Elusive Target #34: THE FIXER (Year 5: February 28 - March 9)

I’ve just gotten to kill the target but now I can’t find the courier does he have a single path or is it random?

Nevermind found him and finished the mission silent assassin suit only : )

The most annoying part was like 6 times in a row a npc would randomly walk In on me while I was knocking out a waiter

I don’t think it’s random every likely the act of knocking the guy out is a trigger event.

Sometimes one didn’t walk in so i just assumed it was

I only lost my silent assassin because the guard in the camera room was enforcing me as a soldier and i was a little too close when i siekered him so he heard and turn around prior to being sick :rage:

I got caught on camera so i had to break the camera box and i didnt have a gun since i brought the sieker.

I’d say better luck next time but…

Just did the mission and can confirm the target will follow Strandberg whereever he goes, regardless of whether it is distractions or mission stories, he will even scort Claus to the bathroom if he gets sick, what a gentleman.

One thing I noticed aswell is that the target will not react to distractions, so to isolate him you have to either use emetics or distract claus first and then bump into the target until he is gone

He’ll react to hearing the flash/explosive phone ringing and will go to it, assuming he’s the only one to hear it. Otherwise he’ll send the other person to go investigate.

I also had him react to throwing a wrench when I did it too…

Did you do that before or after he met Claus? Because I used multiple thrown distractions to lure Claus away and the target was never faced by any of them, not even a question mark over his head or anything.

It’s called super guard behaviour.

The target will react to placed coins. So it’s very easy to kill him right after he meets the courier by luring him into the cafe room with the ice machine using a coin trail.

Had a bit of a play with it. Seems he’s immune to distractions after returning to the consulate while Claus is still roaming the location.

If Claus is dead/in a box, distractions work on Xander as expected.

With the knowledge that Xander is following Claus around, this ET is now pretty easy with this strat:

Still unnecessarily long, but removes any and all risk of the insta-fails.

I stopped bothering with ETs a while ago, but I decided to make an exception for this one. SASO FW with only fiber wire and a claw hammer for loadout, since I wanted to do this 2016 mission without relying on modern power creep.

Turns out this ET is in fact quite easy if you beware the instafails, but still very tedious with all the forced waiting. My final time was around 27 minutes (though it could totally be done faster).
Courier passes through an empty room with a closet inside the school. He’ll be the only one to hear a thrown distraction in there, making him easy to isolate and stash. Meanwhile for Xavier I bumped him a few times while he was following Strandberg through this small empty room near Claus’ office, so he lags behind, then strangled him and stashed in the nearby closet.

It sure was disappointing to discover that target’s final loop is literally just following the main mission target, so at first glance his main kill options are mostly the same as Claus but without mission stories.

That does make sense I guess, but still left a bad taste in my mouth, as if the whole mission boiled down in execution to a worse Gilded Cage, since the other half of it is getting a guy hiding in the school.

Funnily enough I was going to ask if triggering Strandberg’s evacuation will bring the target closer to courier’s final loop, but it seems that was already posted right above me.

But despite my dislike of this ET I still want him “preserved” in an ETA track (ideally with not restricted Deceivers) for the sake of making every possible ET playable in that mode.

And add a diamond dagger as a stabbing weapon reward unlock to this arcade.

Wait, why was he red in instinct? is that a mod?

I’d already done the mission on official, so that was recorded using Peacock.

To remove the cheese, I was standing close enough that he’d show up in white on official to make sure that the taser is safe to detonate.

I’m whatever on this being brought back. It’s not hard, just time consuming. However, it should get added to the Elusive Target Arcade so it can be accessed for console / non-modding players afterwards. That said, I think utilizing the ETA’s way of altering the missions can be to our advantage.

First step is freeform: Eliminate the fixer, get the diamonds off the shopkeeper, exit. No instant fails, just a lower score as you’d normally get.
Second step asks for no non-target eliminations, meaning you could bypass the courier and get the diamonds early, but just don’t do so lethally.
Last step is what we all know and love, but maybe throw on a 20 minute time limit as a joke nod. You could do other restrictions but it’s already notoriously hard for most players.

It would just be odd for this to be the only resurfaced ET to not have a spot in ETA.

I also think a three-parter that’s just The Congressman, then The Guru, and lastly The Deceivers would be good as well.

The idea of adding new ETAs is good.

If I were to consider an ETA that includes “The Fixer”, the optionals would be “assassination by non-accidental death” or “The body must not be hidden”.
An optional “If one of the objectives is achieved, complete the remaining objectives within 30 seconds” might also be interesting.

As for other targets to pair with the optional “assassination by non-accidental death”, it might be interesting to combine it with “The Chameleon”, who was specified as an accidental death, or “The Doctor and the Surgeon”, who was specified as a syringe.

As for other targets to pair with the optional “The body must not be hidden”,
I think it would be interesting to combine it with “The Angel of Death”, “The Chef”, or “The Bookkeeper”, who have many attendants.

As for other targets to pair with the optional “If one of the objectives is achieved, complete the remaining objectives within 30 seconds”, it might be interesting to combine it with “The Broker”, “The Entertainer”, “The Appraiser”, or “The Collector”.

Also, I would like to see the immediate failure condition for ETA’s “The Fixer” abolished, and instead the shopkeeper faints and drops the diamond before the handover takes place.

I also think a three-parter that’s just The Congressman, then The Guru, and lastly The Deceivers would be good as well.

I think an ETA for a separate “The Congressman” and a separate “The Guru” is also a nice idea.

“Non-accident kill” is not bad, although for most players it would likely mean “emetic, then stab instead of drown”.

I’m not fond of “don’t hide bodies”. There aren’t natural accident kills or places to really isolate either the target or the courier in their routes. So it seems likely it’d come down to “emetic and drown the target” for most players and “propane explosion” for many of the rest, and sedatives for the courier. Which is what many seem to do already.

If we want to shake things up, I’d rather see “no emetics” to close the easy-but-cheap strategy. :grinning:

That’s not interesting to me at all, in fact it’s the exact opposite. :grinning:
