What's New....?

Got my car back from the repair shop two weeks sooner than expected!
Gonna clear out space in my garage to store it and hopefully that’ll be enough to keep car jackers from trying to steal it again.

In addition to the boiler, now the fridge freezer that came with the house has decided to die too. Just, argh. I just want things to work damn it.

I’ve often wondered: does it even count as technology if it doesn’t make things easier for you?

Hoping you can get those fixed, I feel your pain.

It was a couple years ago pre-pandemic, but our stove, oven+microwave combo, all decided to die pretty close to each other… so we had to get em all replaced.
It happened just over 10 years after we’d moved into this house, so I guess they had the same shelf life or something

Considering the age of the fridge freezer, will probably just replace it entirely. Don’t need an expensive big one or anything. But will probably take a little while to get it organised.

Pretty tired from being up all night taking care of my dog, who had been vomiting again. Either gave her too many treats or she ate some crumbs from my super hot chicken wings. Seems to be calming down and she’s been able to have a small bit of bland food and she’s finally napping now. Hate when this happens to her. Worse than a sick child, because they can at least tell you how bad they feel and what they did that might have lead to it. With pets, you just kind of have to hope.

Well, back in the emergency vet office. The vomiting passed as it normally does, but then she started breathing quick and sharp for a couple of days, becoming lethargic, and then this morning she showed no interest in eating. That has never happened with her before. The nurses say her vitals are good, but her behavior is all wrong, very dumpy right now. We’re hoping it’s just that she has a blockage keeping her from pooping because of the food we had to put her on to recover from the vomiting, and that they can relieve her of that. If not, then it’s probably something more serious, and that makes it a big question mark. Hopefully will know in a few hours.

Not looking good. She’s possibly got an infection in her spleen, but more likely she’s got anemia from some auto-immune condition, or cancer in her spleen. Both are manageable, but if it’s the former we’ll probably have to have her spleen taken out and that will take years off her life, and if it’s the latter, we’re probably gonna have to make arrangements to put her down in the near future. It can be managed either way, but it is likely that our time with her is gonna be shortened significantly. Hard times ahead.

Sorry to hear that. It’s never easy. Sending hugs :hugs: your way.

Well, some news. Poor Peach is going under for surgery to remove her spleen, which seems like it may have or be about to burst, and possibly even twisted on itself. The doctors have not been able to confirm from any X-rays, ultrasound or blood samples on what the cause is, so it’s possible that we’re still dealing with a cancer that has left her spleen and gone on to her lymph nodes, in which case there’s no hope; there could still be an infection that we’ll have to figure out after the surgery, and maybe it can be managed or not, but at least with that or the cancer option we can still bring her home and make arrangements for a few more days before saying goodbye to her; or, it could be that it’s just the spleen itself and it’s time has come, and removing it will set everything right, or as right as can be.

And all of that is assuming she survives the surgery, but she’s already fasted due to not being able to eat for the last day, and we already were informed of the care that goes into observation of dogs during surgery at this facility, including problematic dogs like bulldogs, when our dear Peggy got sick, and we’re confident that if these people can’t do it, then she never had a chance anyway. We said our goodbyes to her last night just in case she didn’t make it through the night, and she’s so miserable we’re not sure she recognized us, but this is all we can do, and it at least has a better shot than what happened to Peggy. If she doesn’t make it through, we at least fought for her. If she does, there might still be hope. Fingers crossed. :crossed_fingers:

Today was a hard day at work. As some of you might know, I work at one of the biggest news corporation in Switzerland. I’m editor in chief for the online and radio departement for eastern Switzerland. When I walked into the office this morning I learned we’ve had a ransomware attack on our company during the night. So no starting up any computers until that’s resolved. I had to organise a lot to ensure that we are still operational. Fortunately a lot of our services are web based, so the whole online crew had to work from home – that at least worked. As for the radio part it wasn’t that easy. We had to relocate to different studios, had to improvise with the music and the news. Happy to say: Everything worked fine, almost no hiccups. Planned everything for the weekend, everything prepared for monday. Really happy that everyone at the office was pretty chilled about it and it seems we’ll be working just fine during this time.

Finally some good news. Not out of the woods yet, but Peach made it through the surgery ok, her spleen was removed, the surgeon looked around and saw no obvious signs of cancer or anything else, and with the spleen now gone it’s not choking off her blood flow. Still have to make sure she stabilizes back to normal today and tomorrow, and still need to have the spleen biopsied to check for cancer or infection, but it is the gut feeling of the doctor based on everything so far that it really was just the spleen flipping over and enlarging. Either way, even if there’s something there and a bad outcome is still a week or month down the road, if she stabilizes then we can still have her at home, make arrangements, and say goodbye to her on our terms. Still staying alert for a bad turn around, but right now the odds are more in her favor than against, and this is a huge relief at last.
