I literally refused to spend above $1000 cause that’s the asking price for this piece.
It took months, checking eBay listings between the United States and out in China and I finally found one.
The seller sent me an offer and I wasn’t happy with the price so I sent a counter offer and they accepted it right away. I’m assuming these people finally realized actual collectors want these figures and they basically have glorified paperweights that are collecting dust.
As of now, I will be quitting Hot Toys in 2026 when Artisian Ep. 2 Obi Wan releases alongside Darth Nihilus. I’m reaching a point where I’m satisfied with what I have. It’s what I want, I’ll achieve the display I want. My only stipulation on if I was ever to get another one is if the right Legends Character was made or Ventress finally got the Hot Toys treatment.
All with the exception of two were purchased without payment plans or preorders in place. Sideshow is very flexible which realistically made getting these more obtainable.
There are people who will try to own every figure which is…. insane. My mentality is as a fan get what represents you as a fan.
The best parts of Hot Toys is after the hype and when the dust settles you can acquire something for a great price if you look. DX28 Vader went from being highly sought after with after market price being upwards of $700 to down to a more reasonable $300. I consider DX28SE Vader the perfect version of the figure just off the basis of being able to have battle damage and a clean look.
I’ll be looking into proper display cases for them, cause I wanna protect what essentially are art pieces.
A lot of misconception going about cause people think this release will soften the blow of the Sith Apprentice Darth Vader that got scalped. I don’t think so.
This is effectively the 2.0 version of the Dark Side/Light Side Anakin that released a few years back.
For better or worse I don’t know how I feel about the head sculpt. Could be the paint application for the skin tone or how it looks visibly older. Too many factors.
Obi-Wan is coming soon too a will have a sculpted version and Artisan Version.
What’s different with this figure since DX47AE released?
Head Sculpt is similar to DX47AE, but paint application focuses more on fleshy tones instead of a paler completion with darkness around the eyes. Personally prefer what was done with Sith Apprentice Vader. It looks significantly better atleast in my opinion.
I’m glad people get the opportunity to get someone Anakin related this year after the chaos that was the DX47 AE. It’s a beautiful piece and hopefully with this release people can obtain something similar.
I’ll be picking up Episode 3 Obi-wan and most likely cancel my Artisian Ep.2 Obi simply because I don’t double dip on characters.
From the screenshot, he is striking away from the Emperor and Vader is ‘blocking’ his lightsaber, but he wasn’t trying to hit the Emperor. If he had been the green lightsaber would be on the other side of Vader’s…
In the split second between when we see Luke swing and then see the two beams connect in front of the Emperor, Luke rotates his arms and wrist so that instead of coming down on top of the Emperor’s head, like it would from the position he’s in, it instead comes in to strike from his front, like a left-handed baseball bat swing. That’s the in-universe explanation. The real one, is that they just fucked up.
I always assumed he was swinging in an arc where, if he’d connected, he’d basically behead the Emperor, but the way they edited it, he was swinging to the left, away from Palpatine. If Vader hadn’t blocked him, he would have just swung an arc out into nothing… ridiculous.
