What Videogame(s) Are You Playing?

Don’t know if it would interest you but I really recommend the recently released Sonic 30th anniversary comic. It takes place in the “classic” universe, using classic designs, and is overall very charming. There is also the Free Comic Book Day issue, which you can find for free on Comixology, again taking place in the “classic” universe. Some rumblings if Sega plans to do more stuff with their classic line-up, we’ll see.

If we’re talking about music, have you listened to the 30th anniversary concept? Fantastic stuff.

That’s from the Free Comic Book Day issue, you can download it for free on Comixology if you want to read the rest of it.

There are some very talented people working on Sonic’s IDW run. I’ll need to do an art dump of IDW Sonic at some point. Here are some of my favourite covers they’ve done.

Just got platinum on Marvel’s Spider-Man and Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, and I really enjoyed them.

The graphics, story, gameplay are all great, and I loved the amazing photo mode.

One thing I didn’t like was stealth. Stealth takedowns are very satisfying, but the only objective is the “eliminate all enemies.” There is vent takedown, but vents that can be accessed outside of scripted moments are very rare. The only vent I remember that can be used in the “actual” stealth was in the first mission of The Heist DLC. All that made the game feel limited and scripted.

Anyway, I will definitely play the sequel when it comes out.

I so want to get into the Sonic Comics, despite the fact that I really don’t know too much about the series itself. Honestly it’s mainly the art I’ve seen (that you often share) is what draws me, though I’m sure there’s some nice storylines within it.

Hoping to ask some family members to get it for upcoming gift-giving holidays of mine, if not I’ll get it myself if I’m impatient

Found this nice video going over the various different runs, pretty informative.

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order is a seriously underrated game. I enjoyed playing it so much. I don’t know if you’ve played Titanfall 2? It’s also by Respawn Entertainment and it’s another hidden gem. It took me far too long to check it out and I regret that. Fantastic game! I’m not into the multiplayer elements, but the campaign and story are so good.

It truly is, I hope to see one where you play as a dark side user.

Sadly have not, I know it’s a great fps that sadly was launched among two other gigant fps titles, which sealed it’s fate. I plan to buy it at some point, I’ll do it when it on sale again.

Unpopular opinion: I’d rather like to see a Star Wars game ala 1313, were we delve into the underworld of Star Wars, instead of always the Jedi/Sith thing.

I’d rather do jobs for the Hutt Cartel or the Black Sun, join a Smuggler Ring, be a Bounty Hunter or even be a Moisture Farmer or something like that.

All in good time. I imagine that the Ubisoft open world game, probably isn’t a game about a force user. I think it will lean into Bounty Hunting, especially after The success of the Mandalorian.

But personally I prefer the mystical aspects of Star Wars, but I looked forward to any kind of game set in the univers.

This might be an unpopular opinion, but the stealth was actually one of my favourite parts in these 2 Spider-Man games. It felt extremely satisfying for me to observe the routes of the NPCs and to study the environment in order to find ways to create distractions and then isolate the NPCs because it gave me the impression I was playing a Hitman game.If we are not talking only about stealth challenges, then I also liked stealth because it is a safer and more elegant method in general to clear out areas instead of simply punching your way through.

Now I must admit that I felt like the stealth was quite limited in the first game, but they fixed that in the second game by adding wall and ceiling takedowns and remote mines. However,to be honest, stealth wasn’t that bad in the first game either(as you also had the option to create “accidents” and use impact web to stick NPCs to walls from distance apart from the standard web strike and perch takedowns).

The only thing I strongly disliked was the inability to complete bases with full stealth in the first game because of the wave system, but thankfully that’s not the case for the second game .

not sure if it’s your thing, but have you tried sekiro? similar combat by all accounts and very much about “getting gut(er)”.

Good, gooooood. Join the dark side.

I think the IDW run is pretty reader friendly. Granted, it does take place in the aftermath of Sonic Forces, although really all you need to know from that game is that Eggman took over the world, captured Sonic and tortured him for a while, then Sonic escaped, and with the help of his friends, took down Eggman and his henchman of the week, Infinite, who may or may not be in Sega purgatory right now because Sega refuses Infinite to even be mentioned in the IDW run. (Rumours that Infinite may return in the upcoming Sonic Rangers, but also rumoured Sega has canned the character because he didn’t get the response Sega wanted.)

And yes, alot of returning Sonic characters from the game do show up, but to be honest, aside from Shadow who has a ton of backstory over the course of like 3 different games, (some of which maybe considered non-canon, Sega is very flip floppy over what “counts”). I think most characters have fairly simple motivations and characters, you don’t need to play the games they were respectively introduced to understand their place in the story. Especially since the first 12 issue arc has the first 8 issues softly re-introduce most characters, as well as the first newcomers, Tangle and Whisper.

I should note that right now, issue #44 of the main book is out, which just finished the current 4 issue story. Issues #45-#47 are forming a little 3 issue story, we’re getting a new mini-series, Imposter Syndrome, which will run along side the main book, and issues #45-#49 and the mini-series are all meant to lead up to the big 50th issue, which if I had to guess might be a bumper sized issue I’m hoping considering how much they are hyping it up.

I guess it depends what you want exactly. Personally, if you don’t mind just reading issues on your computer or on your phone, you could buy issues through Comixology. It’s what I do with every issue. I basically double dip because I buy the issue through them immedietly whilst also buying physical copies through a comics store but the comics store only mail me like once every 2-3 months and I don’t want to fall to spoilers.

I don’t know where in the world you are but in the UK Comixology, they are currently selling a lot of the older volumes - each volume usually containing 4 issues - at £3.19, which is like 80p an issue. If you want physical stuff, again, volume compilations exist which usually collect 4 issues. Bit more expensive since they are physical. There is also the Sonic: IDW Collection. The IDW Collection is a series of hardcover books they plan to release, which are meant to cover all the IDW continuity and arranged in recommended reading order. Only the first one is out but it collects the first 12 issues, and is a little more expensive than buying the first 3 paperback volumes that collect the same issues.

So yeah, it’s up to you. I suppose I just think that when it comes to this kind of thing, it’s perhaps easier to jump in now before even more stuff comes out to keep on top off. If you’ve got any questions feel free to tag me or PM by the way, I love the IDW book, always love to talk about it.

Whoa. Thanks for the big walkthrough of the state of things.

Yeah, I think I’ll start with IDW’s Volume 1 sometime in the near future, see where we go from there :+1:

Makes the most sense I suppose. :stuck_out_tongue: You can always read the Archie or Fleetway runs as well if you want. Due to legal issues due to them being licenced books, there basically is no way to actually properly buy them besides second hand copies, so personally I think it is OK to just look up sites that host scans of all the issues. I’ve still yet to finish the Archie run, I’ve read like 3/4 of it, need to resume it at some point, and I haven’t even touched Fleetway yet.
