CARPATHIAN MOUNTAINS, Romania (Mission #6) - Location Discussion

@MrOchoa I saw that you’ve finished your first playthrough. You might want to take a look at Cakes video for an alternative ending, which you’ll like very much :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes: CARPATHIAN MOUNTAINS, Romania (Mission #6) - Location Discussion - #329 by cake941

I did not spend far too much time trying to work out the number code near the beginning or constantly dying by getting hit by the railway signs like a clumsy, shirtless idiot, you’re a liar and you have no proof.

This mission though doesn’t have much replayability, but its combat is much different from other levels. The heavy-duty and elite guards are much more durable to gunshots than other guards ( makes me remember to the ICA strike team and Praetorians in Hitman Absolution), which makes killing everyone challenge more interesting.

Me thoughts on this map (Spoiler free)

Welp, just finished this mission; sad that they committed a team to make this for the final game of the trilogy, ensuring 1/\6 of the game’s maps never has contracts, escalations, ETs, or anything that the game needs post launch to get playtime.

The train concept was not worth making a map on, particularly the way they’ve done it (Not a passenger train, full of soldiers, not luxury, almost no civillians/staff, starting locations only at back of train). Freeform Training is a much better map, as is Hawke’s Bay. I don’t even think that the map is necessarily ‘small’, the problem is it’s mind-numbingly linear.

For a minute I got my hopes up when I woke in the laboratory part and I thought “Cool, they actually threw different types of things into this map”, but nope, that and the 'staff’ area riiiiiiiight at the end were the exceptions. It was way too long of just ‘sneak past or shoot these enforcers’. Boring!

If they want to add an action mission then do it as a bonus on an existing map, don’t actually dedicate a map to a non-sandbox experience in a sandbox assassination game :S

Thank Allah the other maps all seem pretty good in their own way, this is the only poor one

EDIT: It’s not all bad though, I like that at the end you’re at least given a form of decision, which is something I’ve said for a while would be good in this game (hence I made the Choose Your Adventure mods)

Maybe if 47 was still under the effect of the poison, stumble around and have hallucinations all throughout the mission, maybe hear / see Grey either berate / praise 47 and what not then I would believe this was a more story heavy mission. As is, it’s just a normal mission that is linear. Like I said before, either IO ran out of time or ran out of good ideas.
Continuing the idea of hallucinations, it would have been such a cool idea to have Ort-Meyer show up and taunt 47, IO has the voice actor…

Sometimes your only true enemy, is yourself.

Just completed Suit Only/Silent Assassin on Master difficulty, and the map suddenly becomes a whole lot more fun. There’s probably a way to do it without any knock outs as well with careful use of distractions, and timing, which I will probably try at a later date. Except for maybe the carriage with the head ‘conductor’ guy right before the six elite heavy armoured guys? He seems to be looking straight towards the exit at all times, so you probably have to knock out/murder him.. I couldn’t give less of a shit how ‘linear’ it is, that was way more intense than any level I could remember from Absolution.

And after all that, the devs were nice enough to leave a fire axe near the entrance to the final carriage >:)

One interesting part, I think a chunk of the guards were from the ending cutscene in Dartmoor (one of them talks about an injured hand). So it felt nice killing them and getting my revenge.

I didn’t look at this at all before playing. Hopefully others did the same… because when I started the level, I traveled from room to room, until I eventually broke open the door with a crowbar to only realize that I was on a train!
Blew my mind! The music kicks in and the stun hit me! Going into this mission blind was extremely rewarding.

I agree with @EvilGeniusRo, if there were hallucinations of Grey, Diana, Ort-Meyer, old targets from the classic games, anything, that would have been awesome and would’ve added an extra-intensity to the whole thing making the pretty damn long journey to the front feel a bit cooler. Also, I wish I didn’t know it was a train before hand, because that reveal once the door opened was really cool, but I was already expecting it before hand

How long is that train lol. I have spent half an hour already. Don’t see end / start of the train.

Are you talking about the leader of the elite unit? I threw an item in front of him and hid on the side of the crate he was standing. Then I just waited until he walked past me back to his original position and sneaked to the exit.

I finally played this map and it is as expected the worst map of the trilogy for me.

Such a waste of potential, the Carpathians Mountains deserved a better map

Anyone posted any of their runs on this yet?

It is obviously the worst mission in the trilogy but I still prefer it to almost every other finale from the older games.

Except maybe for the final mission in Contracts, that is still kind of fun. But Romania was less annoying than Requiem at least.

Is this end level the worst end level in the Hitman series only topped by the end level from Absolution?

The level reminds me a lot about the movie Snowpiercer. Actually, I’m pretty sure IO must have got inspiration from that.

io makes a train level

me: not like that

O wow that Absolution ending was bad. I had forgotten. All the little mines placed around for no good reason and then you kill the guy but he’s talking to you a second later in the cut scene. Hate-worthy.

Jesus, what a mess it was. Right?

Hitman and end levels have a bad history. I think these levels are (obviously probably) developed so late that they kind of hurry up and make it easy for themselves and simplify the levels too much.

I would argue that IO can make good end levels. The end levels in Silent Assassin and Blood Money were superb.
