Maybe but I would’ve preferred if they kept them but made it “you have to play features Contracts”.
It just incentivizes doing a contract made to get 5 people to payphones and things like that, it doesn’t inspire any real gameplay IMO.
Totally agree. It just muddles up the Contracts with all of these “Challenge based contracts.” Wish IOI had a more elegant way of introducing “Contracts” to new players.
I really like the Hokkaido ones.
We lost Fire Extinguisher kills going from Hitman (2016) to Hitman 2. They used to be explosive accident kills like the propane tanks still are, but now they’re just knock-out devices. IOI probably changed it because the Leaderboards were dominated by players whose sole strategy was “how fast can I pick up a Fire Extinguisher and detonate it by the target?” Plus, with the plethora of fire extinguishers throughout the levels, this was a safe and boring strategy for ETs.
We also lost a Remote Breaching Charge going from Hitman (2016) to Hitman 2. We used to get two of them in the inventory slot; now we only get one.
I’m really missing the challenge packs. I hope they add them back in.
The more optimist part of me thinks that they removed them only to add them back later.
I’m not too upset over some of the escalations from Hitman 2016 being gone now. Some of them just weren’t good. Though I think they should add back some more of them that weren’t too bad to even it out a bit. Because as it stands, there are a disproportionately larger amount of escalations for Hitman 2 levels. And for the challenge packs, since most of the rewards have now been integrated into mastery and escalation/featured contracts track unlocks, I hope we’ll be getting new rewards if they do come back. Some examples to get started that I think would work well:
- Master Vampire: Vampire Magician outfit, the first unique disguise of the trilogy and the focus of the challenge pack anyway so it only makes sense to get it
- Himmapan Horror: antique sedative syringe to complete the set of 3 antique syringes
- Thriller Night: Jack-O-Lantern Suit, since the Mills Reverie will probably still have the same unlocks (wetsuit and bat shurikens) they can attach the pumpkin scarecrow to this challenge pack and then release both the escalation and this challenge pack for Halloween
Someone more creative than me can think of potential rewards for the other challenge packs.
The only thing I miss, is the explosive phone not being an accident kill since H2.
Travis from IOI has confirmed on Twitter that challenge packs won’t return in Hitman 3. IOI prefers introducing new items through other ways than challenge packs.

The explosive phone isn’t an accident kill in Hitman 2016. If a body killed through the explosive phone is found, it voids SA rating.
Is it accident in next 2 games?
No, explosive phone isn’t an accident kill, neither in H2 nor H3.
The sole accident kill from a phone is the electric phone available only in H2.
The actual challenges are still there, at least a good chunk of them, just in the actual tracks.
I really don’t care about challenge packs. I did them only to have unlocks and never wanted to replay. I only care about bonus or seasonal missions with unique targets, Elusive targets.
are all escalations from hitman 2 in 3? nothing missing?
Baring the Hawkes Bay Halloween escalation, I belive so.
Whats interesting is theres a little bit of space still in the challenge tracks to place the holiday stuff so i guess that’s going to come back unscathed. I have to admit i do think hitman 3 needs a new kind of live mission to justify the support. Like im thinking to myself and ruminating what they should add. I guess a time trial mode? Basically one level escalations but theyve got different tiers of time with a challenge each for bronze silver and gold. Not a great idea but it’s something, where the challenge packs filled a nice enough niche as filler between more interesting drops now al there is are ETs and escalations
