It’s definitely a passion of mine. My interest in LEGO has changed from Building it to simply Collecting. That being said I don’t buy newer sets now simply due to preference and aesthetic so I limited myself to LEGO Star Wars sets between 2005-2012 with some small instances of 2003 sets.
The reason behind this is they are safe investments if I ever decided to sell them since LEGO Star Wars retains its value and will only grow in price for retired sets.
It’s something I’m very much enthusiastic about and I’ve gotten a lot of nasty comments about it since a lot of people don’t like the idea of buying retired sets that may never be built.
Somewhere around 2010 they went away. The LEGO Company simply just wanted to get away from imagery that would promote violence and is one of the reasons why plenty of LEGO Ideas never leave the proof of concept phase.
Yes, but the reasoning behind it is it doesn’t resemble real life weaponry unlike the revolver and rifles they used for Indiana Jones and the Cowboy themes
There was a brief period where they used stud shooters for LEGO Star Wars, but it was poorly received. So the attempt to get rid of them was there.
That’s interesting. Although considering how vast the Lego empire is, the idea of any kind of completionism - even a microcosm like Star Wars 2005-2012 - seems daunting. I think I’d only attempt anything like that if Lego decides to make more stuff like another Doctor Who set or, my current hope, more Sonic the Hedgehog sets.
I have very few isolated sets left, most of my stuff is in about 15 30L boxes, alot of which I basically “inherited” from one of my mum’s boyfriends. So I’d love to start sifting through it all, and start to build a Lego city. I definetly want to get some more Lego city sets, but also stock up on stuff like minifigures and certain pick a brick pieces.
Well completionism is more or less subjective for me here. I have white whale sets out there, but I won’t pony up the money simply due to how expensive a UCS Imperial Shuttle is.
I also space out my purchases and wait for a good deal, but currently I only have two sets lined up for the rest of the year then I’m gonna take a break for a bit and focus more on my other hobbies like video games.
In my view that’s a weak argument. Also the currently available pirate ship has both cannons and swords.
Man all this Lego talk makes me want to build something.
Edit: actually it’s even got a handgun in it. Lego can do what it wants, but to me it appears they are trying to have it both ways by only excluding modern era firearms.
If you’re looking for something a little more adult. The Pirates of Barracuda Bay set a a good pirate set to get, unfortunately it’s retired so it might be on the pricier side, but it’s a remake of the original Lego Pirate set. Brick Link would be the best place to order the set simply due to the prices being fair.
I had that when I was a kid! I had the blue soldiers in a ship and the red soldiers in a fort too. Or maybe red ship blue fort? I don’t remember.
Sadly as badly as I want to add legos to the list of hobbies, will never allow it. Someone in the office got me the Mando ship as a Chanukah gift last year. She agreed to build it with me and then when it was done she told me I had 4 days to throw it away or find a home for it. I had to pass it on to a friend who likes legos.
That’s when you get her the friends Lego sets. She definitely would want to keep that if she likes friends. If that does work get the office set. Everybody likes the office I think.
Fun story, my best friend and i bought a MK2 platine for the Mortal Kombat Arcade Machine we built, so we can play MK1 and 2 on the same Arcade Cabinet.
The Guy we bought it from on eBay sent my best friend an email saying that if my best friend would like to keep his collection of Video Games, he should never get married or have kids and if he does he should buy or build a house with at least one spare room to keep it there.
Now my best friend has a Kid and he had to pack all of his collection into the basement because they needed the room for the baby

Funny thing is that my friend isn’t even that much into gaming, i often think he’s more into the collecting aspect of it. He has like 1000 Games for a whole lot of different retro systems, but i dont think he has played a lot of them. But each their own i guess
I have the regular G Pro. The best mouse I have owned. When it’s worn down, I’ll buy it again. But I won’t buy the supeelight version. The 83g is light enough.
