Get outta here with your subjective opinion
ghost of tshushima i can get behind, its a ok open world with phenomenal visuals and broken stealth systems, but nothing more. The last of us part 1 is a rehash, of a game that is 1. not fun to play 2. boring to look at 3. annoying to listen to
I played the original last of us like 9 times so I could not disagree with you more.
I do think the remake is overpriced and doesn’t do enough to bring it up to the gameplay standards of Part 2 though.
i feel so bad for you, i could barely stomach one playtrough. i genuinely think the last of us 1 did irreversible damage to video gaming as an art form and entertainment media and should chastised for it
where from? asking for a friend.
you’ll need a dealer for the ecstasy pills but i live near a city with two shops to properly buy weed from.
I know from a trustworthy source that you can even can get nuclear warheads in one of those cities.
Not quite, the two together though and now you’ll really be broke
How so? I’d say the industry treated it like it strengthened it further than ever.
It’s just PS5 specifically. It made gaming as a Hobbie more expensive then usual
Yea because the industry doesn’t see the strengths of videogames and instead wants them to become oscarbait story games with fuck all game to speak off.
Its corporatized art to the fucking max and it disgusts me to no end that lou1 is seen as an artistic high point for the medium
Don’t totally get what you mean by “it corpratized art”.
I do agree that it kicked off a major market of story-driven games with heavy emphasis on cinematic cutscenes, acting, and setting the non-interactive story section of a game at a similar standard to the player-driven interactive sections.
They’re all really popular though so it’s probably just a you issue. Clearly people (probably casual gamers) appreciate these games that have a bit if a decreased emphasis on complex, long gameplay segments, so there’s a big market for that.
Games like God of War may have also shifted to this plane, with the reboot’s new control scheme, VA cast, and story-focused presentation, but it really evolved the original game from something a bit mindless and adolescently crude in its premise into something “epic” that’s more approchable to people who may be fans of different Gods’ Pantheons mythology.
…or something like that. Idk I haven’t played GOW.
Go browse the indie market. There’s plenty of titles these days focused more on inventive new gameplay systems and have less of a focus on cinematic storytelling.
God of War is alright, but i did not really enjoy the story, the boy is a twat and they have 0 chemistry. It was not worth scaling down the violence and bossfights to tell this lame story.
that may have been a haphazard way to phrase it, it did indeed kick off a major change in the industry which is mostly what i mean by it.
sadly, takes away what makes videogames, videogames
god of war 2018 was a downgrade, or atleast a sidegrade from the originals, made to appease this new market. The original isn’t high art by any means but it’s far preferable from the sludge the 2018 reboot has you walking through at times. Though imo its the least offensive of these types of games.
I think the giant multi million corporations with the budget and obvious talent should try and do better, as they obviously have the capability to do so. though indies have indeed knocked it out of the park and have indeed focused more on the game part.
Though this entire thing is a me problem, i dont think we should sacrifice what makes videogames unique for “”“”““cinematic storytelling””“”"
you’re living in the past, maaaaaan… you gotta expand your miiiiiind…
videogames are both video and game. Some of them are more video. Some of them are more game. they’re just embracing different styles of presentation, maaaaaan…
(So yeah I’d say the push for more of these games is good, and a true evolution of the medium – maybe even great, if it helps it get more mainstream respect)
blame metal gear solid.
Any hope a person may have that videogames will ever be taken seriously as an artform can be swiftly dashed if you spend one minute on a gaming subreddit or spend time with a capital-G Gamer.
It is cute that there are still people who think video games will be taken seriously as an artistic medium. The campaign to make games be seen as art was created by people who didn’t actually want the medium to be taken seriously by outsiders. They just wanted all of the serious people to take their personal interest in their hobby seriously.
Making them more video than game is literally going back to the past of another media form. Movies.
i dunno. i don’t think the medium matters when considering whether something is ‘art’ or not; it’s the content.
what is or isn’t ‘art’ and who decides it is not a conversation i have the stamina for.
anywayses - anyone played pathfinder? boy, that’s complicated. i feel like i’ve been studying for days just to make a character.
