What's New....?

After almost a whole decade at my job and four years in the current position. I’m elated to announce starting in a few months I’ll be moving on to a new adventure.

For many who have interacted with me on the forum they know I work in the Amusement Park industry. More specifically within the Food and Beverage Department. To say they haven’t treated me well is an understatement. I had opportunities to travel, and learned so much. With that being said… I’ve been stuck in a position for a few years and I thought I’d be stuck there. That being said I had the opportunity to pursue something more.

Starting April 2024 I’ll be becoming an Area Supervisor in the F&B department. This will be an end of an era for me since for almost ten years I’ve focused on individual stands, catering operations, bars, and commissary. What changes for me besides the pay? To simply put it all the things I had individual responsibilities for will be one big responsibility now alongside opening and closing reports and a whole lot of paperwork.

2024 will be a promising and self fulfilling year for me so I’m very excited.

Through a points/rewards program from my work - they have an employee catalog (or catalogue) where you can redeem said points for free stuff.

I wish I had checked it out before I spent close to $300 for a Switch. I think I could’ve (essentially) got one for free, or maybe some games. They offered Metroid Dread, but I already had that (too).

So what did I end up getting? 1, a little handheld ‘My Arcade’ Tetris™ game. Meh… Wasn’t really worth it. The other thing I got was a Meta Quest 3.

As of posting this I’m still waiting on Steam VR to download to my main/gaming computer. After that’s done I’ll see what or if I can play any games in a VR environment. I also downloaded the Steam app for my MQ3. I’m not sure how that’ll work yet. Not too thrilled about it connecting with my FB profile, but hopefully I won’t do something to brick the thing. :joy:

I’ll post again later with an update on how it goes and/or works… If I can do anything significant on it at all. It’s the 128GB version, but I don’t plan on having a bunch of games on it anyway.

Edit: No double post, I’ll just edit.

Apparently, I don’t have a fast enough wifi connection to stream games from Steam. But I did play BallisticNG in VR, Soundself (it’s no longer available in the Steam store, but it’s a ‘meditation’ game), Cosmic Flow (another ‘meditation’ or visual experience type of game). I also had Horror of the Deep (another game removed from Steam, I think) but I didn’t play it.

I might look into a few other types of VR games.

I said I didn’t have a fast enough connection, but the only game that required a large degree of control was BallisticNG. The control seemed okay. The VR setting wasn’t something I was used to. It places you inside the vehicle’s cockpit. I’ve always played in 3rd person. But it was very cool! There was a bit of graphical ‘fuzz’(?) if I’d turn my head to look over my shoulder and a few audio pops/crackling.

I’m not sure what I’ll do at this point about the connection speed. I mean there’s really only one game (it seems) that I’d have any interest in playing… BallisticNG. So I’ll have to see what other games I can get and install on the MQ3 for a ‘no-lag’ experience.

Edit2: They make a cable. Just ordered it from Amazon and should get it tomorrow!

Wait, what do you mean Connection Speed?

I thought the Quest was a standalone type VR device. No need for a beefy expensive PC to play VR games, it can handle most basic ones pretty well.

I was using it to stream gameplay from my PC (on Steam), not through or by the MQ3 itself.

I don’t have a cable to connect the MQ3 to my PC directly, but that’ll change sometime tomorrow.

I will look to see what games are available for the MQ3, so I might not have to use the cable for everything.

Some paid :dollar: for a :lady_beetle: :red_car:.

I’d rather be the assman instead of a ladybug.

I loved the grapple based wrestling games when I was a kid. I played WcW/nWo all the way through WWE (or maybe WWF) No Mercy!

What kind of horror are you typically into, and what are some of your current favourites?

I could go on forever but I don’t want to overwhelm you, based on your preferences I imagine that you should find something to enjoy in any number of these.

Also if you liked Martyrs, check out the other films that are part of the French extremity movement. These are all really hardcore movies, but if you can handle Martyrs then you can handle these.

Irreversible (2002)
Antichrist (2009)
High Tension (2003)

You forgot:
Manos! The Hands of Fate
Death Bed (The Bed that Eats)
Blood Sucking Freaks

Note: These are all absolutely terrible movies that NO ONE should ever watch…

Says you old man, I think everybody should inflict Manos! on themselves at least one time in their life.

Watched that one via MST3K. :+1:

I don’t really watch horrors and am not sure how much this fits the bill for you, but The Medusa Touch (1978).

I’ve seen it so many times now! MST3k back in the 90s, Rifftrax (and Rifftrax LIVE!), and just by itself without any commentary. I practically have it memorized at this point.

And yes, I’ve been Torgo for Halloween.
