Through a points/rewards program from my work - they have an employee catalog (or catalogue) where you can redeem said points for free stuff.
I wish I had checked it out before I spent close to $300 for a Switch. I think I could’ve (essentially) got one for free, or maybe some games. They offered Metroid Dread, but I already had that (too).
So what did I end up getting? 1, a little handheld ‘My Arcade’ Tetris™ game. Meh… Wasn’t really worth it. The other thing I got was a Meta Quest 3.
As of posting this I’m still waiting on Steam VR to download to my main/gaming computer. After that’s done I’ll see what or if I can play any games in a VR environment. I also downloaded the Steam app for my MQ3. I’m not sure how that’ll work yet. Not too thrilled about it connecting with my FB profile, but hopefully I won’t do something to brick the thing.
I’ll post again later with an update on how it goes and/or works… If I can do anything significant on it at all. It’s the 128GB version, but I don’t plan on having a bunch of games on it anyway.
Edit: No double post, I’ll just edit.
Apparently, I don’t have a fast enough wifi connection to stream games from Steam. But I did play BallisticNG in VR, Soundself (it’s no longer available in the Steam store, but it’s a ‘meditation’ game), Cosmic Flow (another ‘meditation’ or visual experience type of game). I also had Horror of the Deep (another game removed from Steam, I think) but I didn’t play it.
I might look into a few other types of VR games.
I said I didn’t have a fast enough connection, but the only game that required a large degree of control was BallisticNG. The control seemed okay. The VR setting wasn’t something I was used to. It places you inside the vehicle’s cockpit. I’ve always played in 3rd person. But it was very cool! There was a bit of graphical ‘fuzz’(?) if I’d turn my head to look over my shoulder and a few audio pops/crackling.
I’m not sure what I’ll do at this point about the connection speed. I mean there’s really only one game (it seems) that I’d have any interest in playing… BallisticNG. So I’ll have to see what other games I can get and install on the MQ3 for a ‘no-lag’ experience.
Edit2: They make a cable. Just ordered it from Amazon and should get it tomorrow!
