What's New....?

Don’t know how much people are being hit by the current cost of living rises at the moment. Feel like I’m starting to feel the pinch myself. Currently work as a pizza delivery driver. Feel like the amount of milage I get to cover my deliveries is just barely covering it at the moment. Company has decided to bump up the milage by 20% for the next 2 weeks, hoping it helps, but knowing my company, whether this sticks around is very arbitary. The company likes to cut costs where it can.

And I got a notice from my heating company today. I pay a monthly amount to my heating company, the idea being you build up some credit during the Summer so that the credit goes towards paying for the Winter usage. They reckon I’ll need to double my monthly amount to be able to cover the costs for April 2022 to March 2023. They won’t force me to thankfully, but that is what they estimate. I basically can’t afford to put my heating on atall now, I just rely on a portable plug-in radiator that I put in the room I am currently using.

I am planning to move house, but currently stuck because up in Scotland, we now have a new fire alarm legislation in place. It is law to have those new fire alarms which are interlinked with each other. And one of the papers a couple weeks ago reckons have the homes in Scotland still aren’t equipped with them. And because they impact your home insurance, everyone wants them, so the supply of them keeps running out. Can’t sell the house til I am equipped with them myself. Just frustrating.

Hoping to move out by the end of Summer, hoping this supply issue doesn’t take too long to be solved. But at the current moment, definetly feeling the current rising costs.

Can you not try to sell anyway and at closing write a check to the new owner for the cost of the new fire alarm/sprinkler thingie? Or even before closing build the cost into the negotiations so you don’t pay realtor fees on it?

My real estate agent is very insistent that the new alarms have to be installed before the house can go on the market. Apparently it is a legal thing. I’ve already had to do a few bits of upkeep for the house to get it ready for sale, and thankfully I’m able to get it funded by my solicitor. (Long story.) It’s just the last thing I need to do, then all that is left is getting the house deep cleaned and then it should be able to go on the market.

Annoying really but again, I’m hoping the supply issue is solved soon. It’s obvious how much demand there is in Scotland for the new alarms.

Well best of luck. Hopefully there is more than one supplier of these things and more than one licensed installer. oh wait, you said you live in Scotland so of course there is, making something a legal requirement when there is only one company licensed to get it done is a level of corruption that can only be found in Chicago or New Jersey, someday I’ll have to tell you all about the my building and the balcony inspectors :joy:

A small update.
I guess the situation here becomes more tense every day.
There were reports about 5 missiles hit our region this morning, but with no details, saying just there were no victims luckily.
I’ve found a person who we spoke with, and agreed that we’ll be in touch tomorrow for more details.
Seems like only me and my mother will go. Nobody else wants.
I don’t know where all this will lead and I’m a bit scared of what to expect.
But seems the process of moving is now launched.
I hope if everything works out those who stay here will be safe.
But it’s their choice which I partly can’t understand

I hope you continue to stay safe with your family. I have been meaning to ask though… How old are you? If you are of military age have you considered taking up arms against the invaders? I do not mean to make you feel bad if the answer is no, but I’m jsut curious. I was 16 when 9/11 happened in my country and I decided as soon as I was old enough I would join the military. Then I followed through with that and I went to war. Freedom is worth fighting for.

You’re looking for the “What’s old”-topic.

Funny to see Red Alert 2 there. Back in the day when Russian aggression in the modern day could only be imaginable in quirky cutscenes.

I’m almost 34 but I’m unfit for military service and have absolutely no background in terms of all this stuff. So even if I would expressed a desire I would’ve been turned around and sent home.
They don’t accept any civilians which have no elementary skills or preparation.
When all this started I was involved into some volunteer work with my brother and one of our neighbours.
In a few days I think almost the half of involved were released because the hard part was over and there were no need in loads of people there.
That was all my part in all this mess so far

Another small update.
Have spoken to people which may give us a home.
Nice couple who pretty much welcome us to their place and to England in general.
But my mother started to run from one shore to another.
In terms, couple of days ago when I told that there is chance, she said like it’s okay let’s go.
But today’s morning she started saying like there is quite calm here so maybe we shouldn’t twitch and stay where we are. But after the conversation with potential hosts she ignited again.
I don’t know, I myself too 50/50 want and don’t want to go, but it’s a one-time chance which should be taken, I rekon. I’m with her here about only we both will go while everybody else staying and we won’t be calm about the rest of the family. So the debates are still ongoing. Thing is it will be hard for me go on my own if mother firmly decides to stay. I still hope things will work.
It’s good that those people give us time and don’t demand to go straight away.
Besides of this tough decision we also need to sort out other things like dealing with mother’s current workplace or planning our route to UK.
So yeah, it’s not yet a firm decision, but the process is active

Taking a bus to Izmir tomorrow morning, I’m going to spend a few days there as well.

Also I kinda look like this now, barely having slept in the past 3 days  gotta sleep in the bus at least.

get ready for a big bulge to start forming for a couple of weeks, making eating and even drinking quite an unpleasant experience. Just try and take it slow, and take your time with food and drinks.

I felt like I wanted to eat ice cream after I had a (broken) tooth extracted. Then so many weeks later I had some small tooth particles come through my healed over gum. At first it’ll itch. So you might instinctually lick the spot, or rub it with a finger… Then a small bit of grit will come out of your gum.

Then again, the Dentist had to break my tooth to get it all out. I’m not sure what all is involved with removing a wisdom tooth. If they had to break it then you will likely have some tooth particles surface.

Well I’m not actually sure either, they hadn’t grown in yet.

It’s a very common procedure. I believe that almost 90% of Americans have them removed. You’ve probably been given advice by the dentist/surgeon who performed the procedure, but you might find this NHS page on recovery useful:
