok game, but too linear and the locations were too similar. Probably won’t play it again.

To contribute to the dark souls difficulty discussion, dark souls isnt good because its hard. Dark souls is good because its a tightly designed arpg experience that gives you all the freedom to overcome its challenges.

I would recommend trying the games in coop with a friend as playing with someone else makes everything way easier while still providing a challenge.

I play on Series X, sorry.

It is 1080/60 though which is awesome lolol

I just started Prey again on New Game + on Nightmare. Should be a good time.

Make a throwaway comment about Dark Souls and I get three replies about it. Definetly a game that inspires alot of passion in people. I’m sure you guys are right, but I will also say that it isn’t so much that I am crap at Kingdom Hearts, as much as I am at games in general, especially third person games that do require some degree of precision. I really struggle to move the analogue sticks in the precise ways in quick timing.

I’m sure Dark Souls has its own requirements and skill threshold. I just think I doubt I would be able to meet it, and honestly, the more difficult a game is, the less fun I wind up having usually. I dunno, sure I’ll get around to it one day, be it Dark Souls or some other souls-alike. I’ve got Bloodborne from PS Plus on my PS5, and I recently got The Surge 2 from one of those Humble Bundles.

As for Kingdom Hearts 1, I think I’m done. I’m throwing in the towel. Looking at a guide to see how much is left, I’m not that far away from the end, but I’ve hit an extremely tough boss fight and I just can’t see myself getting past it, at least without some serious grinding which I just don’t have the energy to do. Think I’ll just watch the last of it on Youtube and move onto Chain of Memories, and will definetly be sticking to normal mode for the rest of the games. I feel like such a massive idiot for choosing to play on hard.

I’d watch Chain of Memories just a little advice cause it’s not a fun game to play :grimacing:

Yeah, I know that’s the one with the weird card system? Will be playing the PS2 remake the collection comes with, see how I get on with it. I don’t think it is meant to be that long is it? Then it’s the 358/2 Days movie, and then finally, Kingdom Hearts 2. Hopefully KF2 will be fun.

It is. I personally skipped from it and watched a synopsis since Chain is integral to understand KH2. The PS2 remake that is in the collection still has the card system from GBA just instead of a 2D playing field it’s 3D with free moment.

It’s around 24 Hours.

KH2 is good just as I said above it has a difficulty spike near the latter half that’s only if you don’t understand how some mechanics work since it’s different from KH1.

This is how I personally think people should go through the series.

KH1 (Play)
KH ReChain of Memories (Very Important so watch a Synopsis Video)
KH 358/2 “pronounced Three Fifty Eight By Two” (Watch the movie)
KH Recoded (Skip it’s literally a pointless story and is very boring)
KH2 (Play)
KH Birth By Sleep (Play)
KH Dream Drop Distance (Play or watch a synopsis the Drop mechanic is very frustrating so take that as you may)
KH 0.2 Birth By Sleep (Definitely Play since it sets up KH3 and isn’t that long too)
KH χ Back Cover (A movie about a mobile game that is discontinued only necessary if you care about lore)
KH3 (Play and also play the DLC if you have it)
KH Melody Of Memory (never played it since it’s just a cash grab so up to you)

Yeah, from what I’ve heard, that does sound about right with your recommendations. Shame so many entries seem to have their own problems. I mean, I will at least be trying ReChain of Memories, see how it goes. I know it is split into 2 campaigns, so who knows, may just play 1 campaign and not bother with the 2nd.

To be clear, I have been spoiled on most of the KF story, I watched SomeCallMeJohnny’s reviews on all of them from 4 years ago and just watched the story spoilers because I didn’t think I’d ever actually play any of the games. Granted, it has been a while since I’ve watched those reviews, so alot of the details are hazy, but I do know some key moments and things, like DDD introducing time travel!?

KH3 is the only game I haven’t seen any major spoilers for and I know that is when the first series arc of KH ends. So I guess in a way it is building up to that for me.

There is nothing wrong with using another piece of media to draw a comparison, it is one of the best ways to create an easy reference point with a reader. Especially since Dark Souls is a popular series that has a distinctly steep learning curve, a Gothic aesthetic design which was unique (at the time) and its infamous level of difficulty. I have no idea how Gamers became allergic to this concept, like reading a poem and getting angry at a similes.

So to get back on track I am playing Red Dead Redemption 2 again.

Just bought Sleeping Dogs. Game seems great so far, but I’m worried I’ll abandon it in middle like I do with many games I bought out of curiosity.
